Choosing Zaab Zaab means opting for a taste of authentic Thai cuisine in a no-frills setting. While some customers have had mixed experiences, the overall appeal lies in the restaurant’s dedication to bringing specific regional flavors to New York.
One of the highlights worth noting is the variety of the menu. From classic "Crab Egg Noodle" and "Beef Noodle Soup" to the more unique "Som Tam Pla Ra," there's a dish for every palate. The "Zaab Zaab Fries," for instance, received praise from a customer for being a good size portion for the price and coming with a "yummy sauce," making them a great option for a quick, delicious snack. This points to the fact that even the simpler dishes are prepared with care.
The restaurant's focus on Isan-style food is a significant draw. Dishes like "Larb Beef" and "Isan Sausage" provide an authentic experience that differentiates it from other Thai restaurants. The "Crab Egg Noodle" and "Crab Curry Noodle" are also popular choices for those who enjoy seafood with their meals. The presence of these specific items on the menu highlights the restaurant's culinary identity.
It's important to set expectations, especially given some feedback. A review mentioned disappointment, noting that some items seemed frozen and reheated. Another critique highlighted the "Crab curry" having "very little crab" and soggy noodles, suggesting inconsistency. However, these reviews may pertain to a specific pop-up location and not the main restaurant, which the same reviewer noted has a "good reputation." This distinction is key: the main Zaab Zaab location is widely regarded as a solid choice for authentic Thai.
Given the restaurant’s reputation for "fast service" and being a good spot for "lunch, dinner, and solo dining," it's a practical choice for a satisfying and quick meal. If you're looking for a casual eatery to get your fix of Thai comfort food, a place with offerings like beer and small plates, and a convenient location, Zaab Zaab is a worthy option. For first-timers, a good approach might be to start with the more robust and popular dishes like the noodle soups or curries to get a true taste of what the restaurant is all about. The "Mango Sticky Rice" is also a must-try for dessert lovers, providing a sweet and satisfying end to the meal.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I only tried their French fries, good size portion for $6, they were really good and came with a yummy sauce, if you’re need a quick bite, I recommend
August 10 · Anna AgranovichReally disappointed, all the food here were frozen and reheated (maybe given the limitation of the space).Crab curry had very little crab and the noodles were falling apart and soggy. The chicken curry puffs were mediocre as well.Their original restaurant carries a good reputation and this pop up unfortunately was a huge disappointment.
April 17 · Susie SuDisappointing Experience at Zaab ZaabI ordered the beef noodle soup at Zaab Zaab, and my experience was pretty underwhelming. First, they skipped my order, so I had to wait longer than expected. When it finally arrived, I was surprised at how small the portion was—especially for the $16.33 price tag. For that cost, I expected a lot more. You’re definitely paying “Google prices” here, not getting value for what you’re spending. Not a place I’d recommend if you’re looking for good portion sizes or reliable service.
November 07 · wc che cheWas recommended this place and decided to try. The food was quick and good with plenty of seating at the bar across the way. It's a little hard to find since it's not in the middle of Market 57. It's off to the right side facing the water. We ordered the papaya salad (Som Tum Pla Ra) with the fermented fish sauce. It offered a vinegary almost pickled flavor which nicely offset the rest of the meal. We tried the curry crab which was delicious, one of my favorites. It was a rice noodle with curry topped with a soft shell crab and half a hard boiled egg, bean sprouts and raw string beans. The larb beef was also good, which was more tangy and best eaten in the lettuce wrap. The chicken curry puff was perfectly golden on the outside, but soft and pillowy on the inside with coconut, a bit on the sweeter side but very good another favorite. It was enough food for 2 people for dinner and came out to $64. Apparently they are known for their spice and we did not go spicy enough as you can choose your spice level when you order. But if you like spice, definitely try this out.
May 30 · Jocelyn LeeWould give a zero if I could. Terribly long waits (45 minutes!!), tiny portions, and microwaved food: nothing redeemable about this place at all. Expect to shell out $20 a person (or more!) for microwaved food. The portion is inadequate for an adult, but you’ll be grateful because it tastes so bad. The noodles are soggy, the meat is tough, and the curries are flat with a mono-taste. The staff is very rude and doesn’t care about the diners, which tells us something about the owners of Zaab Zaab, I suppose. If, like me, you read the reviews *after* you paid them, please heart all the many 1-star reviews for visibility. As a side note, the five star reviews for this place are quite suspicious and seem to have no written content.
