Matsunori Introduce
For New Yorkers who appreciate the art and precision of Japanese cuisine, finding a sushi restaurant that delivers both quality and innovation can be a true delight.
Matsunori
, located in the bustling Lower East Side, stands out from the crowd by offering a dining experience that is both traditional in its commitment to fresh ingredients and modern in its creative approach. This is not your typical neighborhood sushi spot; it is a destination for those seeking an elevated and surprising omakase journey. At Matsunori, the concept of omakase, which means "I leave it up to you," is interpreted with a unique, artistic flair. While some sushi purists might prefer a strictly classic style, Matsunori embraces a "creative omakase" philosophy. This means the chefs go beyond traditional preparations, incorporating unexpected flavor combinations and garnishes to enhance the natural taste of the fish. This fusion of classic technique with innovative ideas makes each piece of sushi a discovery, transforming the meal into a captivating and engaging experience.
The restaurant's intimate setting, with limited seating, creates a personal connection between the diners and the sushi chefs. This direct interaction allows for a more tailored experience, where the chef can guide you through the meal and even adjust to your preferences. Matsunori is a place where you can witness culinary artistry up close, from the meticulous slicing of fish to the careful assembly of each piece. It’s a perfect spot for those who are adventurous with their food and are looking to try something new and exciting in the city's dynamic dining scene.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Very mediocre pieces and experience for the price. Sushi pieces were plain or had cheap garnishes like tomato or kiwi - no uni or caviar garnishes. For $98 pp it’s not worth the price - you can find better omakase priced at $55-69 in the area
August 11 · Lydia LiI thought it was pretty good. It’s more of a creative omakase rather than traditional Japanese style so if you’re looking for something classic this might not be the place. But if you’re into fusion it’s definitely worth a visit. I remember the sushi chef who served us was from Taiwan and he was really friendly with great service. Five stars and I would come back next time I’m in New York.
May 11 · OliviaI had an amazing experience at MatsunoriThe fish was so fresh, flavorful, melted in my mouth, and nigiri were very creative ,the pink rice is mix with Dragon fruit therefore has the natural sweetness and go very well with the fish .Steven and Johnny are very friendly and knowledgeable. The service was friendly and quick, and the atmosphere was cozy and clean. Definitely a great place for sushi lovers! Will be back soon. 🍣
April 11 · Whitney XuLoved it here!! one of the best omakase’s I’ve ever had. every piece of fish was extremely fresh and flavorful. the staff was extremely nice and welcoming and it was a cozy atmosphere. each dish was unique and i will definitely be coming back.
February 21 · jen staniloffNice omakase place, with very fresh and creative pieces. The place allows to bring your own alcohol. In terms of price it is on the conservative side, so it is good bargain for this quality. Reservation required.
