Location and Accessibility
Golden Unicorn is conveniently located at 18 E Broadway, New York, NY 10002, USA. Situated in the heart of Chinatown, this location is easily accessible from various parts of Manhattan and the outer boroughs. Its proximity to major subway lines, including the F, B, D, N, Q, and R trains, makes getting there straightforward for anyone using public transportation. The area is a hub of activity, with numerous shops and sights to explore before or after your meal. While street parking is available, it is often limited and subject to paid meters, so many locals and visitors opt for public transit or a rideshare service to avoid the hassle.
The venue itself is a multi-story building, and while it offers a wheelchair-accessible entrance and seating, the bustling nature of the restaurant, particularly on weekends, means it can get very crowded. The prime location on East Broadway places it at the center of the neighborhood's action, offering a genuine New York Chinatown experience from the moment you step outside. It's an ideal spot for those who want to immerse themselves in the local culture, with a backdrop of lively street life. The building is a well-known landmark in the area, making it easy to find even for first-time visitors.

What is Worth Choosing
Golden Unicorn is a destination worth choosing for its authentic, chaotic, and truly New York experience. While it may not be the quietest or most serene spot, its energy is a testament to its popularity and the quality of its food. The dim sum cart service alone is a reason to visit; it’s a fun, old-fashioned way of dining that provides a sense of discovery and tradition that many modern restaurants lack. It is a genuine experience that reminds you of the city's rich cultural history. The menu, particularly the dim sum selection, offers a wide variety of choices, from classics like steamed shrimp dumplings and pork shumai to more unique items, catering to all tastes. While some dishes may not always be hot off the press due to the cart service, the overall quality and variety are commendable.
Beyond the food, Golden Unicorn's value as a special events venue is unparalleled in the area. The ability to host large groups and provide a memorable banquet experience is a major draw for families and organizations looking to celebrate significant milestones. The sheer size of the space and the staff’s experience with handling large parties makes it a reliable option for weddings, birthdays, and corporate functions. The restaurant's reputation is built on its capability to serve a large crowd with efficiency and a sense of occasion.
While the service has been noted as "businesslike" and the environment can be loud, this is part of the authentic, no-frills Chinese restaurant charm. It’s not about overly formal dining, but about getting good food quickly and efficiently. If you come with the right expectations—that the experience is about the food, the crowd, and the tradition—Golden Unicorn will not disappoint. It's a place that captures the essence of Chinatown: bustling, a little overwhelming, and full of life. It’s an ideal choice for anyone looking for a high-energy meal, a taste of authentic dim sum, or a large-scale venue for their special day, all in the heart of one of New York's most iconic neighborhoods.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Golden Unicorn is very mediocre. And super expensive. I used the Google reviews to pick the restaurant, but I don't agree this restaurant deserves 4 stars. There are tons of better Dim Sum spots in Chinatown. The room is super loud and the environment is chaotic. Definitely not a spot to chill for lunch. The food was plain and not tasty. Pretty much zero service- you have to raise your hand to get any server's attention. The other tables were literally screaming at the servers. The price is outrageous for Chinatown. I would never recommend this restaurant to others.
August 03 · Edward BradyGolden Unicorn is one of the few restaurants still doing cart service for dim sum. I'll be honest as a non-Chinese Asian person, I usually avoid these kind of places because I feel a little bit at the mercy of the cart ladies. It's exactly this way here, but it does make it fun. And the experience is more about the fun than the food. The dim sum is ok. Not super hot sometimes, but it happens...it's getting wheeled around the dining room. My usual faves at dim sum are basic - har gow (we did have a pretty good shrimp dumpling, but not sure if it was har gow), sui mai (solid) and turnip cake (not very good - not fried enough so lacked the crispy end bits. The service is what you expect and I don't mind it, but if you're unsure...service is pretty businesslike without a lot of niceties. There are better dim sum restaurants around, but still fun. If you're going for food...I would head to Sunset Park or Flushing.
March 22 · Lisa WilliamsOne thing I like about Golden Unicorn is how reliable it is. I mean, I've been coming here occasionally for 15+ years, and I never had an experience that was less than good. This bi-level Chinatown classic is located in the less touristic side of Chinatown east of Bowery. Because of that, lines here may be less crazy than at other dim sum places. It doesn't mean that there won't be a line, but if you arrive here no later than 12 noon your chances of scoring a table in a reasonable timeframe are higher than at other places. On a recent visit on a Saturday we arrived at 12 noon and our party of 3 was seated immediatelyAs always, part of the fun of dim sum is ordering like there's no tomorrow and sampling as many different things as your stomach can handle. All the dim sum dishes were delicious. The only dish I did not particularly like were the xiao long bao/soup dumplings; then again, maybe this is not a dish you necessary order at a dim sum place.Being on the fancier side of dim sum, prices are higher than at other dim sum places, but still very affordable.Unlike most dim sum restaurants, dim sum here is also served at dinner, although I've only been here for lunch.
March 21 · Matteo RuggiuLove the banquet style dining room with pushcarts constantly rolling around. The steamed bean curd skin roll was one of my favorites, as was the carrot cake and fried taro puffs. Pig buns were a bit of a let down but they’re good for the gram. Full party needed to be seated.
April 27 · Rovik RobertThe restaurant decor was elegant and traditional. There were cart services, which was so cool, and there was so much to try. We had to be mindful, not to eat too much all at once. I liked the egg custard, which was soft and lightly sweet. The mushroom and tufu dish were unbelievably savoury.
