The very name of the restaurant, TAKUMI OMAKASE, points to its primary offering and what is truly worth choosing: the omakase experience itself. Omakase, which translates to "I leave it up to you," is a traditional Japanese dining style where the chef presents a series of dishes based on their expertise and the freshest seasonal ingredients available.
The signature offering, which has earned rave reviews, is the 15-course omakase. Diners consistently describe it as an incredible value, with each course being a hand-crafted work of art. The quality of the fish is consistently highlighted as "extremely delicious and fresh," with one reviewer mentioning how the King salmon "melted in my mouth like butter." The chefs' creativity shines through in their unique flavor combinations, such as the praised oyster appetizer with yuzu cream and salmon roe.
Beyond the signature course, the restaurant also offers a cheaper, off-menu omakase option for those looking for a slightly shorter experience. A key highlight that enhances the meal is the ability to communicate with the chef and customize your experience, such as adjusting the amount of wasabi to your preference. Guests also appreciate the rotating specials available after the main courses, providing an opportunity to try even more unique creations.
A truly standout feature is the inclusion of complimentary sake, a generous and surprising addition that adds to the celebratory feel of the meal. The attentive and friendly service, from both the chefs and servers, creates a warm and accommodating environment that makes every visit feel special. The cozy, intimate setting is perfect for solo diners looking to enjoy a peaceful and personal meal, as well as for those celebrating a special occasion.
In a city filled with expensive and often impersonal dining, TAKUMI OMAKASE offers a refreshing change. It combines high-quality ingredients, expert craftsmanship, and a welcoming atmosphere into an affordable package that is accessible to a wider audience. The entire experience is a journey of flavors, with each piece telling a story of the chef's dedication and skill. It's a place that will leave a lasting impression and have you eager to return.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Takumi Omakase is the best affordable choice for an omakase experience in NYC. They offer a $89 15 course omakase and a cheaper and a cheaper off menu omakase for slightly less and two less courses. Each hand crafted course is meticulously prepared in front of you and explained. Everything we tasted was extremely delicious and fresh. The flavors were unique and thoughtfully constructed with flavors and texture playing wonderfully together. You can ask for the amount of wasabi to be adjusted to your preference too. Takumi also offers complementary sake which was delicious.

May 20 · Cheryl WooHad a lovely omakase dinner. BYOB is the cherry on top. Chefs were knowledgeable and it’s definitely a fun date night spot. Favorite bites of the night were the hamachi appetizer with grape tomato and the unagi with foie gras. Already have recommended this to my friends!
