Zero Otto Nove Introduce
Introduction / Overview
In a city brimming with Italian restaurants, finding a place that offers an authentic, transportive dining experience can be a true delight. Zero Otto Nove, located in the heart of the Flatiron District, is one such establishment. The name, which translates to "089," is the telephone area code for Salerno, Italy—the hometown of Chef and owner Roberto Paciullo. This simple detail sets the tone for a restaurant that is deeply rooted in the traditions and culinary heritage of Southern Italy. Far from a stereotypical Italian-American eatery, Zero Otto Nove is a genuine trattoria that brings the rustic charm and exceptional flavors of Salerno to the streets of Manhattan.
The atmosphere at Zero Otto Nove is a significant part of its appeal. The space is designed to resemble a cozy Italian courtyard, with a warmth that makes it perfect for a variety of occasions, from a romantic date night to a lively group dinner. A key feature is the wood-burning brick oven, which was imported directly from Naples and sits as a centerpiece, a testament to their commitment to traditional techniques. While their pizzas are a major draw, the menu is extensive, featuring a full range of antipasti, pastas, and second courses. The dishes are designed to be both comforting and refined, with a focus on fresh, high-quality ingredients. Zero Otto Nove has earned a reputation for its authentic flavors and its ability to make diners feel as though they've taken a short trip to Italy, all without leaving the city.

What is worth choosing
While some reviewers have had mixed experiences with certain dishes, there are several compelling reasons why Zero Otto Nove is a place worth choosing for your next Italian meal in New York. The most notable highlight is the pizza. The Neapolitan wood-fired pies, with their light, puffy, and slightly charred crust, are consistently praised as some of the best in the city. The use of high-quality ingredients, like San Marzano tomatoes for their sauce, ensures an authentic and delicious experience. The pasta dishes, particularly the "Rigatoni Salernitana" and the unique "Radiatori in Cartoccio," which is cooked in tinfoil, are also standout items that showcase the restaurant's commitment to regional specialties. While one reviewer found the pasta underwhelming, many others have found the food to be exceptional and full of flavor. The meat and fish dishes, such as the "Bistecca Alla Salernitana" and "Branzino Aqua Pazza," also offer a taste of traditional Southern Italian cuisine that can be hard to find elsewhere.
Beyond the food, the service and atmosphere are major factors that contribute to a positive experience. Multiple reviews highlight the staff as "nice and welcoming," "polite and attentive." The service is noted for being excellent, which can significantly enhance a dining experience. The ambiance, described as "warm and welcoming" and "cozy," makes it a comfortable spot for any occasion. The restaurant is a great choice for both solo diners and large groups. The beverage program, with its reasonable wine prices and great cocktail list, is also a notable feature that adds value to the meal. While some have found the energy to be "flat" on an off-day, this can be a matter of personal preference. The consensus is that the pizzas are a must-try, and the friendly, attentive service makes it a pleasant place to be. For anyone looking for an authentic taste of Southern Italy with a focus on high-quality pizza and a cozy atmosphere, Zero Otto Nove is a worthwhile destination.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Had high hopes for Zero Otto Nove, but overall it was just an average experience. The service was good and the staff were really nice and welcoming, which I appreciated, but the food didn’t live up to expectations. We had the eggplant and zucchini appetizer, and it honestly tasted more like a lasagna than a fresh, veggie-forward starter. The pasta came with tiny clams that didn’t have much flavor, and the dish just felt underwhelming overall. Also, the vibe was pretty flat so no real energy or ambiance, not the kind of place you’d want to hang out. Maybe we caught it on an off day. Decent service, but the food and atmosphere didn’t quite land.
July 29 · AzzamService here was excellent. Everyone was so polite and attentive. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, making it a comfortable spot to enjoy a meal. Our group of five ordered a salad, three pastas, and two pizzas. We especially loved the pizzas, which were flavorful and well-made, but the pastas felt a bit too simple and could use more depth of flavor. The wine and cocktail prices are very reasonable, which was a nice surprise. Overall, we had a great time here, and I would definitely come back for the pizzas.
August 10 · Penny FunAmazing food, great service, and unique looking restaurant! Love the details of the building and especially how spacious it is! I was able to make a reservation a few hours prior to my desired time which was very convenient as well. We ordered the Diavola pizza, fettuccine in cartoccio, and the grilled calamari and shrimp; everything was delicious! Also, the server separated everything onto our plates for us as my husband and I split everything.
June 24 · Monique FAmazing food, extremely kind staff, warm, inviting setting. Yummy margaritas, not too sweet. Sort of looks feels like you’re in a cave, inside the restaurant. Very cool. Emailed them to make a reservation as didn't see availability on opentable and they were able to fit us in without issue. Wish I got more photos of the food and drinks but it was a really good experience. A bit warm inside and the chairs weren’t super comfortable but otherwise, a really nice evening!
February 16 · Emily FligelOverall the food was good but it’s not the best Italian in the city. We ordered a pizza, seafood soup and salad. The pizza we had was very different as it’s base was squash and it was a sweet and savory combo. The seafood pasta was very fishy and although it was flavorful the dish lacked luster. I thought overall the pricing was fair but this restaurant wasn’t a place I would be coming back to.
