MáLà Project Introduce
For those in New York City seeking a truly electrifying culinary adventure, MáLà Project is a destination that promises to deliver. Located in the lively East Village, this restaurant is a modern haven for authentic Sichuan cuisine, with a special focus on the signature Málà Dry Pot. The name itself, "má là," translates to "numbing" and "spicy," a perfect description of the unique, tingling heat that defines this regional Chinese cooking style. As an Asian-owned and women-owned business, MáLà Project brings a fresh and passionate perspective to the city’s diverse food scene, offering a trendy, cozy, and casual atmosphere that is perfect for a variety of occasions, from a quick solo meal to a fun dinner with a group of friends.
The centerpiece of the dining experience at MáLà Project is the customizable Málà Dry Pot. Unlike traditional hot pot which is served in a broth, dry pot is a wok-fried medley of ingredients coated in a secret, incredibly flavorful sauce. This is a dish that invites you to be the chef, allowing you to choose from an extensive list of fresh meats, vegetables, and other unique ingredients. The possibilities are nearly infinite, ensuring that no two meals are ever the same. This interactive and personalized approach to dining is what makes the restaurant so beloved among its patrons. The experience is not just about the food, but about the fun and communal process of creating your perfect meal.
Beyond the dry pot, the menu at MáLà Project is a celebration of Northern Chinese classics, from savory appetizers and dim sum to hearty noodles and rice dishes. They also have a reputation for creative cocktails and a well-stocked bar, making it a great spot for happy hour or a late-night bite. The fusion of traditional flavors with a modern, trendy setting has earned the restaurant a loyal following and a place on the prestigious Michelin Guide's Bib Gourmand list, a testament to its exceptional food and value. Whether you’re a long-time fan of Sichuan cuisine or a newcomer eager to explore its bold flavors, MáLà Project offers an authentic, delicious, and memorable experience right in the heart of the city.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The best place for dry pot. Eggplant with roasted garlic is a must try. Spicy popcorn chicken was good too. I would recommend spicy sauce base for the dry pot. Overall the best place to have food. Service and ambience is good too.
July 12 · Pranav GaikwadCame for a quick lunch. I had the cold soba noodles & the leftover fried rice. Both dishes were very tasty and the portion sizes are awesome. Service was super attentive. I will definitely be back :)
July 12 · Astrid MartinezI had the Chinese chicken, house pickles, and scallion pancake with black bean sauce. All pretty delicious and pretty spicy. I felt the chicken could have done with a sauce but the plates were beautifully presented and I was attended well with constant water top ups and check ins - though I was the only customer. Great design and would definitely go back with more people to try more of their offerings!
May 28 · HelenaLoved their dry pot, but was too spicy because i got the most spiciest base underestimating the spice level. If there’s a next time, I’ll stick to a medium.peanuts were really good when paired with a chilled beer.Dumplings were insipid.
May 18 · rashiWe had Mala dry pot with Quail Eggs, Fish Fillet, Chicken Gizzard, Fish Cakes, and Mushrooms. The food was delicious, and the service was great! I’ve had both the Mala and the mild spicy sauce, and would recommend the mildl spicy sauce, unless you love spice.
