TAO Downtown Restaurant Introduce
### A Spectacular Escape: Welcome to TAO Downtown Restaurant
In a city filled with a myriad of dining options, TAO Downtown stands out not just as a restaurant, but as a full-sensory experience. Located in the heart of Chelsea, this Pan-Asian establishment is an immersive journey from the moment you step through its discreet red doors. The vast, subterranean space, designed to feel as if it has been recently unearthed, is a breathtaking fusion of ancient Asian aesthetics and modern New York City energy. With its stunning centerpiece—a colossal 16-foot Buddha statue that seems to float above a virtual koi pond—the ambiance is both enchanting and electric. For New Yorkers seeking a dining experience that is as much about the environment as it is about the food, TAO Downtown is an essential destination.
The restaurant’s atmosphere is a carefully crafted element of its allure. The space is dimly lit and features intricate details like dragon scale patterned screens and weathered brick walls with Chinese calligraphy murals. As you descend the grand staircase, the scale of the main dining room takes hold, and you become part of the vibrant, upscale crowd. This is a place where people dress to impress, and the air is buzzing with energy, making it an ideal setting for a celebratory night out, a romantic date, or a fun dinner with a group. While it can be loud, particularly later in the evening, this lively atmosphere is precisely what makes TAO a unique and memorable place to be.
TAO Downtown’s menu is as expansive and impressive as its interior. It offers a wide range of dishes from across Asia, from Japanese-style sushi and teppanyaki to Chinese dim sum and classic American-inspired comfort food with an Asian twist. The quality of the food is consistently highlighted by patrons, with many describing the dishes as absolutely delicious and full of flavor. The restaurant is also celebrated for its robust beverage program, featuring great cocktails, a curated wine list, and a strong selection of beers and teas. All of these elements—the stunning decor, the exceptional food, and the lively atmosphere—combine to create a dining experience that is truly unparalleled.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1My first time eating here was on 7/03/25, around 530pm; no reservation was needed but if you are planning on a later time make sure to make reservations.Approaching the entrance you are greeting by 2 red double doors that leads into a dimly lit foyer; this is where the true vastness and beauty of Tao will take a hold of you. When checking in with the hostess staff, you will be brought around the corner to thee best view/seating setup you can have for a dining experience. We sat on the couples seat on the stairs which added to the new experience for us. Our waiter (forgive me as I’m bad with names) was so pleasant and friendly to talk to. He walked us through the menu and was very sympathetic to my girlfriend’s allergies, suggesting dishes she can eat.I ordered the drunken lobster noodle dish and my girlfriend ordered a few appetizers because she wanted “finger” foods. Everything came out fast, fresh and very delicious. On top of the food I ordered the Lychee martini, some of the best I’ve tried. It was fresh, flavorful and pretty strong (bonus).Overall I would highly recommend coming here around the time they open for a more intimate/peaceful experience. A little later in the evening it will be much more lively and the atmosphere will be energetic.Thank you Tao for a great experience.
July 08 · BuenaJayExceptional food! Everything is absolutely delicious. We had the chicken gyoza, tuna tartare, shrimp tempura, Chinese broccoli, and coconut black bass. The service is a tiny bit chaotic, but nothing that should keep you away. The atmosphere is electric; lots of people who apparently put more time into their outfits than we did. Great for a date night or a night out with friends. If you’re a larger group of friends, it will be difficult to maintain a conversation given that the noise level is quite high.
August 18 · Lukas A.heard so many good things about this place so I decided to check it out for myself and it did not disappoint! food was absolutely delicious and super aesthetically pleasing as well! staff were also incredibly sweet and service was excellent! would definitely recommend!
August 22 · aléxandra mendesWe had an absolutely amazing experience at TAO Downtown! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was stunning — vibrant, elegant, and full of energy. The ambiance alone is worth a visit, but the food and service made it unforgettable.Every dish we ordered was beautifully presented and packed with flavor. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and made us feel truly welcome throughout the evening. It’s clear they go above and beyond to make sure guests have a great time.Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or just looking for a memorable night out, TAO Downtown is a must-visit.
June 22 · Tejal EkboteI came here to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday. The food, music, and atmosphere was great. My server Miguel knew the menu so well and was able to help with my shellfish allergy. I didn't felt rush because i wanted to enjoy the atmosphere. I tried not to order all at once, so i could have space on the table and not felt overwhelmed with all the food. The music got a little loud later which was fine to me. The same spot for the movie 'Kinda pregnant' starring Amy Schumer.
