Björk Cafe & Bistro Introduce
New York City is a melting pot of global cuisines, but few restaurants offer the unique experience and authentic flavors of the Nordic region. Björk Cafe & Bistro, a hidden gem tucked inside the Scandinavia House in Midtown, is one of those special places. This restaurant provides a genuine taste of Swedish and Scandinavian culinary traditions, offering a respite from the city's hustle and bustle with its casual, cozy, and trendy atmosphere. It's a place where you can experience the art of "fika"—the Swedish ritual of taking a coffee and pastry break with friends—or enjoy a full, hearty meal filled with classic comfort food.
The restaurant’s menu is a carefully curated selection of Scandinavian dishes, many of which are a revelation to those unfamiliar with the cuisine. From the classic Swedish meatballs served with lingonberries and mashed potatoes to more unique offerings like the open-faced sandwiches known as "Smörgåsbord" and the popular "Räkmacka" (a classic Swedish shrimp sandwich), there is a wide range of flavors to explore. Björk Cafe & Bistro also excels in its beverage program, featuring a great coffee selection for fika and a menu of cocktails, beer, and wine to accompany a full meal. With its tranquil, modern interior and a focus on both traditional and innovative dishes, Björk Cafe & Bistro is a fantastic choice for locals and tourists seeking a unique dining experience that feels both foreign and familiar.
Björk Cafe & Bistro is located at 58 Park Ave, New York, NY 10016, USA. Its prime location within the Scandinavia House in Midtown East makes it highly accessible and a convenient spot for a variety of occasions. It is just a short walk from Grand Central Terminal, a major transportation hub for numerous subway lines and the Metro-North Railroad. This makes it an ideal meeting spot for those coming from different parts of the city. While parking in Midtown can be challenging, the restaurant is surrounded by options for paid street parking. Furthermore, the restaurant is committed to accessibility for all guests, with a wheelchair-accessible entrance, restroom, and seating. The serene setting inside the Scandinavia House, away from the immediate chaos of Park Avenue, adds to the appeal, making it feel like a true escape.

What is worth choosing?
What makes Björk Cafe & Bistro truly worth choosing is its commitment to authentic Scandinavian cuisine and culture. While some reviews may be mixed, the general consensus is that the restaurant offers a unique and memorable experience, particularly for those looking to try something different. The Classics section of the menu is a perfect starting point, especially the Meatballs and the Smörgåsbord Plate, which offers a great way to sample a variety of traditional dishes. The Smörgåsbord Plate is a celebration of the Swedish buffet tradition and includes an assortment of pickled herring, gravlax, and other savory items that are a staple of Nordic cuisine. It's an excellent choice for a curious palate.
Furthermore, the cafe's desserts and coffee are a significant draw. The "fika" experience is a cherished Swedish tradition, and Björk captures it perfectly. The Cinnamon Buns and the Swedish Vanilla Waffle are highly recommended for anyone with a sweet tooth. Even for those who may have had a less-than-perfect experience with a specific dish, the overall atmosphere, friendly service, and the quality of the coffee and pastries make it a worthwhile destination. It is a place that invites you to slow down, savor the moment, and enjoy good company—a rarity in a city that is always in a hurry. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Unique selection of Scandinavian dishes with delicious flavors! There were tons of vegan options, and my potato waffle was soft with perfectly roasted vegetables and ended with a chocolate truffle that was not too sweet, after visiting Scandinavian house this was a perfect treat to end the experience!
August 09 · Olivia PangI ordered 3 side dishes as I was going down to Midsummer celebration and was expecting to eat there. $14 wild mushrooms bowl was the absolute worst I have ever eaten. Tasted just of lots of salt, not even a hint of mushroom. Jansons Temptation was not much better. $9 for about 3 bites and it was a far cry from the real deal. I told the waiter when he asked me how everything was, that they should NOT serve the mushrooms to anyone as I don’t wish people to think this is what Swedish/Scandinavian food is like. I asked another diner if what she had tasted OK and she said her Herring and gravlax were both good.
June 21 · Catarina SpoveWonderful food in a beautiful, a little IKEA-like setting. Mimosas (rhubarb and lingonberry) were pleasant, potato waffle with gravlax flavorful and not heavy on the stomach, räkmacka (toast with mixed greens, boiled egg and cold water shrimp) delicious and refreshing. Will definitely try the desserts next time.
March 16 · Olga EgorovaDelicious food and drinks. Great ambience and it wasn’t too loud to have conversations. Tables were a little close to each other. Ordered a dish of fresh herrings and potatoes, it was delicious!
August 15 · Nicholas TAbsolutely delightful experience at Bjork for lunch. My meal was fresh and the flavors were wonderful. The presentation is beautiful. Tea and dessert was also fabulous. Service is friendly and excellent. Super.
