What is Worth Choosing at Chinatown Snacks
When deciding what to get at Chinatown Snacks, you are choosing to support a genuine, local business with a big heart and a creative menu. The most valuable aspect of this spot is its unwavering commitment to providing a unique and comforting experience. While one review expresses that the Spam and Egg sando may not be a high-end Japanese-style sando, it acknowledges the food is "not bad" and, most importantly, highlights that the "owner was super nice and it was sweet to see his mom helping out." This emotional connection and sense of community are what make Chinatown Snacks a truly special place and worth choosing over a faceless chain. The food is designed to be a satisfying and quick comfort meal, not a gourmet, over-the-top experience. The onigiri, as one local parent points out, is a favorite that truly resonates with the neighborhood. The variety of hot dogs and sandos means there is always something new to try, and the affordable price point makes it an accessible treat for anyone. Ultimately, what is worth choosing is the entire experience: the friendly service, the genuine family atmosphere, the community-focused ethos, and the unique food that is a perfect representation of the Lower East Side's diverse and creative spirit. It's the kind of place that becomes part of your regular routine and a fond memory, not just another meal you had on a whim.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I really wanted to love this spot and support a local business. The owner was super nice and it was sweet to see his mom helping out. That said, the $8 spam and egg sando wasn’t worth it for me. I was expecting something closer to a Japanese sando like in the photos online, but what I got was just a potato hotdog bun with Spam, scrambled eggs, and a little mayo. Not bad, but definitely not worth $8. You can definitely make it at home.🙂
August 22 · Miel Rubenwe love this neighborhood gem and stop by whenever we get a snack attack and want some realness. This is what the kids in the neighborhood grew up on. Our son loves the onigiri.
May 02 · Jean Bae SakaiGo support this local business!! I had such a great experience. The staff, food and atmosphere are all wonderful. The interior is really unique, playing on the classic food cart. The owner and staff are really easy to talk to and very knowledgeable on the menu. Hands down, the best spicy tuna onigiri I have ever had 🤤. The egg salad tastes very authentic to what I had in Tokyo. Don’t forget the bubble tea! Very tasty and the perfect amount of sweetness. I will definitely be coming back asap!
