Xochi Introduce
Introduction / Overview
For those in Houston seeking a truly exceptional dining experience that goes beyond the ordinary, Xochi is a destination that promises to impress. Located in the heart of downtown Houston at 1777 Walker St, Xochi is a culinary masterpiece by the acclaimed and award-winning Chef Hugo Ortega. The name "Xochi," derived from the Aztec goddess of the flowers, Xochitl, means "to bloom" or "catch fire," a fitting description for the vibrant and fiery flavors that define the restaurant's menu. Xochi is a celebration of the rich, indigenous, and complex cuisine of Oaxaca, a region in Mexico renowned for its deep culinary traditions. Unlike many traditional Mexican restaurants, Xochi takes a meticulous and artisanal approach, crafting everything from scratch. This includes their cheeses, salsas, and, most notably, a wide variety of moles. The restaurant's dedication to authenticity is evident in their use of house-made masas from various colors of corn and in-house roasted cacao beans for their unique chocolate creations.
The atmosphere at Xochi is a captivating blend of upscale, romantic, and trendy, with a cozy feel that makes every visit special. The decor pays homage to Oaxacan artistry with custom murals and handcrafted pottery, creating a sophisticated yet inviting setting. It is a place where every detail is considered, from the stunning food presentation to the impeccable service. As one satisfied customer shared, the food is "absolutely stunning" and the service is "even better." Xochi is a destination for a special evening, a place for groups to gather, and a must-visit for tourists looking to experience Houston's world-class dining scene. It is often a popular choice during Houston Restaurant Weeks, where it offers special multi-course menus, providing a perfect opportunity for both new and returning diners to explore the best of what Xochi has to offer.

Brown Convention Center, Xochi is a convenient and elegant dining option. The location is also perfect for a pre-show dinner or a post-event gathering, providing a sophisticated backdrop to any special occasion. Parking in a busy downtown area can be a challenge, but Xochi addresses this with valet parking, ensuring a smooth and stress-free arrival for all patrons. The restaurant's dedication to accessibility is also a highlight, with a wheelchair accessible entrance, parking lot, restroom, and seating, making it a welcoming and accommodating venue for everyone. What is worth choosing
Choosing Xochi for your next dining experience in Houston is a decision to embark on a truly unique and memorable culinary journey. The primary reason it is worth choosing is its unwavering commitment to authentic Oaxacan cuisine, which is rarely found at this level of quality and artistry in the United States. Chef Hugo Ortega's dedication to creating everything from scratch, including their famous moles and fresh masas, results in dishes that are complex, layered, and burst with flavor. The "Mole Tasting" is a must-try for any adventurous diner, offering a delicious exploration of different styles of this iconic Oaxacan sauce. Beyond the moles, the menu is filled with exceptional options, from the "Tlayudas" (large, fire-roasted tortillas with various toppings) to the succulent "Costillas De Borrego" (lamb chops). Customers consistently highlight the perfection of dishes like the goat tacos and seared scallops, underscoring the kitchen's mastery of both land and sea ingredients.
The atmosphere and service at Xochi also contribute significantly to its appeal. The ambiance is elegant and romantic, perfect for a special date night or a significant celebration. The staff is not just friendly but also incredibly knowledgeable, making excellent recommendations and adding a personal touch that makes you feel genuinely cared for, as highlighted by a customer who praised the service as "10/10." The bar program is another reason to choose Xochi, with an extensive list of mezcals and tequilas that invites you to explore the rich world of agave spirits. The cocktails, such as the "Houston Strong" and "Xochi Rita," are crafted with care and creativity. The restaurant's participation in city-wide events like Houston Restaurant Weeks provides a fantastic value proposition, allowing diners to enjoy a multi-course meal at a special price while also supporting a local charity. The fact that the restaurant is consistently busy and often has a wait is a testament to its popularity and quality, so making a reservation is highly recommended. For a taste of Mexico that is both deeply rooted in tradition and executed with modern sophistication, Xochi is undoubtedly one of Houston's premier dining destinations.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Absolutely stunning food in a laid-back setting. Everything mole is worth getting, but the goat tacos and the seared scallops were pretty much perfect. Great cocktails too. Special shout out to Ulises, who made the evening a surprisingly space-themed joy.

April 26 · Ana OcampoXochi is a great spot, but definitely make a reservation—it’s usually packed. The staff are very friendly and our waiter was attentive the whole time. The food took about an hour to arrive, so it’s not the place for a quick lunch, but it was worth the wait. Portions are a bit small, but everything we ordered was high quality and really delicious.
August 26 · MassimoI had a great time here. I asked the server for some recommendations for a variety of flavours and they did not disappoint. The robalo was raw striped bass served with a creamy avocado and a plantain tostada. Presentation was fantastic and the flavor was delicious. The Memel was toasted masa pancake with roasted pork and an assortment of vegetables and cheese. My mouth was so happy with every bite. The Pulpo, grilled octopus with purple potatoes and green chorizo was out of this world. The octopus was so tender and the chorizo balanced flavour in very unique ways. The cocktails and sangria were great too.
