Choosing Papa San is a decision that promises a culinary experience unlike any other in New York. The most compelling reason is the unique and exceptional quality of its Nikkei cuisine. It’s a chance to taste dishes that are a result of creative genius, like the curry mussels and the squid cacio e pepe udon, which are praised for their incredible flavors and fresh preparation. The restaurant’s commitment to this unique fusion sets it apart from the typical New York dining scene and makes it a destination for food enthusiasts. The positive feedback about the food, especially the "standout dishes," is a testament to the kitchen's skill and innovation.
Beyond the food, the overall experience is a major factor. The cozy and charming interior creates a perfect setting for a variety of social occasions, from a romantic date to a fun night out with friends. The cocktail program, with its unique and bold concoctions, adds another layer of excitement to the evening. The soy milk matcha sesame soft serve, described as "truly exceptional" and a reason to "go back just for that alone," is a perfect example of a small detail that makes a huge impression. While one review noted a need for better timing on entrees and a "cold" bar counter, the same reviewer expressed a willingness to return, indicating that the overall potential and quality of the dining room experience outweigh minor critiques. Papa San is a testament to the power of a unique concept executed with passion, making it a worthwhile choice for anyone looking to explore new and exciting flavors in the heart of New York City.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Everything from the food and drinks to the overall vibe was perfect for dinner. The interior was charming and cozy without being too loud, making it an ideal spot for a date night or a night out with friends. The standout dishes for us were the curry mussels and the squid cacio e pepe udon. Each of us tried a different cocktail, and we were all impressed. I especially recommend the Mango No. 5. The use of unique ingredients reflects the creativity you'd expect from a bar ranked among the world's top 50.The hidden gem of the night, however, was the desser!! The soy milk matcha sesame soft serve was unlike anything we've ever tasted—truly exceptional. We’d go back just for that alone...
May 30 · LeslieThe food is fresh and nicely prepared. Timing needs work as there were only two entrees and they didn’t come out together. Even with a nice bartender who made good drinks, the stainless steel bar counter feels cold and unwelcoming. The dining room may be better and I’ll be willing to try it again - later in the day. Lunch has no vibe.
August 20 · Ms. TranPapa San is a non traditional take on Nikkei food, but it occupies an otherwise bare niche in the NYC market. The food was good, experimental, and to some extent truly novel. The service was incredible, shout out to our server Mia! She’s so sweet making our drinks and talking to us! Finally, the atmosphere was very fun and unique!
June 03 · Yijie XiongMade a reservation and we were seated immediately. There are cute chopsticks holders on the table. I only hope the chopsticks weren’t rounded cause it rolled off. The rolls were interesting and creative. The eel pizza barely has any eel. It seems like only one penny size eel on each slice. The curry sauce on the mussels is full of flavors and the mussels are cooked prefectly
May 07 · Wing LeeFun new spot from the llama San team! We got to sit at the counter by the open kitchen so we could see everything being prepared, so cool! We stuck with small plates so we could try a bunch of things. The blue crab maki and lomo saltado maki were amazing, definitely the best dishes we had. We also enjoyed the mushroom ceviche, octopus ceviche and curry mussels. The eel pizza was another big hit, the cacio e pepe was a miss for me though. Drinks were fun, mine came with cotton candy!
