★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We celebrated our wedding anniversary here and everything from start to finish was exceptional. The staff went out of their way to make the evening feel special, welcoming us with complimentary champagne and a personalized menu with “Happy Anniversary” and the date printed on it. It was such a thoughtful touch. Our server gave incredible recommendations, and every dish was packed with flavor. My husband and I kept exchanging looks of pure satisfaction, those silent, knowing glances that confirmed we had chosen the right spot. This is hands down my new favorite restaurant in Houston, and we can’t wait to come back.
July 17 · Priscilla GomezLast night, we celebrated our anniversary with dinner at Baso—what a memorable dinner. We ordered ‘Trust the Chef’ and were not disappointed! A total of nine dishes were served—our favorites were the grilled oysters, the quail, the pork chop and the caviar, though all were delightful. Each dish was thoughtfully constructed with simple preparation yet complex flavors and each was beautifully plated. Drinks were equally delicious. The staff was attentive and took time to chat about the dishes—even the chef presented a dish that wasn’t yet on the menu. Overall, a wonderful experience!
June 02 · Gail RobersonWe did the Trust the Chef menu and OMG every single thing was delicious! Definitely recommend doing this if you want to try a variety of menu items. Reserve the kitchen counter to see the live fire cooking in action. And the wine pairings from the wine director were absolutely perfect with every dish.
August 07 · Angela PersickeFood and service were top notch, as expected for a 5 star restaurant. Highly recommend. The outside was plain. We came at our reservation time but thought we went to the wrong place. The staff there had to open the door and then call us back. The B A S O sign was vertically hung, and the color didn't stand out from the wall. This was at 5 pm. with plenty of daylight outside. Inside was dark and comfy. The kitchen is right there, so you can feel the heat from the open fire. Really nice ambiance. Walls were plain, no decorations.Anyway, awesome food. Each dish has a unique flavor. Each plate is meant to be shared. They clear our plates, knives, and silverware each time they bring out a couple of dishes. We have different people bring out the dish, and every one of them took the time to explain the specialty of how this dish was prepared. I felt like I was in one of Gordon R top chef shows. The bathroom had cotton towels, not paper nor air blower. Nice Touch!
July 14 · Q PhamHad a fantastic dinner at Baso! Opted to “trust the chef” for our first visit while sat at center of the kitchen counter and very glad we did!Everything we ate was delicious and the selection of dishes perfect - great variety and without asking hit all the dishes we’d really been interested in while eyeing the menu and several standouts we probably would have skipped if left to our own devices.Service was also really good from front to the back of house, warm, helpful, available but not overbearing. Finished off the dinner with a slice of their signature basque cheesecake and an exceptional carajillo.Only drawback is the noise level, it can get very loud but wouldn’t stop me from running back. Definitely top 5 meals we’ve had in Houston.
