For those in New York City looking for a truly special dining experience, Omakase by Kun Tsuki offers a compelling choice. While the name might seem intimidating, the experience is designed to be welcoming and incredibly rewarding.
The number one reason to choose this place is its incredible value. As one reviewer stated, it is "the best bang-for-your-buck omakase I've had in the city." An 18-course menu for a reasonable price is almost unheard of in New York and makes this a destination worth seeking out. The menu itself is a journey of flavors, with highlights such as the exceptionally tasty miso soup, the luxurious toro with caviar, and the unique salmon with foie gras. For uni fans, the "exceptionally good" and sweet uni is a major draw.
Beyond the food, the experience itself is a key selling point. The open kitchen and counter seating create an "exceptional dining experience," with the staff and chefs making the meal interactive and educational. The personalized service, where chefs are "eager to share insights about the food," is a rarity that makes you feel truly valued as a guest. The cozy and trendy atmosphere adds to the sense of a hidden gem, a place that feels special and exclusive without being stuffy.
While a few of the pieces might be torched or seared (aburi nigiri), which may not appeal to all, the overall variety and quality of the menu make it a standout choice. The inclusion of unique and delicious appetizers and a satisfying dessert ensures the experience is complete from start to finish. For a memorable and high-quality sushi dinner that won't break the bank, Omakase by Kun Tsuki is a top-tier option that delivers on all fronts.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1If you're like me, always looking for a great value in Omakase, Kun Tsuki is definitely worth the trip and the money. Excellent service, intimate environment, and a wonderful 18 course menu for the price ($85 plus tax and tip). Highlights were their exceptionally tasty take on miso soup, the toro with caviar, salmon with foie gras, and miso crisp with toro and uni. They also leaned into spice the night I went, using a variety of pepper based sauces, which I really enjoyed. For uni fans--you won't be disappointed. There's was exceptionally good, bending toward the sweet. For people who don't enjoy aburi nigiri (torched or seared)--probably 4 or 5 pieces were aburi. All and all, it's a great value, a lovely atmosphere and a wonderful menu.
April 02 · Carla BriscoeAn Exceptional Dining ExperienceFrom start to finish, this restaurant delivered an outstanding experience. The staff--Jason, Kevin, and Chef Wing--were not only personable but also impressively knowledgeable. They were eager to share insights about the food, including its origins, preparation techniques, and even the specific temperatures at which it was served. One of the highlights was the open kitchen concept, where we could watch our dishes being prepared right in front of us. The food arrived quickly, fresh, and perfectly executed. Any questions I had--whether about specific dishes or sushi options--were met with prompt, thoughtful responses. It's rare to find such a combination of quality, transparency, and service. I'll definitely be back and will also spread the word (even though it would be best for this hidden gem to stay hidden).
April 29 · Pamela CThis was such a great experience. Everything from food to service was 10 out of 10. We did the omakase and each bite was absolutely excellent. Probably one of the best value for money restaurants I have gone to in quite a while.
July 25 · PeterAn amazing little gem in the big city. Each of the 18 courses provided unique and fantastic flavors. The quality of the ingredients made a huge difference - the soft and rich fish, the hints of quality wasabi - everything.Would highly recommend, such a great experience.
April 20 · Yuval RosenWe tried the 18 courses for $80 omakase. There is also a cut down version of 10 courses for $45.I found the appetizers before sushi a bit underwhelming. But all courses of sushi actually came out very good, with fresh fish, a good combination of ingredients and flawless seasoning. My only complaint was that the sushi was too small, to the point where after 17 courses I was still not quite full (which is unusual) but the dessert was filling. The owner offered a 20% discount card for us to visit next time so I may consider it!
