Located conveniently in the bustling Polaris area, Kura offers a unique blend of traditional Japanese cuisine with cutting-edge technology, making every meal an engaging adventure. This article will delve into what makes Kura Revolving Sushi Bar a popular choice for local users in the Ohio region, from its distinctive service model to its diverse menu.
Kura Revolving Sushi Bar is part of a globally recognized chain, pioneering the "kaitenzushi" or revolving sushi concept. Since its founding in Japan in 1977, Kura Sushi has expanded significantly, bringing its unique "eater-tainment" philosophy to the United States. Their core promise revolves around providing authentic Japanese dishes using premium ingredients, all delivered with an element of fun and interactivity. For Ohioans, this translates into a refreshing alternative to traditional sushi restaurants, offering a dynamic and often surprising dining experience.
What truly sets Kura apart is its seamless integration of technology into the dining process. Imagine fresh sushi plates gliding past your table on a conveyor belt, allowing you to pick and choose as you please. Beyond the visual spectacle, touchscreens enable custom orders, and even robot servers deliver drinks directly to your table. This blend of quality food with an entertaining atmosphere makes Kura Revolving Sushi Bar a destination that caters to a wide range of diners, from seasoned sushi enthusiasts to families looking for a memorable outing. Their commitment to "muten," or "nothing added," also means their food is prepared without artificial sweeteners, seasonings, preservatives, or colorings, aligning with a growing local preference for healthier, more natural options.
Kura Revolving Sushi Bar is conveniently located at 8833 Lyra Dr, Columbus, OH 43240, USA. This address places it just outside the prominent Polaris Fashion Place, a major shopping, dining, and entertainment district in northern Columbus. For residents across Central Ohio, including those in nearby communities like Westerville, Dublin, and Worthington, accessing Kura is relatively straightforward.
The restaurant's proximity to major roadways, including Interstate 71 and Polaris Parkway, ensures excellent vehicular accessibility. There is ample parking available in the vicinity, as it's part of a larger commercial development. While the area can be busy, especially during peak dining hours or weekends, the design of the Polaris retail hub generally accommodates a high volume of traffic. For those utilizing public transportation, various COTA bus routes serve the Polaris Parkway area, making Kura accessible to a broader segment of the Columbus population.
Being situated in such a vibrant and accessible location is a significant advantage for Kura. It means that whether you're coming for a quick lunch, a family dinner after a day of shopping, or a dedicated sushi outing, reaching the restaurant is convenient. The area's dynamic nature also contributes to the overall lively atmosphere surrounding the dining experience.
- Revolving Sushi Belt Dining: The signature service, where a continuous stream of fresh sushi plates rotates past tables, allowing diners to select items as they please. Each plate is typically priced individually (around $3.65 per plate as of recent data), allowing for flexible spending.
- Touchscreen Ordering: Guests can order specific dishes not on the conveyor belt, including hot items like ramen, tempura, and custom sushi rolls, directly from a touchscreen at their table. These orders are often delivered via an express top conveyor belt.
- Robot Drink Delivery: A unique and entertaining feature where robotic servers deliver beverages to tables, adding to the interactive dining experience.
- Takeout/Pickup: Customers can place orders for pickup, either online through the Kura Sushi website or via third-party delivery platforms.
- Delivery Service: Available through popular food delivery apps, bringing Kura's fresh sushi and Japanese dishes directly to customers' homes.
- Bikkura Pon Prize System: An interactive game where depositing a certain number of empty plates (typically 15) into a slot at the table triggers a short animation on the touchscreen and a chance to win a small prize from a gachapon machine.
- Wide Menu Variety: Beyond sushi and sashimi, the menu includes sides (e.g., gyoza, edamame), soup and noodle dishes (e.g., ramen, udon), desserts (e.g., mochi, custard tarts), and a range of beverages.
- "Muten" Philosophy: A commitment to serving food free of artificial sweeteners, seasonings, preservatives, and colorings.
- Interactive Dining Experience: The combination of the revolving sushi belt, touchscreen ordering, and robot drink delivery creates a highly engaging and entertaining atmosphere that appeals to all ages.
- Freshness and Quality: Kura employs patented technologies like the "Mr. Fresh™" ventilated sushi lid and plate-tracking systems to ensure the freshness and quality of the sushi on the conveyor belt.
- Variety of Sushi and Japanese Dishes: Offers a broad selection of sushi, including traditional nigiri and rolls, as well as unique creations, alongside other popular Japanese items like ramen, tempura, and desserts.
- Affordable Plate Pricing: Sushi plates on the conveyor belt are generally priced uniformly (e.g., $3.65 per plate), making it easy for diners to manage their budget while sampling a wide array of options.
- Family-Friendly Environment: The interactive games (Bikkura Pon) and the novelty of the conveyor belt and robots make it a popular and fun destination for families with children.
- Efficient Service: The automated systems contribute to a relatively quick turnaround time for meals, especially for items taken directly from the belt or ordered via touchscreen.
- Authentic Japanese Cuisine: Despite the modern delivery system, Kura maintains a focus on authentic Japanese flavors and preparation, adhering to their "muten" philosophy.

Kura Revolving Sushi Bar in Columbus is an excellent fit for locals across the Ohio region, offering a distinct and engaging dining experience that goes beyond simply eating out. Its suitability stems from several key factors that resonate with the preferences of contemporary diners in our community.
Firstly, the innovative "revolving sushi" concept provides a fun and interactive way to enjoy Japanese cuisine. For families with children, or groups of friends looking for an entertaining meal, the sight of fresh sushi plates gliding by, the excitement of custom orders arriving via express belt, and the novelty of robot drink delivery create a memorable outing. This "eater-tainment" factor makes it more than just a restaurant; it's an experience that encourages repeat visits. Locals can enjoy a diverse range of sushi and other Japanese dishes, all while being entertained by the unique technological elements.
Secondly, the pricing structure, with most sushi plates at a set affordable price, allows for a flexible and customizable meal. This "pay by the plate" system empowers diners to sample a wide variety of sushi without committing to large, expensive rolls, making it easy to discover new favorites. For those who want more control or specific items, the touchscreen ordering system for made-to-order dishes, hot items, and desserts ensures that all preferences are met, offering a significant advantage over all-you-can-eat buffets where quality can sometimes be inconsistent.
Furthermore, the location in the Polaris area ensures convenient accessibility for a large segment of the Ohio population. Its proximity to major highways and ample parking means that locals from various parts of Columbus and its surrounding suburbs can easily reach Kura. The commitment to fresh, quality ingredients under the "muten" philosophy also appeals to health-conscious diners who prioritize natural and healthy food options.
While some reviews suggest that the high volume can sometimes affect the speed of preparation for items on the belt, the overall experience of variety, novelty, and the ability to customize one's meal far outweighs these minor points for many. Kura Revolving Sushi Bar truly offers a dynamic, fresh, and engaging approach to Japanese dining that is perfectly suited for the diverse tastes and lifestyles of Ohioans.

Kura Revolving Sushi Bar Reviews
Fun place. It's casual so you can bring the kids. A robot brings you your drinks which I wish I had taken a picture of. Rolls were great; Sashimi was fine. You pay by the plate - can add up quickly but you can sample a wide variety of Sushi. We ate 6 plates between the two of us for a light lunch.
Jun 13, 2025 · lorena levinThere was a quick turnaround time. The servers greeted me promptly with a "Irasshaimase!" It definitely added to the Izakaya feeling! They seated me down to the solo service experience. They also asked if it was my first time and showed me a promotional video about how to use it.The fish itself is excellent, a cut above the AYCE variety. The variety is excellent, ranging from Mackerel, Salmon, Eel and Roe to some unique specimen. However, you can tell that the sushi is rushed to keep up with the conveyor belt. The rice is misshapen and the fish is not formed properly so that it falls apart half the time. If it means having the belt run a bit slower and giving more time for choice and better sushi, that would be the best case scenario and be a win win for everyone. The green tea was ordered through the touchscreen and it was quick. Overall, I would recommend this for a small group of friends or even a solo diner! Definitely a better option than the AYCE options.
Jul 23, 2025 · Kiran MascarenhasSushi is one of my favorite foods, so in terms of variety and options, I do like seeing a more robust sushi menu, but also with the style of service, there are its own limitations to variety and quality. The quality is what I would expect from a chain revolving sushi bar in the Midwest. Very delicious. Never had concern for hygiene or getting sick, despite some people's concerns of the plates being on "constant" display- they are covered and other customers are respectful of the process. You can also just order items individually and there is a conveyer belt that brings it to you,- the wait is never too long. My friends and I come here often.I usually gravitate towards their sushi items, but they have a great variety of ramen, rice, udon, etc, which my friend who have tried them assure me they are delicious as well. That being said, not only is the food delicious, but the service is lovely. Arik always happens to be there when we go and it's so great to see a friendly face, who values the experience you are having. We always have great conversations, when he isn't too busy getting everyone to their seats. He checks on us regularly and is eager to help us with any of our needs-- we get thru the soy sauce and wasabi quite quickly.Other perk, their prizes are very cute- you get one for every 15 plates. My favorite are their original keychain/charms. By downloading the app, you can get rewards and keep track of your lifetime plates, which is fun.
Apr 11, 2025 · Chelsea FuFirst time here and we had a pretty good time. Everything we ate was delicious. My only gripe is that if you're at the end of the conveyor belt you don't have as many choices because everybody else in the restaurant has already picked all the best food. We had to wait multiple revolutions to be able to get some different choices. So if you're at the end of the conveyor belt you get what's left
Jul 30, 2025 · Wildcards RexWe LOVED this place. My husband has never had sushi and we went with a friend- all of us loved everything we tried. I can’t even list all the things we tried because we had such a variety, but I know we can definitely recommend the •buttercake •crispy rice either way crab •eel •crunchy golden roll and tons more. The little robot that delivers drinks was super adorable and made us happy every time it passed by.It was between $18-$25 per person (for adults). If you don’t like sushi there are options- multiple ramens & udons, a few appetizers, desserts, fruits, veggies, and American beef sushi rolls
