What is particularly worth noting about Sabrett is its role as a New York institution. The brand has been a part of the city for decades, and its presence at Grand Central is a testament to its enduring appeal. The brand’s iconic blue and yellow colors are instantly recognizable and evoke a sense of tradition and nostalgia. For many New Yorkers, a Sabrett hot dog is a comfort food, a taste of home. The fact that it is good for kids also makes it a family-friendly choice, an easy way to please picky eaters while on the go. The simple, honest nature of the food is a big part of its charm. It doesn't pretend to be anything it's not; it's just a great hot dog, served the way New Yorkers like it. This authenticity is a major reason for its continued popularity.
The feedback available about the stand at Grand Central, however, paints a complex picture. While the brand is iconic, it's clear that individual experiences can vary. Some customer reviews express significant dissatisfaction with pricing and service. For instance, a customer review mentions being charged different prices for the same item at different times, leading to a feeling of being "scammed." Another review highlights an exorbitant price for a hot dog and soda. These accounts suggest that while the product itself may be a New York staple, it's important for customers to be aware of the pricing and to ask questions before making a purchase. The reviews also mention the quality of the hot dog preparation, with one customer noting a "butterflied" hot dog, which they found undesirable. This underscores the fact that while the brand is well-known, the specific service and quality can be inconsistent at different stands.
It is important to approach a visit to any food stand, including Sabrett, with a sense of awareness. While it's an iconic brand, customers should remain vigilant about pricing and ensure they are getting what they expect. The high-profile location at Grand Central can be a factor in pricing, but consistent and fair pricing is a core expectation for any business. The customer feedback, while negative, serves as a cautionary tale and a reminder for the business to maintain transparency and consistency. Despite these reviews, the core product—the Sabrett hot dog—remains a beloved part of New York City’s food landscape. The brand’s legacy is built on the simple pleasure of a well-made hot dog, and for many, that legacy continues to hold strong. It's a reminder that even the most beloved institutions have moments that can leave a bad taste, and that customer vigilance is always a good practice.
The sheer volume of people who pass through Grand Central Terminal every day makes this Sabrett stand a key location. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1If I could give this place 0 stars, trust me, I would. At exactly 5:39pm on Saturday March 8th, International Woman’s, we got scammed by this hot dog stand. He said it was $15 for an Italian sausage, and we had no choice but to pay for it, even though the hot dog was butterflied. I’ve never seen a hot dog split 4 ways. As we were skeptical, we asked the same vendor stand down the street how much they were charging and they said $12. 2 hours later, we passed by this hot dog stand again and asked how much for an Italian sausage. Why did he say $10 now? So basically we got scammed an extra $5 for a messy hot dog that was split 4 ways. I would highly recommend walking way pass this stand. Completely outraged and disappointed by this barbaric behaviour. It left a really bad taste in our mouth. The greed for 1 hot dog is outrageous. DO NOT GET SCAMMED HERE!!
March 09 · Kelly TaWorst hot dog ever. This guy will rip you off. $20 for a hot dog and soda. What a joke.
June 18 · Aaron GreenwaldWorst street food I had maybe ever. Lamb/chicken over rice was cold and crappy. I guess as long as I don't get sick I'll be ok
