Sushi Ryusei Introduce
Tucked away in the vibrant Murray Hill neighborhood of Midtown East, Sushi Ryusei is an authentic Japanese sushi restaurant that has quickly become a standout destination for discerning diners. Far from being just another sushi spot, it is a place where the art of sushi-making is elevated to a true culinary experience. The atmosphere is best described as cozy and trendy, offering a tranquil retreat from the city's fast pace. It’s an ideal setting for a refined dinner or a special night out, and the intimate setting makes it perfect for solo diners as well.
What truly sets Sushi Ryusei apart is its deep commitment to quality and tradition. The restaurant is led by a masterful chef, known as a "true sushi artist," who crafts each piece with "simplicity and precision, allowing the natural flavors to shine." The fish is consistently praised by patrons for being "impeccably fresh" and of the highest quality. This dedication is most evident in the omakase experience, where the chef takes you on a personalized journey through the best of the day's offerings. While it may be a "hidden gem" to some, its reputation for delivering an "unforgettable experience" has made it a favorite among those in the know.
Sushi Ryusei is located at 216 E 39th St, New York, NY 10016, USA. This prime address places it in the heart of the Murray Hill area, a bustling and easily accessible part of Manhattan. The restaurant is just a short walk from several key public transportation hubs, including Grand Central Terminal, which provides access to numerous subway lines (4, 5, 6, 7) and the Metro-North Railroad. This makes it a convenient dining destination for commuters, residents, and visitors from across the city.
For guests with mobility needs, the restaurant is committed to providing a comfortable and accommodating experience. It offers a wheelchair-accessible entrance, seating, and restroom. While street parking can be challenging in this area of Midtown, its proximity to major transit lines ensures a hassle-free journey for most. The location is an excellent choice for a pre-theater dinner or a post-work meal, as it is situated in a lively neighborhood with plenty to see and do.
Sushi Ryusei provides a range of services to cater to its clientele, from a full-service dining experience to convenient takeout.
Dine-in: Guests have the option of enjoying their meal at a table or at the sushi bar. The latter is highly recommended for the full omakase experience, allowing you to watch the chef "work his magic."
Takeout and Delivery: For those who prefer to enjoy their sushi at home or in the office, the restaurant offers both traditional takeout and no-contact delivery, ensuring the same great quality and freshness wherever you are.
Reservations: Given the popularity of the sushi bar and the intimate nature of the restaurant, dinner reservations are highly recommended, especially for the coveted omakase seating.
Catering: The restaurant offers a variety of catering platters, including sushi, sashimi, and combo options, making it easy to bring a taste of Ryusei to your next event or gathering.
Sushi Ryusei stands out in the crowded New York sushi scene with a few key highlights that make it an exceptional choice.
Unmatched Omakase Experience: The omakase is the star of the show. It is a chef-curated, multi-course tasting menu that showcases the freshest, most high-quality fish available. Guests rave about the value and the sheer artistry of each piece.
High-Quality Ingredients: From the fatty tuna (otoro and chutoro) to the scallops and sea urchin, the fish is sourced for its superior freshness. The simple preparation allows these natural flavors to be the highlight of every bite.
Extensive Menu: Beyond the omakase, the restaurant offers a comprehensive a la carte menu with a wide variety of sushi, sashimi, and cut rolls. There is also a great selection of hot appetizers, such as Tempura and Miso Cod, and classic kitchen entrees.
Warm and Professional Service: The staff is known for being warm, attentive, and knowledgeable. The service, particularly at the sushi bar, is part of the overall experience, with chefs often interacting with guests.

Choosing Sushi Ryusei is about prioritizing a truly authentic and high-quality sushi experience. For New Yorkers who have tried many sushi spots, this restaurant is a "hidden gem" that delivers on its promise of excellence. The single most compelling reason to choose Sushi Ryusei is its omakase. The quality-to-price ratio is considered by many to be an "excellent value" for the level of fish and artistry you receive. The omakase dinner, especially when seated at the sushi bar, is a personalized culinary journey where you can witness the skill of a master chef up close and personal.
However, if omakase isn't for you, the a la carte menu is just as impressive. You can build your own meal from a vast selection of nigiri, sashimi, and rolls, all made with the same fresh fish. The menu also offers something for everyone, whether you're craving classic comfort food like Chicken Teriyaki or are a sushi purist looking for a perfect piece of fatty tuna. While a lack of a sushi bar seat might change the service experience, the quality of the food remains consistent. For anyone seeking a top-tier sushi experience that feels both refined and welcoming, Sushi Ryusei is a destination that delivers an unforgettable meal that will leave you wanting to come back for more.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Sushi Ryusei is a hidden gem and an underrated treasure among omakase sushi restaurants. It has quickly become one of my top favorites. The fish is impeccably fresh, prepared with simplicity and precision, allowing the natural flavors to shine. Every piece was an absolute delight. The pricing is incredibly reasonable for the quality and quantity of sushi offered, making it an excellent value. I can't wait to return for another unforgettable experience! LOVED! :)
June 06 · Jamie LThe sushi bar was fully booked, so I was seated at a table instead. Unfortunately, sitting at a table doesn’t offer quite the same experience as the sushi bar. The service was slow and inattentive, and I didn’t appreciate the manager’s dismissive attitude. While it’s not entirely the restaurant’s fault—I should have booked much earlier to secure a better spot—it was a hard lesson learned, and I may not return.(Original)Went to celebrate my daughter’s big day with her! This is one of my favorite neighborhood restaurants. Master Chef Ohyama is a true sushi artist, crafting sushi that is both stunning and delicious. We always opt for the sushi omakase at the counter so we can watch him work his magic. Service was warm and attentive. If I ever won the lottery, I’d be here every week without question!
April 26 · Dora NobiHands down, this was the best food I’ve had in Midtown — top tier from start to finish. The Spicy Tuna was incredibly fresh and full of flavor. The Tatsuta Age was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, with a squeeze of lemon that brought the whole dish to life. The Salmon Yuzu Soy melted in my mouth — every bite was packed with rich, balanced flavor. The Chicken Teriyaki was also delicious, tender, and perfectly cooked. And let’s talk about dessert — I’m not usually a big cheesecake fan, but the Yuzu Cheesecake completely won me over. Light, citrusy, and refreshing. The drink recommendations were spot on as well.Haruki, the owner, personally greeted me when I walked in, which was such a warm touch. The service overall was excellent — the staff was polite, attentive, and genuinely welcoming.I work nearby and can’t believe I hadn’t discovered this place sooner. Highly recommended — I’ll definitely be back!
June 27 · MinaThis small classy Japanese restaurant is a hidden gem in the neighborhood. It is actually run by Japanese staff and sushi chef with attentive service and manner. We had age dashi tofu, tempura udon, karaage chicken, miso clam soup and sushi, and they were absolutely delicious and authentic. The sushi, in particular, was my favorite…. the freshness of the fish enhanced by the sushi’s rice warm subtle sweetness 😋They also have a pretty decent sake selection. This is now my go to Japanese restaurant in this neighborhood
June 17 · ChristineExtremely cozy atmosphere, phenomenal fresh sushi & salmon. Solid beverages and the tatsuya age & teriyaki chicken with rice were absolute flavortown worthy
