KEI (Izakaya and Ramen) Introduce
In the heart of Chelsea, where trendy meets traditional, you'll find KEI Izakaya and Ramen, a vibrant and popular dining spot that has quickly become a local favorite. This isn't your average Japanese restaurant; it's a dynamic two-in-one experience that combines the casual, shared-plate style of an izakaya with the soul-soothing comfort of a top-tier ramen shop. The atmosphere is a perfect blend of cozy and trendy, making it an ideal destination for a variety of occasions, from a spontaneous solo dinner to a lively outing with a group of friends. The energy inside is palpable, with a bustling bar and the tantalizing aroma of expertly prepared Japanese comfort food filling the air.
KEI stands out for its commitment to flavor and quality. The menu is a carefully curated selection of Japanese staples, executed with a modern and thoughtful touch. Patrons rave about the deliciously seasoned broths of their ramen, a highlight that sets it apart from many other places in the city. The tonkotsu ramen, in particular, is a fan favorite, praised for its rich, creamy broth that is both filling and satisfying. Beyond the ramen, the kitchen excels at a wide range of dishes, from crispy chicken and pork katsu sandos to a variety of small plates and appetizers like takoyaki and crab croquettes. The inclusion of extensive vegan options, such as the Vegan Miso Ramen and Vegan Matcha Cheesecake, ensures that there is something for everyone, regardless of dietary preferences.
What truly elevates KEI is its dual concept. While it excels as a restaurant, it also houses a hidden gem: the Mangetsu Speakeasy. This "bi-concept" approach allows guests to transition seamlessly from a delicious dinner to a sophisticated night out without ever leaving the venue. The speakeasy adds an element of exclusivity and adventure, offering a different vibe and an impressive cocktail menu that complements the izakaya's offerings. This unique combination makes KEI a destination for both food lovers and cocktail enthusiasts, creating a truly memorable experience that is hard to find elsewhere in the city. The friendly and attentive staff are also a major part of the experience, often going above and beyond to make sure guests feel welcomed and cared for.
KEI Izakaya and Ramen is conveniently located at 193 7th Ave, New York, NY 10011, USA. This address places it directly in the heart of Chelsea, a neighborhood renowned for its energetic atmosphere and easy access to other parts of Manhattan. The restaurant's location on 7th Avenue, a major artery, makes it a simple and straightforward destination to find.
Public transportation is the most efficient way to get to KEI. The restaurant is just a short walk from several key subway stations. The 1 and 2 subway lines have a station at 7th Avenue and 19th Street, placing you just steps from the restaurant. Additionally, the F and M lines at 14th Street and 6th Avenue, and the C and E lines at 23rd Street and 8th Avenue are all within a reasonable walking distance. This network of nearby subway lines ensures that KEI is easily accessible from almost anywhere in Manhattan and from many parts of Brooklyn and Queens as well.
While paid street parking is available, as is common in New York City, it can be limited and challenging to find, so public transit is the recommended method of travel. The neighborhood is very walkable and lively, making it a great place to stroll around before or after your meal. The restaurant also offers a "free parking lot," which is a rare and highly convenient amenity in Manhattan, although it's worth checking with the restaurant for availability and specific details on where this is located, as it may be a more recent offering.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Me and my friend stopped by on a Saturday for an early dinner. We made a reservation 30 min before easily on Resy.Prices are on the mid range ($15-25 for dishes) but the food is fantastic. I’ve been to many ramen places, but I’ve learned that large portions are not always a good thing. I’ve had bland ramen before.Kei izakaya is not bland at all. They have excellent, attentive staff thaf make sure your water is always filled. The tonkotsu ramen looks small but is really filling- and the highlight is the deliciously seasoned veggies and tasty, not overwhelming chashu that is sooo good. Thank god, I was starting to feel like NYC ramen is mid at best.Holy cow, I will be returning. Thank you KEI Izakaya! They gave us complimentary dessert for rating them. The seasonal dessert is a matcha crumble that’s not too sweet, and not too bitter. Thank you Kei!Bathrooms are also clean. We came around 5:30 pm for dinner, but try to come before 6:30 pm on Saturday - that’s when it gets busy.Update: holy shit, there’s a speakeasy behind the bar. And it’s fire. Really affordable for in the city, love the vibe, and the City Pop Mocktail was savory and sweet. The pickled cabbage itself was mild, but the seasonings and picled carrots it came with were very flavorful!Thank you to the server who told us about it 🩷
July 12 · ShionkazooFresh delish food from friendly restaurateurs! From the same wonderful owners as Glur (Thai cuisine) comes this flavorful Japanese comfort food spot. I got takeout but next time I’ll be back to enjoy the hospitality and ambiance of dining in. My chicken sando was crispy and well balanced and the vegan curry was very hearty. Try this place- you will be glad you did!
June 24 · Marissa HouMy friends and I stopped by for their lunch set menu, and it turned out to be one of the most flavorful and unique meals I’ve had in a while! The portions were generous, and the variety of sides let you switch up the flavor with every bite. The pork gyoza? Perfectly plump, juicy, and had that crisp golden bottom that makes every bite irresistible.Easily a 10/10 experience—already counting down the days until I’m back to try more!Follow @blaze_eatsnyc for more food finds and flavor-packed reviews!
June 28 · blazine lopolitoSuper flavorful food with great service and really nice vibes. The karaage was super flavorful and crispy, yakitori very juicy, and black garlic ramen had great savory depth. The chicken was some of the best we've had outside of japan. Impressed by the quality of everything and enjoyed the jazzy music :) Also absolutely loved the matcha cheesecake--light but the matcha flavor still shines through.
August 03 · Carolyn LuThe food is so good you have to try their curry this one is my favorite, and they are also have a vegan option which is rarely to find in New York, you have to try the calculate vegan. This one is the best vegan ramming in New York in my opinion. The staff is really nice and config atmosphere 10 out of 10.
