★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Walked in on a Friday night, had a 25 min wait. The edamame was a taste of Asian and Western fusion, I was a little surprised at first but it was delicious. The salad, I really LOVED their homemade dressing (as someone who hates salad dressing). The curry chicken wings were nice, really juicy but a little bit too salty. The matcha lemonade was great, not overly sweet like other places, and the waiter pours the matcha on top in front of me. To be honest, I enjoyed everything else more than the ramen, ironic cuz it’s a ramen place). The ramen is not bad, but just mediocre, so it didn’t really stand out from the others. The place is pretty popular so it was pretty packed and noisy, a little hard to hear people talk.
July 14 · Ka Wai Ng🍜 Really love the noodles here — they’re firmer and chewier than most ramen places, which is exactly the texture I’m into. The broth? So rich and flavorful, every sip feels like a warm hug. And whether it’s their regular ramen or the dipping noodles, they all hit the spot.don’t miss their signature fried chicken. Crispy, juicy, addictive. Trust me on this one.
August 13 · E. YWe came across Tonchin while looking for Michelin starred or recommended restaurants in NYC. The moment I saw the Tonkotsu, I placed the reservation. We went last Thursday around 12:45pm for lunch. The wait, even with the reservation, was roughly 10 minutes, so not terrible. We each got the Chashu rice roll, Tonkotsu Ramen, and we shared the Curry Cheese wings along with the Gyoza. We spoke with the wait staff and found out that the restaurant originated in Ikebukuro, which made a lot of sense.Gyoza - Very traditional in flavor, reminded me of Gyoza in Tokyo. The shape is different than the traditional pleated style but the flavor remained wonderful. 8/10Curry Cheese Wings - These were delicious. Brought to a perfect crisp, the skin was beautifully coated with the Japanese style curry powder and sprinkled with what appeared to be Parmesan cheese. Incredible overall and a pairing I hadn't considered before. A great way to elevate a classic dish. 9/10Chashu Rice Roll - A unique take on Onigiri, maybe not perfect for delivery to the mouth, but allows significantly more filling (or in this case topping) to be included. The Chashu was delicious with a good amount of spice due to the spicy mayo. Some may find it "spicy", personally it was a 4/10 for spice which is exactly where I like my spice, with tons of flavor. 9/10Tonchin Classic Tonkotsu - This was the closest ramen I've had in this country to traditional ramen in Japan. I don't say that lightly. The creamy texture of the broth, the perfect firmness of the ramen noodles, and the jammy egg cooked to perfection. If I had one complaint it would be that it didn't include thick sliced Chashu and rather had 3-4 thin slices. But the Chashu was incredibly falvorful so it didn't really matter. Not a drop was left in the bowl. Highly recommend if you want authentic Tonkotsu. 10/10Overall a wonderful blend of traditional Japanese ramen with some hints of elevated NYC dining. And with a lunch menu that gets you a rice roll and ramen for $27, the price is more than reasonable. Can't recommend enough.
July 15 · Kenneth IronsWe walked in on a Sunday night around 7.45pm and had a 30 minute wait. The tonkotsu ramen and tebasaki wings were the standout dishes for us, but everything else was also delicious. The tonkotsu ramen was one of the best bowls of ramen we’ve had outside of Japan and the seasoning on the wings was so moreish and had us licking our fingers to make sure none of it went to waste. If you’re getting the bingsu for dessert, note that it’s massive and definitely something that’s meant to be shared. We recommended this place to a friend who also loved it.
July 05 · Maddie BuiI had the tonkotsu ramen. The taste was not bad but 3 of us agreed it was way too salty, to the point that it was difficult to eat towards the end. Also didn’t really like the noodles. The one who had the spicy ramen said even packaged instant ramen is better. It’s not terrible but I’m not sure how this place is Michelin.
