When you visit Uncle Ray's Chicken Rice, the Hainanese chicken rice is undoubtedly the main event and what is most worth choosing. The "Duo Chicken Rice" is an excellent choice, as it allows you to sample both the "incredibly soft, juicy, and tender" poached chicken and the "flavorful and well-marinated" roasted chicken. Both are served with fragrant, seasoned rice and a side of soup, making it a complete and satisfying meal. The accompanying sauces, especially the chili and minced ginger sauces, are essential and add a perfect burst of flavor.
Beyond the signature chicken rice, several other dishes have received rave reviews and are worth trying. The "Trio Combo Chicken Rice," which includes a mix of poached, roasted, and char siu pork, is a great option for those who want to try a bit of everything. The char siu is noted for being "savory with a touch of sweetness." For a truly unexpected treat, the "Coffee Pork Ribs" are a must-try. One reviewer was surprised by how "tender" they were and loved the "subtle bitterness in the aftertaste" from the coffee marinade. The "Hainanese Pork Chop" is another crowd-pleaser, praised for being crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Even the "Shredded Chicken Porridge" has won over skeptics, with a reviewer stating they "genuinely enjoyed the chicken porridge here!"
Finally, don't miss the side of "Kailan (Chinese Broccoli)," which is topped with fried shallots and adds a fresh, tasty vegetable balance to the meal. The combination of well-executed classic dishes and surprising, delicious menu items makes Uncle Ray's a place where you can confidently order anything and know you'll get a high-quality, authentic, and satisfying meal. It’s a spot that truly delivers on its promise of being "the best Hainanese chicken rice in NYC."

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Dare I say, this might just be the best Hainanese chicken rice in NYC, and I say that with good reason.I had the chance to chat with the owner Raymond Kiang when he was still working at Lou Yau Kee. He's been a consultant for the popular Hainan Jones and was formerly the chef at Lou Yau Kee--two of the highly rated hainanese chicken spots in the city. He shared how he helped bring authentic Hainanese chicken to the world (incl Hong Kong!).*Trio Combo Chicken Rice $22It sounds like one dish, but it is a complete meal as the set includes a mix of poached, roasted chicken and char siu, seasoned rice, soup and three dipping sauces. Every single component was well-executed, even the soup was so flavorful. The chicken was incredibly tender, and the char siu was savory with a touch of sweetness. I especially loved the chili sauce and the minced ginger sauce.*Coffee Pork Ribs $12I didn't expect the pork rib to be that tender! It easily fell off the bone, making it effortless to enjoy. The coffee marinade added a subtle bitterness in the aftertaste, coated in a sticky glace of sweet and savory five-spice seasoning.*Shredded Chicken Porridge $12I usually don't like congee, but I genuinely enjoyed the chicken porridge here! That's saying a lot. The shredded chicken was tender, and I loved the subtle aroma of sesame oil. Surprisingly, I'd happily order this again.*Kailan (Chinese Broccoli) $10
August 17 · Ruby ChanIf you’re looking for delicious Singaporian chicken rice, Uncle’s Ray Chicken Rice is a spot you should definitely check out! I had the Duo Chicken Rice, which comes with both poached and roasted chicken. The poached chicken was incredibly soft, juicy, and tender — so good that I ended up ordering an extra half chicken to enjoy even more! The roasted chicken was flavorful and well-marinated, though the skin wasn’t crispy — it had a softer texture that still paired nicely with the fragrant rice, savory soy-based sauce, and warm soup on the side.We also tried the Hainanese Pork Chop, which was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. And the Kailan (Chinese broccoli), topped with fried shallots, added a fresh and tasty veggie balance to the meal.Everything looked and tasted great. If you’re craving Singaporian-style comfort food, Uncle’s Ray is definitely worth a visit!
April 26 · LilyAlice STCame here for lunch with some friends, after we'd heard about it on social media. It was very good and quite authentic (speaking as a Southeast Asian)! The chicken rice was very good and the coffee ribs were excellent. My friend thought the chicken congee was some of the best they've had in the city. The only ding is that you have to walk through the kitchen to use the bathroom (then again, it's Hell's Kitchen -- all the restaurants are very tightly configured). Great meal; would definitely come back!
August 05 · LL CHighly recommended!!The moment I first step into the restaurant, the familiar aroma brought tears to my eyes. Before my food was presented, comments from the next table was “sensational”, “wow”, “amazing”. Indeed so. It was taste of home, legit taste of Singapore. Their chilli sauce packs a punch! Along with home-made dark soya sauce and ginger, perfectly compliments the tender poached and roasted chicken. The rice had just the right texture and fragrance. So was the umami cabbage soup! I don’t even find cabbage or tofu in the accompanying soup in Singapore!Oh, did I also mention how I love the Hainanese pork chop? It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside yet not oily neither did it lose its shine and become soggy when it turned cold. Everything was super duper yummy~Definitely a 6-stars staple joint to visit again and again!
April 19 · Ting YIf you’re craving an authentic taste of Singaporean comfort food, Uncle Ray’s Chicken Rice hits the mark. I ordered the Roasted Chicken Rice. The chicken is tender, juicy, and served with garlic chili, dark soy sauce and ginger paste. Paired with fragrant, flavorful rice cooked in chicken broth. Every bite brought me closer to being home in Singapore. The portion is generous, and the flavors are well-balanced without being overly salty or greasy. Service is warm and fast, making it a great go-to whether you’re dining in or taking away. If you’re familiar with Hainanese chicken rice, Uncle Ray’s is both nostalgic and satisfying. If you’re new to it—this is a great place to start. Can’t wait to be back!
