First and foremost, the food itself is a major draw. As noted in customer reviews, the portions are "generous," which is a fantastic value, especially in New York. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1La Nacional has amazing spanish tapas, offering generous portions throughout each appetizer and entree! The service was also great! The staff was very accommodating and checked on us continually throughout the night. We went for a friend’s bday and they sang along with us and made it very special. The drinks were definitely not that strong, although we got the pitcher so maybe that’s why. So I recommend getting individual drinks. Out of all the dishes we tried the chicken was DIVINE. It was so succulent. The paella was fine but not amazing. I did enjoy the squid though, which wasn’t rubbery or chewy but extremely fresh.
June 25 · Zimmi CokerOverall rating: 4.6Price: $14.15 w/ happy hour pricing (excluding tip)I went here a few years ago on a date and really loved the croquettes. I remember the polenta was just okay, but I wasn’t raving about it. What I loved were the croquettes that made me come back for more. Through out the years, the quality has decreased a tad but it’s still a favorite for a happy hour. I just learned recently that they have HH until 7pm and I was able to get a great deal! I got the mix but I think I liked the mushroom slightly more. The dip is sooo good and I definitely want to re-make at home. I also got the happy hour red sangria. It tasted like juice. Wish it had more oomph to it. Not sure if I’d get it again. It seems like a very local spot & definitely local owned. I recommend giving it a try but better off with a group of friends to sample versus going solo.
April 08 · Olivia NWe sat outside and it was super noisy from cars but indoors seemed like the vibe. The staff was friendly and very welcoming but the food was not up to par. The paella was okay, def not the best but the selection for veggie tapas was very slim.
August 12 · Vicky GonzalesPhenomenal Spanish tapas restaurant! La Nacional has been one of my friend's favorite NYC restaurants for the last three years, and I can absolutely see why -- the food is incredible and relatively affordable (especially for Chelsea Market), and the vibes are immaculate. We came by for dinner on a Friday evening, and the place was absolutely bustling. Both floors were completely packed, but we thankfully had a reservation so were able to make it to our spot, a cute little two-top nestled in the corner of the second floor, with ease. We were seated right next to the curtain, which opens up to reveal a live band during the weekends -- our server made a great pitch for the live music, so we'll have to be back some other time to get the full experience. We split a few dishes, including the patatas bravas, croquettes, green mac and cheese, and seafood paella. The portions were massive, so this was more than enough food for the two of us, and could have easily fed a third person and/or been our lunch for the next day. The patatas bravas were super crispy, with a delightfully soft, fluffy interior, and they were served on a giant, boat-like platter that stretched across our entire table. The potatoes were dotted with dollops of two sauces, a slightly spicy and tangy red sauce and a lovely aioli. The same aioli was served with the croquettes, which were perfectly crispy and oozing with gooey, melted cheese. The green mac and cheese was similarly oozing with gooey, melted cheese, which coated the perfectly soft noodles alongside the various green veggies and herbs mixed into the sauce. The little cast iron skillet was then topped with another layer of melted and broiled cheese, and the entire dish was decadent, with a bit of a unique twist and hint of freshness from the herbs and veggies. The paella was, of course, phenomenal, as to be expected from any Spanish restaurant. The rice was super flavorful and had a slight bite, especially the slightly charred bits at the bottom of the pan. It was topped with a generous helping of assorted seafood, including mussels, squid, and shrimp. A small squeeze of lemon added a hint of brightness to the dish, making it the perfect centerpiece to the meal.
January 06 · Sonya HuI have actually been to this place twice and highly recommend it. The service is amazing. Everybody is so professional and so sweet. The food is excellent.
