Sun Hing Lung Introduce
In the heart of New York City's vibrant Chinatown lies a true hidden gem, a place that embodies the spirit of authentic, no-frills, and incredibly delicious food. Sun Hing Lung is that place. It's not a grand, sit-down restaurant, but rather a humble spot that specializes in a few key items, executed with a level of perfection that has earned it a loyal following among locals. The focus here is on freshly made rice rolls (or cheung fun), steamed to order and served with a variety of flavorful fillings. This eatery is a testament to the fact that great food doesn't need to come with a hefty price tag or a fancy setting; sometimes, the best meals are the simplest.
The atmosphere at Sun Hing Lung is what you might call "authentically casual." It's a place where you can grab a quick bite and be on your way, perfect for a busy New Yorker's lifestyle. The magic happens behind the counter, where you can watch the friendly staff prepare your order on steaming trays. This transparency and dedication to freshness is a major part of its charm. Sun Hing Lung is a go-to spot for locals, often discovered through word-of-mouth or online buzz, as it offers a genuine taste of a beloved Chinese street food tradition. It's the ideal spot for a quick, satisfying, and wallet-friendly breakfast or lunch.
Sun Hing Lung is located at 58 Henry St, New York, NY 10002, USA. Nestled within the bustling streets of Chinatown, its location is convenient for those exploring the Lower East Side and its surrounding areas. While it may be a small storefront, its reputation is large among those in the know.
For getting there, public transportation is a great option, as the area is well-served by a number of subway lines and buses. For those with a car, there is paid street parking available, though as with most of Manhattan, it's wise to plan ahead for parking. The venue is primarily known as a takeout spot, with very limited seating, so it's best to grab your food and enjoy it on the go or find a nearby park bench. The experience is more about the delicious food than it is about a sit-down dining environment.
The services at Sun Hing Lung are streamlined to provide fast, efficient, and delicious food to its customers.
- Takeout: This is the primary service option, allowing customers to quickly order their food at the counter and take it with them.
- Dine-in: While seating is limited, there are some dine-in options available for those who want to eat on the spot.
- Breakfast, Brunch, and Lunch: Sun Hing Lung is a popular spot for morning and midday meals, offering a perfect start to your day or a satisfying lunch break.
- Quick Bite: The menu is designed for a quick and easy meal, making it an ideal choice for those on a tight schedule.
One of the most notable aspects of the service is its speed. Customers have praised the "super quick" service, with a typical wait time of only a few minutes even for freshly prepared items.
What makes Sun Hing Lung a standout in a city full of dining options is its dedication to quality, authenticity, and affordability.
- **Unbeatable Prices:** The value offered here is unparalleled. With most rice rolls priced at around $2.00, customers can get a huge amount of fresh and delicious food for a very low cost. One review noted getting a meal for four people for less than $20.
- **Authentic Rice Rolls:** This is the main attraction. The rice rolls are made fresh to order, with a perfect, supple texture and a variety of fillings, from classic pork and beef to more unique options like dried shrimp and Chinese sausage.
- **Fresh Tofu and Desserts:** Beyond the rice rolls, the fresh tofu and desserts like sweet tofu and grass jelly are highly praised. The sweet tofu, in particular, has a reputation for being "so good."
- **Simple and Authentic Menu:** The menu is straightforward and easy to navigate, with a clear focus on a few specialties. This simplicity allows them to perfect each item they offer.
- **Local's Favorite:** This is a true "locals' spot," which is a sign of its authenticity and quality. It's a place where regulars go for a reliable and delicious meal.
- **Cash-Only:** A key detail that adds to its authentic, old-school feel is that the establishment is cash-only, so it's important to come prepared.
The combination of fresh ingredients, low prices, and genuine flavor is what truly makes Sun Hing Lung an exceptional choice. The kindness of the staff also adds to the overall positive experience, making it a friendly and welcoming spot.

When you're looking for a quick, delicious, and authentic Chinese meal in New York, Sun Hing Lung is a top-tier choice. The main reason to choose this spot is for the rice rolls. They are what the restaurant is famous for, and for good reason. Reviews consistently praise the "fresh, warm and good texture" of the rice rolls, with fillings like dried shrimp, fresh shrimp, beef, and pork all being fan favorites. The unique offering of corn and mixed vegetable rice rolls also provides a great alternative. The fact that they are made fresh on the spot is a huge draw, ensuring a superior taste and quality that you won't find at many other places.
Beyond the rice rolls, the sheer value of the food is a compelling reason to visit. In a city where a single meal can easily cost $20 or more, getting a full and satisfying meal for under $5 is a rare and welcome find. This affordability makes Sun Hing Lung an accessible option for everyone, from college students to families.
The genuine, local feel of the place is also a major plus. This is where you go to eat like a New Yorker, to find the hidden spots that are not just tourist traps. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We missed the M9 and decided to hustle over a block for rice rolls over at Sun Hing Lung Ho Fun Tofu - and we’re so glad we did. Only in Chinatown can you get so much good food for 4 people (we only have 3 but one is a teen!) for less than $20! We ordered the dried shrimp rice roll (yummy and has fresh green onion!!!), fresh shrimp rice roll, beef rice roll, pork rice roll, fresh tofu, and decided to try the jelly they had stacked on a table (it’s jello that comes with a sweet sauce to pour on top) and the grand total was less than $20!This isn’t Cheung Fun Noodles but the variety and kindness of the nice woman at the window made this just as great! Definitely a must go for rice rolls if you’re shopping at the grocery and hangry :)
August 03 · Solange HansenVery authentic spot! I came around 10 AM—no line, and only waited about 3 minutes for the fresh veggie rice rolls. I wanted to try the fried tofu, but they were out, so the lady kindly offered me the sweet tofu instead—and it was so good! I totally see why this place is so popular with locals. I found it through TikTok and was not disappointed—super fresh, delicious, and only $5? Wow!!!
June 21 · Diana DvorskáSun Hing Lung/Plain Steamed Rice Roll:The service was fast and friendly and the employee was very nice. But, unfortunately this spot is out to lunch (no pun intended). My gut was in a knot when I saw how deserted the line was because there wasn’t any. And it was confirmed when my order looked like discolored cabbage and tasted as bland as unseasoned rice; even the soy sauce didn’t help.
July 20 · Jeff T. CriticCASH ONLY.For the price, this is an excellent rice roll that is SUPER QUICK. No more waiting 40 minutes at any other location. The ladies working here will get your order in 3-5 minutes flat.I highly recommend the egg rice roll and add scallions. They also keep sauces outside that are all delicious: hoisin, peanut sauce, soy sauce, and sriracha. I personally just added all 4 and it was delicious. This is really great for the price and might now be my go to spot when I need this.
