Great experience! The space felt cozy but spacious. Service was very attentive. Compared with other omakase places at similar price point, you get lots of course. All the appetizer/amuse dishes were delicious, especially the fired unagi and the Japanese amberjack sashimi. Super fresh fish and seafood and you get a great variety, and uni from Hokkaido was sweet and creamy. Ikumi also has two seaweed pieces which I don’t see commonly in other places, and both were very flavorful, and my guess is that these are their way to replace the more commonly-seen hand roll. Chef doesn’t talk too much but is very friendly :) Would love to see Ikumi receive a star soon. - Kyle Liu

What sets Sushi Ikumi apart is its purist approach to sushi. While many contemporary omakase spots are known for over-the-top, fusion-style creations, Sushi Ikumi focuses on bringing out the best in each individual piece of fish. As one satisfied customer noted, the restaurant excels at "bringing out the best flavor of the fish, and not over complicating it." This philosophy is a refreshing return to the core principles of authentic sushi-making, where the quality of the ingredients and the skill of the chef are the true highlights. The experience is both educational and deeply satisfying, as the subtle flavors of each fish are allowed to shine without unnecessary embellishment. The omakase menu offers a generous number of courses, including unique offerings like two distinct seaweed pieces that one reviewer speculated were a thoughtful replacement for the more common hand rolls. The attention to detail extends beyond the food to the service, which is consistently described as "very attentive" and "wonderful." The staff, including the friendly and focused chef, create a warm and inviting environment that enhances the overall dining experience, making it perfect for a variety of occasions, from a special dinner to a quiet evening of solo dining.

The balance of a top-notch culinary offering and a welcoming ambiance is what makes Sushi Ikumi a truly special destination in the heart of SoHo.
