Chard Introduce
In the vibrant and diverse culinary landscape of New York City, finding a restaurant that stands out can be a challenge. But tucked away at the heart of the East Village is Chard, a casual and welcoming spot that offers a fresh take on modern Asian cuisine. Chard isn't just about traditional dishes; it's a place that embraces unique flavor combinations and offers a menu designed for the city's fast-paced lifestyle. Whether you're looking for a quick and satisfying lunch or a relaxed dinner, this restaurant provides a comfortable setting and a menu that’s both familiar and exciting. It's an ideal spot for those who appreciate innovative comfort food with an Asian twist, perfect for a solo meal or a casual gathering with friends.

The menu, while concise, offers a mix of small plates and larger dishes that are perfect for sharing or enjoying on your own. It’s a place that’s popular for both lunch and dinner, a testament to its versatility. One of the key aspects that patrons appreciate is the focus on comfort food, which means you'll find dishes that are both hearty and satisfying. The restaurant's goal seems to be to provide a decent, no-fuss meal that hits the spot when you're craving something with bold flavors.
While the overall experience is positive, it’s worth noting that Chard, like any new establishment, is still in the process of refining its menu and offerings. Customer feedback points to a menu that can be "hit or miss," but with a clear indication that "the flavors are there!" For instance, the chicken biryani is described as "very good," while the api api burger, although tasty, had a "pretty tough" texture. These candid reviews highlight the restaurant's potential and its commitment to a unique flavor profile, even as it works on the finer details of its dishes.
One of the more divisive items is the "singlish fries," which a customer felt were overpriced for a simple side. However, the same reviewer praised the chicken sandwich as "juicy and solid" and the salted egg aioli as "pretty phenomenal." This kind of feedback provides a valuable insight into the evolving nature of the menu, and it suggests that Chard is a place worth returning to, as it continues to grow and adapt. The delicious white pepper soup is another item mentioned, noted for its rich flavor, though it could be a bit salty for some. This mix of hits and misses is part of the experience of dining at a new and experimental eatery, and it's clear that the restaurant is on the right track, with a solid foundation of great flavors to build upon.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Juicy and solid chicken sandwich. Noodles were okay, nothing spectacular, although proportions seems off a bit. The amount of noodles seemed to overwhelm the other elements which were more sparse. Fries were the perfect balance of crisp and potato, didnt love the spicy mayo but the salted egg aioli was pretty phenomenal. The shrimp chips definitely something to pass on. White pepper soup was delicious but salty. Good for a quick and decent meal and would probably go back to try something else but didn’t love it.
May 21 · Alison LeeWe got takeout from Chard soon after it opened. The menu is small and dishes are hit or miss. The chicken biryani was very good and the api api burger tasted good but the texture was pretty tough. Overall, my main frustration was with the singlish fries (pictured), which were basically a pile of fries that came with a side of dipping sauce, but costed $10. For that price, we expected more. I’m excited to see this restaurant grow and adapt its menu, though, because the flavors are there! It just needs some iterating.
June 13 · Tay JacobeCozy spot with an excellent menu of tasty goodies from across Southeast Asia! Perfect for a quick bite/snack alone or with a companion, or get takeout to enjoy at a nearby park. Friendly team too!
April 13 · Sean LiuTeeny tiny counter with south east Asian eats from the folks behind Laut, barely 2 stools, so probably best for takeout. Visited during soft-open, the staff was very friendly and chatty. Got the Api Api burger, nicely fried chicken with some pickle and pineapple, but they forgot the shrimp chips. Sounds like they are planning to open a tiny speakeasy upstairs too.
February 26 · Karn Seth4.5 stars rounded up. Good, flavorful food of a not so common cuisine in NYC. Definitely try it if you live or work in the area.
