★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I recently had the pleasure of dining at La Lucha in Houston, and while the 1 hour and 30-minute wait was definitely a test of patience, the food was absolutely worth it.We started with their homemade biscuits served warm in a cloth-lined basket—perfectly golden and flaky. Paired with the sweet, rich jam on the side, they were comforting and delicious.Next came the chicken and waffles, and this dish was a standout. The fried chicken was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and incredibly flavorful. The waffles were light and fluffy, and the syrup on the side brought everything together beautifully. We also ordered a side of collard greens, which had a deep, savory flavor with just the right touch of seasoning and smokiness—clearly simmered to perfection. The atmosphere is casual and inviting, with a neighborhood feel that complements the Southern comfort food on the menu. Once seated, the service was prompt and friendly, and our food arrived much quicker than expected. While the long wait might not be ideal for everyone, La Lucha delivers big on flavor and comfort. If you’re willing to be patient, you’ll be rewarded with a soulful, satisfying meal. Definitely a spot I’d return to.
May 25 · Itzy JGreat drinks!!! Great food. If you are in Houston this is a must do! Fried chicken tender, moist and delicious. Oysters fresh and the special was 1.25 on a few of them. Nothing that we tried was disappointing. And the tables around were very pleased with their meals
July 29 · Qui MWe went on a Friday at 4:30, and we had a reservation, which I’d recommend because it filled up quickly.Candace, our waitress was very attentive and informed on the menu. The oysters were good. It was my first time having them, so I don’t have any others to compare them to. We would get the deviled eggs and biscuits again. The dumplings were not horrible, but we’ve had better.Of course since they’re known for their chicken, we had to try it. While the chicken was fried hard like we like it, the seasoning was not there, and the three sauces they provided did not do anything for it. I would’ve rather used hot sauce or ketchup. Personally I wouldn’t suggest the chicken. The atmosphere was calming and enjoyable, and the bathroom and establishment was clean.
May 24 · Mya VWent for brunch. The food was pretty good, but not great. Had the grilled shrimp. The shrimp had a grilled taste, but not much other flavor. I also had the fried chicken with biscuits. The chicken was cooked well and I loved the crunch, but needed just a tad bit more seasoning. It did come with 3 sauces, but they didn't really do any justice. The biscuits were good and the jam paired perfectly with them, that was the best part of my meal.
April 28 · Melissa McGaffieIf you know me, you know I’m always down for some good seafood, and this spot has been my go-to for oysters. Every time I pull up, I’m locked in on those briny, fresh-as-hell oysters—easily some of the best in the city. But let me tell you, I had no idea I was sleeping on the rest of the menu.I pulled up on a Sunday for a birthday party, and baby, my taste buds were in for a surprise. I stepped out of my usual and ordered the collard greens and fried chicken, and when I tell you they put their whole soul into that meal? Whew! The greens were seasoned to perfection—none of that bland, watered-down nonsense. I’m talking straight-up bussin’. And that fried chicken? Golden, crispy, juicy… just the kind of southern magic that makes you close your eyes and hum after every bite.Only downside? Parking can be a struggle, but valet is always an option if you don’t feel like fighting for a spot. Trust me, though—it’s worth it. Next time you roll through, don’t just stop at the oysters. The whole menu is bringing that real Southern heat!
