★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Had some pretty high expectations for this place because I thought the concept was really cool and I love sandwiches - was overall okay. I only tried the mala tsangwich and the duck tsangwich. Both were decent - I think the flavors were there and the pairing of asian ingredients were great. But the meat was a bit dry and so was the pineapplebun which made it harder to enjoy. The service was also as good as it gets - since there’s been so much hype there’s a bit of a line and not much seating/waiting space. But they’re quick and kind about it! Have more to try on the menu but think it’s okay!
August 20 · MichelleVisited on a week day at noon.Believe I got unlucky cuz right before me was a huge online order - which by the way I was fine with because the owner communicated that it would take 20 minutes before I ordered. And I saw the owner communicating that to every customer behind me. Waited 30 minutes and got my order - was recommended to order online next time.Got the mala tsangwich. Honestly - the driest piece of chicken I’ve encountered (see photo). Also other reviews’ photos had way way thicker piece of chicken than mine…. ultimately the chicken is too thin and fried way too long. I want to believe that it’s not their usual standard and it’s only because they were overwhelmed by the huge order ahead. However, sad that mine looked so different from what I’ve seen from other google reviews/instagram posts.Still have a lot more items I want to try on the menu though - fingers crossed it’s better quality next time so I can edit my review. But for now - the chicken was so thin and dry that I cannot recommend it.
March 14 · Amy KomentoThis is really the new definition of Hole in the Wall. It's inspiring that such a small place makes such great food. It forces everyone including the ppl inside the small kitchen to focus only on the sandwiches 🥪 knowing that this is the hole in the wall gospel. The star 🌟 is the sandwich 🥪 no decor, no tables , you eat on the red bench. The sandwiches With influences from Japanese, Vietnamese, Chinese, Dominican, Puerto Rican, cuisine and more. I had the EGG & CHEESE ON AN EGG TWISTROLL and theEGG BANH MI PICKLED CARROTSIA DAIKON, CILANTRO, SRIRACHA & HOISIN ON A TOASTED HERO. The egg & cheese was delicious, warm and soft like a good Japanese sundo, the Vietnamese banh mi was full of flavors and crispy and spicy . 2 different cuisines 2 excellent sandwiches . A hole that is a whole 🙌🪬
August 25 · Amos NachumI had the mulberry sandwich and the duck hunt which is filled with chopped duck. Both were great. I'd go back for the mulberry anytime. Ham, pepperoni, MORTADELLA, arugula, Calabrian chili oil. Every bite was perfect. The thickness of the bread was spot on. Just enough to support the sandwich without overwhelming the goodness of the well crafted combination of ingredients. There are over 14 sandwiches and 9 breakfast sandwiches to choose from. I think I saw a weekly special sandwich on top of all of that. Each sandwich sounds amazing. I have to go back for the Muffaletta. The have 4 chairs on the sidewalk where you can sit and wait while your sandwich is being prepared. You can enjoy your sandwich around the corner at a table or park bench on Chrystie or Allen. This is a great spot. All of the ingredients on the sandwich were fresh and expertly prepared. They serve a BEC for the traditionalist and there's even a Tres Golpes, el que sabe, sabe (Those who know, knows). They're making magic inside of a small storefront. Support this place and help them grow into a bigger space!
April 22 · carlos borgesHonestly this might be my favorite sandwich shop in nyc. This spot is a hole in the wall literally. Serving a variety of sandwiches. Each one being unique. With influences from Japanese, Vietnamese, Chinese, Dominican, Puerto Rican, and more foods. I got the egg Bahn mi, French toast Sando with eggs & bacon, Mala Tsangwich, and the weekly special the Tripleta. Each sandwich felt like its own experience. Where the quality ranged from the bread, sauces, vegetables, meats, etc. They have both breakfast and lunch options to choose from. For a small shop they’re working magic in that kitchen. Shout out to Michael assisting me with everything.
