Mermaid Oyster Bar Times Square Introduce
Nestled in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, just steps away from the dazzling lights of Broadway, you'll find Mermaid Oyster Bar Times Square, a true gem for seafood lovers. As part of a family of beloved New York seafood restaurants, this location brings a slice of coastal charm and a casually sophisticated atmosphere to one of the city's most bustling neighborhoods. Far from the typical tourist traps, Mermaid Oyster Bar is a reliable and highly-regarded spot that offers a consistent dining experience, blending a lively ambiance with a menu that is both classic and creatively inspired. Whether you're a local on a pre-theater dinner date, a group celebrating a special occasion, or a solo diner looking for a quick bite at the bar, this is a destination that feels both trendy and inviting.
The menu at Mermaid Oyster Bar is a testament to its commitment to fresh, quality ingredients. The raw bar is a major highlight, with a selection of oysters from both the East and West Coasts, as well as platters like the Baby Grand and Grand Platter, which feature a fresh assortment of oysters, clams, and other seafood. The “Nearly Famous” Lobster Roll is a crowd favorite, praised by customers for its generous filling of buttery, well-seasoned lobster and the "amazing" bread that holds it all together. Other standout entrees include the perfectly seared True North Salmon, flavorful Mermaid Fish Tacos, and the hearty 14 oz New York Strip for those who prefer turf over surf. The menu is thoughtfully curated, offering a balance of signature seafood dishes and delicious comfort food options.
Beyond the main courses, the appetizers and small plates are perfect for sharing or enjoying on their own. The New England Clam Chowder, rich with bacon and potatoes, is a must-try, as are the decadent Lobster Knuckles "Escargot Style." For something lighter, the Kale Salad or a starter of Shishito Peppers are excellent choices. The beverage program is equally impressive, with a great selection of cocktails, beer, and wine. The bar offers specialty drinks like the Spicy Margarita and the Lychee & Juliet, and a variety of draft beers, including local favorites like Montauk Wave Chaser IPA. This well-rounded menu ensures that every guest, regardless of their preference, will find something to enjoy.
One of the most appealing aspects of Mermaid Oyster Bar is its lively yet cozy atmosphere. The dining area is often described as dimly lit and intimate, making it an excellent spot for a date night or a casual catch-up with a friend. The bar, which can get packed, is a testament to the restaurant's popularity and provides a great spot to enjoy a drink and some light bites. While some reviews mention that the service, though efficient, may not always be overly warm, the staff's professionalism and the speed at which food is delivered are consistently highlighted as a major plus, especially for theatergoers with a limited timeframe. The restaurant also prides itself on being a space for everyone, drawing a diverse crowd of locals and tourists alike.
While a few reviews have noted that some dishes might feel a bit pricey for the portion, the overall consensus is that the food is high-quality and the experience is reliable. The happy hour, which runs until 5:30 PM, is particularly popular, offering great deals on oysters, mini fish tacos, and a selection of discounted drinks. For anyone seeking a dependable and delicious seafood meal in a location that's often dominated by tourist-oriented eateries, Mermaid Oyster Bar is a refreshing and a very reliable pick. It’s a place that delivers on its promise of fresh, well-prepared seafood in a comfortable and trendy setting, making it a great destination for a variety of occasions.

What is worth choosing
What makes Mermaid Oyster Bar a truly worthwhile choice is its ability to deliver an authentic and high-quality seafood experience right in the middle of a notoriously tourist-heavy area. The freshness of their seafood, especially the oysters on their raw bar and the lobster in their famous lobster roll, is consistently praised by patrons. The grand platter is an excellent way to start a meal, offering a fresh, clean, and beautifully presented taste of their best offerings. Another key factor is the restaurant's dual nature: it's a perfect spot for a full, seated dinner with delicious entrees, yet it also excels as a casual bar for a quick drink and a few small plates. The happy hour is a fantastic deal, making it possible to enjoy high-quality oysters and drinks at a more accessible price point. The location is an obvious advantage for those visiting or working in the area, particularly for theatergoers looking for a reliable pre-show meal. While the ambiance and service may be more efficient than overtly warm, the focus remains on the food and the speed of service, which is a major benefit in this busy part of town. For a consistent, high-quality seafood meal in a central and trendy setting, Mermaid Oyster Bar is a fantastic and dependable pick.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This was actually my second visit to The Mermaid Oyster Bar in Times Square. The first time was pretty solid — the food was good, and while the service wasn’t super friendly, it was efficient and fine.Same goes for this visit. The staff weren’t exactly warm, but everything came out quickly and smoothly. We had the grand platter, steak sandwich, fish tacos, and the lobster roll. The grand platter was a great starter — everything was fresh, clean, and well-presented.The steak sandwich was tasty, but I will say it felt like there could’ve been a bit more steak inside for the price. Still enjoyable, just a little light. The lobster roll was probably the highlight — buttery, well-seasoned, and the bread was actually amazing.I usually leave some bread behind, but this time I ate every bite.Overall, it’s not a “wow” experience in terms of ambiance or service, but if you want solid seafood and quick service near Times Square, it’s a very reliable pick. I’d go back again.
April 24 · Serena ShinThis is my second time visiting this location. Been to the other locations plenty of time for their happy hour specials. This location only has happy hour until 5:30pm but worth it esp for their oysters. They have both drinks and food specials during happy hour but missed it this time around. Enjoyed a glass of beer (Montauk Wave Chaser IPA) while sitting at the bar, and the bar was packed. The bartenders are really friendly and checks in frequently. The dining area is usually dimly lit so it is a bit intimate if on a date or catching up with a friend. The restrooms are located downstairs so you do have to go down two sets of stairs. Definitely a good spot for first round of drinks and light bites!
April 17 · Nicole KimLoved this was my first oysters ever. The happy hour process we're very good especially considering the location. Literally no complaints. The clams were also very delicious. Will certainly come back when I'm in the area.
August 14 · Cole CaulfieldWe’ve always loved Mermaid Oyster Bar in Greenwich Village, so we were excited to find one in the heart of Times Square! Didn’t get oysters this time, but the shrimp and avocado slider was amazing — flavorful with just the right kick. The lobster roll was fresh and perfectly dressed, a total winner. My husband declared their burger the best he’s had in ages, so that’s saying something. Great vibe, friendly staff, and solid cocktails to round it all out. Definitely a spot we’ll be coming back to, oyster or not!
August 05 · Janessa TiburcioI used to frequent Mermaid Oyster Bar down on MacDougal and the UWS so figured I would come here since I was in the area. I dropped in craving lobster and oysters right before Happy Hour. But the only thing worth ordering on happy hour are the grilled shrimp and avocado sliders. $9 a slider is a steep price and I had two, but they were probably my fav item I ate this late afternoon. I tried the Mac and cheese with lobster, but sent it back after two bites because it was bland, and didn’t have any lobster in it. While I waited with a glass on Sancerre, I had a dozen oysters. And, no, not the VA ones from happy hour selection, and they were fresh and delicious. After having that, I figured a lobster roll and fries were too much as I was nearly content so I went with the lobster knuckles escargot style. Subtle and just enough food for the rest of the night. My server looked like Michael Rainey Jr. and was nice, (flirtatious), but nice. The ambiance was lovely and I thoroughly enjoyed my early dinner experience with myself. Would return.
