Forsythia NYC Introduce
In a city where culinary trends come and go, some restaurants stand out by focusing on a timeless and elegant approach to a classic cuisine. Forsythia NYC, a charming Italian restaurant nestled in the Lower East Side, does just that. This establishment is more than just a place to eat; it's a thoughtful dining experience that transports you to a cozy Roman trattoria. Specializing in handmade pasta and seasonal Italian dishes, Forsythia is a testament to the idea that meticulous care and a tight, focused menu can result in something truly special. For New Yorkers looking for a romantic evening or a sophisticated yet relaxed meal, Forsythia offers an atmosphere that is both "stylish without trying too hard" and deeply inviting.
The moment you step inside, you are greeted by an atmosphere that is both intimate and refined. The soft lighting and polished yet relaxed service create a feeling of ease, making you feel "taken care of" without any pretense. The ambiance is perfect for a quiet date night, a small gathering, or a comfortable solo dinner. It's the kind of place where every detail is considered, from the soft focaccia that arrives at your table to the careful presentation of each dish. This attention to detail is what gives the dining experience a "thoughtful elegance." The restaurant’s commitment to providing an authentic and warm environment, reminiscent of a Roman home, is a core part of its identity and a major reason for its popularity among those in the know.
Forsythia’s menu is a celebration of Italian craft, with a strong emphasis on handmade pasta. Unlike places that treat pasta as a mere commodity, here it is a "craft." The dishes are a clear reflection of this dedication, with each plate demonstrating a "surgical precision" in its execution. From the moment you begin your meal with the house-baked focaccia, which is "soft enough to tear with your hands," you can taste the quality and care. The offerings, while not extensive, are carefully curated so that "every dish lands." This focused approach ensures that each item on the menu is a highlight in its own right, from the delicate crunch of pistachios in a salad to the perfectly executed pockets of slow-braised short rib in the agnolotti. It's a menu that promises and delivers a truly elevated take on classic Italian comfort food.
The entire dining experience at Forsythia is designed to be memorable, from start to finish. The drinks program is as meticulously curated as the food, with a "great cocktails" list and a "great wine list" that celebrates Italian wines, aperitivi, and amari. The staff is knowledgeable and can expertly guide you through the selections, enhancing your meal with the perfect pairing. While some have found the prices to be on the higher side, the consensus among many is that the quality and experience are well worth it. This restaurant has cultivated a reputation as a place where you can find "pasta at an A+ level," and where every dish, from the savory to the sweet, is executed with a level of care that is both impressive and delicious. It is a destination for those who appreciate the finer things in Italian cuisine and are willing to pay for a truly exceptional experience.

The suppli, which are described as being "arancini but not quite arancini, with cacio e pepe risotto," are a fantastic start to the meal, offering a crispy and flavorful introduction. The pesce fritto is another excellent choice, providing a light and crispy alternative. And of course, the complimentary "house focaccia" is a testament to the restaurant's dedication to quality, so be sure to enjoy it and soak up every last drop of olive oil. For dessert, the honey olive oil cake is a work of art that is as memorable in presentation as it is in flavor.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1There’s a thoughtful elegance to the dining experience here. Stylish without trying too hard. The menu is tight, but every dish lands. Handmade pastas are treated as a craft, not a commodity. Lighting is soft, details are considered, and the service is polished yet relaxed, making you feel at ease while still taken care of.The meal begins with house focaccia. Soft enough to tear with your hands, warm enough that you’ll soak up every last drop of olive oil. From there, the misticanza salad offers simple greens elevated by the delicate crunch of pistachios. Then comes the suppli, arancini but not quite arancini, with cacio e pepe risotto. Squash blossoms arrive crisp and golden, warm with ricotta, balanced by a bright salsa rossa. The agnolotti are perfect pockets of slow-braised short rib. It’s pasta at an A+ level, topped and brightened by fresh chives. For dessert, the honey olive oil cake arrives looking like a small work of art. The cake itself is moist, fragrant, and surprisingly light. Equal parts presentation and flavor, memorable in both. Everything is executed at Forsythia with surgical precision. This is a restaurant where meticulous care is found in every plate.
August 21 · yousefFood was okay, not great (focaccia and salad was delicious. Pasta and secondi was not a personal favourite). However the bill included a 22% tip and then the machine asked for an additional tip. Crazy. It came to $300 for two people but I dont think the food lived up to $150 per head and the included tip of 22% did not feel right.
August 26 · Younjae DohMy friend and I visited Forsythia to catch up after a few months of not seeing each other. We were blown away by the service. All wait staff were so kind, funny, smiley and had great recommendations for our price range. We both got the 4 course prix fixe meal and everything was amazing. For our secondi we had a sort of lamb stew/curry situation and I swear I was going to lick the bowl clean. (But decorum so I resisted) Every course was spaced out so well, we had time to enjoy the wine that was recommended to us and truly catch up. The ambiance of the restaurant was very homey and chic.I would bring a date that I really like, do a double date, or dinner with the parents here.
June 18 · Amarjot BangaPro tip: would always choose the bar seats (only 6) over any of the tables. We tried a few pastas and I think the agnolotti is the best by far.The drinks were great, our server / bartender Manny was very good, great drinks and super chill. We could see the kitchen and the chef / sous chef was taking every order to make sure was impeccable. This is at the top of our list now for Italian in the city.
July 04 · G. R.Absolutely loved Forsythia for a date night!Gorgeously designed menu.Great service - attentive, knowledgeable and kind. The focaccia is delicious - recommend the honey butter, olive oil & ricotta to accompany. We split the beet salad and arancini - only call out was the prosciutto on the beet salad was “fried / crispy” vs fresh. For pastas we ordered the lasagna which is a MUST order - perfectly crisp, and the agnolotti short rib pasta. I did not love the agnolotti - would try a different pasta next time. For dessert we had the stracciatella gelato - so yummy and perfect palate cleanser. Must order. The vibe of the restaurant was so cute - brick walls, intimate, warm, inviting. Even the candle in the bathroom smelled like a wood cabin campfire - invoking a comforting, home-like atmosphere.
