Hando Introduce
Introduction / Overview
Hando is a standout culinary gem nestled in Houston's vibrant Heights neighborhood, offering a fresh and modern take on the traditional sushi experience. This Japanese restaurant is a specialized hand roll bar, a concept that focuses on serving fresh, made-to-order hand rolls (temaki) directly to the guest. This unique approach creates an intimate and engaging dining experience that is both casual and artisanal. The menu extends beyond hand rolls to include delicious small plates and a curated selection of skewers, ensuring a well-rounded meal. Hando's atmosphere is a highlight in itself. It is described as cozy, trendy, and sleek, with a bar-only setup that allows guests to watch their food and drinks being prepared right in front of them. This interactive element adds to the overall enjoyment and a sense of connection to the food. The quality of the ingredients is a point of pride, with customers consistently praising the freshness and flavor of the fish. From classic Spicy Tuna and Salmon to the rich Blue Crab, each hand roll is meticulously crafted. While some visitors have noted that the portions are on the smaller side, they also agree that the food is exceptionally fresh, flavorful, and ultimately satisfying, proving that quality triumphs over quantity. Hando has also made a name for its impressive beverage program, featuring a wide array of house cocktails, Japanese-inspired beers, and a notable sake list, all of which perfectly complement the food. For those seeking a unique and memorable dining experience that prioritizes fresh ingredients and a chill vibe, Hando is a must-visit destination in Houston.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We decided to give this a shot figuring it would be a one and done new place. I was extremely and pleasantly surprised. We will most definitely be going back!! It's a very small but cozy and clean location. As you can see in the first picture, it's very small. The only seating is what is seen in the photo and it's all at the bar while we weren't used to this. It was a nice new , and allowed us to enjoy watching the various foods and drinks be prepared. We chose a starter and a skewer to begin with. Then we both picked what is essentially their lunch deal. Neither of us really expected to get full because they only offer hand rolls and small portions. Nothing huge but surprisingly we left with happy full stomachs. The flavors were nice and clean and well balanced. The service was top-notch. The atmosphere vibes were really chill and nice and cozy. I would recommend bringing maybe one or two friends here or coming here for like a date night or lunch Definitely not for kids not handicap accessible at all if you're looking for something new or to test your pallet, maybe or expand your pallet this is definitely the place to go! The prices were also very manageable. Our lunch deals were $21 a person and the we got starter and the skewer were $7 a piece. They have a nice little selection of house, cocktails, and alcoholic drinks small selection of nonalcoholic drinks and you get complementary water.
June 09 · Nicole JohnsonThe quality of the food was very good, but the portions were on the smaller side, so you’ll need to order a few dishes to feel satisfied. I would say this spot is better suited for a light, casual occasion rather than a full meal. I did have a bit of a hard time communicating with the person taking care of me, which made the experience a little awkward. The seating area is also quite tight, so you could end up sitting just a few inches away from someone at the next table. That said, I would still recommend the sashimi here since it was fresh and well-prepared.
August 17 · Christopher TranHando is great if you’d like variety + handrolls. Their happy hour is absolutely amazing. The croquette is so crunchy and pairs well with the curry sauce. The specials they have are also great to try also. We ordered their 4 handroll sets both and really enjoyed them.
December 06 · Miki DalitHando is a handroll restaurant in Houston with two locations: one in the Heights and one near Spring Branch.I got the spicy tuna handroll, salmon handroll, toro handroll, unagi handroll, spicy scallop roll (a special that day), brussel sprouts, and ribeye skewer. The ribeye skewer comes with two skewers and were tender and juicy and seasoned well with teriyaki sauce. The handrolls were alright and could have been better in my opinion. The salmon was subpar; the chunks of salmon were a bit harder to chew and not as fresh or of nice quality at all—almost like Costco salmon. The spicy tuna handroll was the most appetizing. The brussel sprouts were also okay. It was just peeled layers of brussel sprouts with bonito flakes and kewpie. The seat spacing between each person is so tight. The man next to me kept man spreading and the woman on the other side kept bumping her arms against me, which kind of ruined the mood and made me so uncomfortable in my chair the whole time. We were packed like a can of sardines.Service was very fast and efficient, though. I got all my food in about five minutes, and they cleared the plates right after. They also give you a small bite of egg dessert at the end, which was nice.Parking spaces are very tight and limited. I had to park three blocks down on some random street.Overall, I, honestly, think there are better handroll restaurants in Houston with fresher and higher quality fish for the same prices and better seating spacing. I have been to their Spring Branch location and remembering it being better.
January 13 · Krystal LeFirst time visiting and the hand rolls were delicious. The music was a bit too eclectic and off putting in comparison to the theme. The drinks are refreshing and would definitely come back!
