Salt & Pepper Introduce
In the bustling, fast-paced atmosphere surrounding Penn Station, New Yorkers are often on the hunt for a quick, affordable, and satisfying meal. While the area is filled with countless options, a true hidden gem awaits at Salt & Pepper. Despite its broad menu that includes everything from burgers and pizzas to Latin American dishes, this spot has developed a cult following for one specific reason: its authentic and incredibly flavorful Pakistani and Indian food. Locals who have discovered this spot know that while the offerings are vast, the real magic happens in the kitchen when a seasoned chef is at work.
Salt & Pepper is a culinary anomaly in the best possible way. While it presents itself as a Spanish restaurant and offers a wide array of American comfort food and Latin dishes, a deep dive into the customer reviews reveals a passionate following for its South Asian cuisine. This is the kind of place where you "have to know what to order," and what you should order, according to dedicated fans, is anything made fresh by the 60-year-old Pakistani chef. His cooking, particularly the Chicken Karahi, is praised as a "banging" and authentic experience that "truly took me back to the streets of Punjab." This dish, made fresh to order and served in the seasoned wok that gives it a special taste, is a standout that no one else in the area can replicate.
The appeal of Salt & Pepper lies in its unpretentious and honest approach to food. While the name might be misleading, the quality and passion for certain dishes are undeniable. The restaurant offers an excellent selection of Indian specials, including Chicken Biryani and Tandoori Chicken, alongside a robust vegetarian Indian food menu with dishes like Palak Paner and Daal Makhani. The affordability of these dishes, combined with their authenticity, makes Salt & Pepper a rare find in Midtown Manhattan. The commitment to fresh, made-to-order food sets it apart from typical grab-and-go spots in the area, offering a more soulful and satisfying experience.
The atmosphere at Salt & Pepper is casual and straightforward, designed for convenience. It's the kind of place you can pop into for a quick bite or a satisfying dinner. It’s popular for solo diners, groups, and tourists looking for a taste of something different. The staff, described by customers as friendly and accommodating, contributes to the positive experience. The cash register is separate from the food preparation area, which, along with the hot and ready food dishes, helps with the flow during busy times. Whether you're in the mood for a quick, flavorful meal or you've heard the whispers about the legendary Chicken Karahi, Salt & Pepper is a destination worth seeking out for its unique and delicious offerings.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Hear me out, I know this place advertises themselves as a Spanish spot and serve everything from Smoothies to Burgers and Pizzas to Pakistan Indian food, BUT the only thing you wanna eat here is anything made fresh to order, especially the Chicken Karahi, Naan and Chicken Tandoori!!What an absolute gem of a place if you know what to order, the 60 year old Pakistani Chef makes a BANGING Chicken Karahi FRESH to order. It’s a hidden gem in Manhattan that I don’t wanna gate keep anymore to get them as much business as possible.I called ahead to ask if the Pakistani chef was working and he was happy to make ahead a fresh order of Spicy Chicken Karahi. We got there and this 60 year old uncle greeted us with his bright smile and asked us if we wanted anything else made fresh. The karahi came in the seasoned wok that gives it the special Taste. Truly took me back to the streets of Punjab, happy to say that I will be going here whenever I crave a Karahi bc no one else comes even close to this!

August 05 · Adil ChoudhuryThis is the best Indian/Pakistani food restaurant in the New York city, I've had a chance to visit this restaurant multiple times and it never disappointed me and always went beyond expectations. Anybody from Indian subcontinent or indian food lover visiting new york must visit this restaurant and enjoy their cuisine. Owner himself is one of the nicest person. Highly Recommended.
January 04 · Paris AzeemMexican (kinda) slash Indian food. If you need a quick bite but want something good and not the usual fried trash, this place knocks it out of the park. I had beans and rice with chicken with a side of okra dashed with raw onions and jalapeños....omg!Perfectly seasoned, this unassuming spot is now going to be heavy in the rotation whenever I roll into Manhattan.
