Peking Duck House Introduce
In the vibrant, bustling heart of New York's Chinatown, where culinary options are as abundant as the crowds, Peking Duck House stands as a legendary institution. Located at 28 Mott Street, it has long been celebrated as the city's premier destination for its namesake dish, Peking duck. More than just a meal, a visit here is an event. The restaurant elevates the dining experience beyond a typical Chinatown eatery with its more formal atmosphere, complete with white linen tablecloths, attentive service, and a tradition of tableside carving. For decades, it has drawn a devoted following of locals and a steady stream of tourists, all in pursuit of the perfectly roasted duck with its famously crispy skin and succulent meat.
The allure of Peking Duck House is deeply rooted in its commitment to authenticity and quality. While many restaurants offer Peking duck, this establishment has perfected the art, making it the star of the show. The process, from the initial roasting to the final carving, is a spectacle that diners can witness firsthand. A chef expertly slices the glistening, mahogany-hued duck right at your table, a moment that adds a layer of theatricality to the meal. This dedication to tradition and spectacle is a major part of its appeal. Beyond the duck, the extensive menu features a wide array of classic Chinese dishes, including a variety of seafood specialties, traditional stir-fries, and an assortment of appetizers and soups. Whether you are a connoisseur of Chinese cuisine or a first-time visitor, the menu offers a rich selection of flavors that showcases the depth and diversity of the culinary tradition. This blend of high-quality food, a unique dining experience, and a slightly more upscale atmosphere distinguishes Peking Duck House from its peers in the neighborhood.
Peking Duck House is perfectly situated at 28 Mott Street, a central and easily accessible location in Chinatown. Its address places it right in the middle of the action, surrounded by the sights, sounds, and smells that define the neighborhood. The restaurant is easily reachable for locals and tourists alike via New York City's extensive public transit network. The nearest subway stations, including those for the 4, 6, J, N, Q, R, and W lines at Canal Street, are all a short walk away. This makes it a convenient dining spot from almost anywhere in Manhattan, Brooklyn, or Queens. For those driving, paid street parking is available, though it can be a challenge to find a spot in this busy area, making public transportation a more recommended option.
The restaurant is committed to accessibility for all guests, offering a wheelchair-accessible entrance and seating. This ensures that a diverse range of patrons can enjoy a comfortable and stress-free dining experience. Its location also makes it a great choice for various occasions, from a casual lunch to a special dinner, as it's perfectly positioned for a night out in Lower Manhattan. The setting, while more formal than many of its neighbors, remains casual enough to feel welcoming and not overly stuffy. The central location, coupled with these thoughtful accessibility features, makes Peking Duck House a practical and inviting choice for a wide variety of diners.
Peking Duck House provides a comprehensive suite of services to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all of its guests. These services cater to different needs, from quick meals to planned large gatherings. Key services include:
- Dine-in: The primary service, offering a full table-service dining experience in a comfortable setting. The carving of the duck tableside is a key part of this service.
- Takeaway and Delivery: For those who prefer to enjoy their meal at home or in the office, the restaurant offers both takeaway and delivery options, making it easy to savor their famous dishes wherever you are.
- Reservations: Dinner reservations are recommended, especially for groups or during peak hours, to secure a table and avoid a wait. The restaurant accepts reservations to help with planning.
- Accepts Various Payments: Unlike some other local Chinatown establishments, Peking Duck House accepts major credit cards, debit cards, and NFC mobile payments, providing a convenient and modern payment experience.
- BYOB Policy: A notable feature is their friendly BYOB (Bring Your Own Bottle) policy for wine, with no corkage fee. This allows patrons to bring their favorite wine to pair with their meal, making the experience more personalized and cost-effective.
These services demonstrate the restaurant's commitment to accommodating various dining preferences and making the process as convenient as possible.
While the Peking duck itself is the main attraction, several features and highlights make Peking Duck House a truly special dining destination. These elements contribute to its enduring popularity and positive reputation. Key highlights include:
- The Peking Duck Experience: This is not just a dish; it's a spectacle. The entire duck, cooked to perfection, is paraded to your table before being expertly carved by a chef. The crisp, lacquered skin and tender meat are served with thin pancakes, scallions, and hoisin sauce, creating a DIY wrap that is both delicious and fun.
- Chef's Specialties: Beyond the duck, the menu boasts an impressive selection of chef's specials. Dishes like the Sizzling Rack of Lamb, Grand Marnier Prawns, and Crispy Beef with Spicy Sauce showcase the kitchen’s skill and offer compelling alternatives for those not opting for duck.
- BYOB with No Corkage Fee: This is a significant draw for many patrons, as it allows them to bring their own wine without an additional charge, which is a rare and welcome policy in NYC dining.
- High-Quality Ingredients: Customers consistently praise the quality of the food. Reviewers highlight the "moist, full of flavor" duck and the quality of other dishes on the menu.
- Group-Friendly Dining: The restaurant is well-suited for groups, with special dinner packages designed to feed multiple people, making it an excellent choice for a family dinner or a gathering with friends.
- Upscale but Casual Atmosphere: The restaurant strikes a balance between being a formal, white-tablecloth establishment and a casual, welcoming space. The ambiance is perfect for a relaxed yet special meal.
These features, from the unique dining experience to the practical benefits like the BYOB policy, make a visit to Peking Duck House a memorable occasion.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Probably the best Duck I've ever eaten! The sauce for the duck is finger linking good. The wonton soup was good but no match for the shrimp soup. The wraps were very good but the barbeque beef was better. The fried fish paired beautifully with the special fried rice. One of the best Chinese restaurants in the city.
August 20 · Daniel VelezGreat overall Chinese restaurant, but especially for peking duck. BYOB, so you can bring your own drinks. For a party of 4, an order of peking duck and 3 side dishes were enough. Clean interiors, and spacious. Didn't walk in expecting Michelin star service and was pleasantly surprised!
April 26 · A. K.Really nice chines food here! The old asian lady who owned the restaurant, was super friendly & nice. This place is not only English friendly, but they had many American dishes as-well! Great for people wanting to expand their taste-buds, but is willing to stick to their desired taste.
July 31 · IsaBelle Marie TuscaService was prompt for our walk-in party of 7. We ordered 2 Peking duck, seafood lo mein, Chinese broccoli in oyster sauce, and the jellyfish salad appetizer. The duck was juicy and the skin was crispy, 10/10. The lo mein noodles themselves were good, but they skimped on the seafood
April 23 · Kimberly SchnellerGreat place for a NYC Chinatown experience. The BYOB is a bonus with no corking fee! Simple quality service, which counts, compared to other establishments, which can make or break your night. Start with appetizers from the jellyfish, cold noodles, spare ribs, and then slowly progress to the duck. The key thing to remember is to ask for the duck remains to be made into a tofu and veggie soup, AFTER cutting the meat. This secondary part will be a treat. Get the shrimp with walnuts, fried squid, etc. Wrap your duck with the sauce, scallions, etc, and enjoy! If OG Chinatown folks still come here, that's a good sign. Consistent restaurant 👌
