What is worth choosing at Avra 48th Street is its dedication to authentic Greek flavors and a high-end dining experience. The menu is a journey through Greek cuisine, with a strong emphasis on fresh fish. A definite must-try is the whole-grilled sea bass (Loup De Mer), which, as one reviewer noted, is cooked to perfection—moist, fatty, and balanced. The accompanying dishes, such as the Avra Chips and the variety of spreads, are also highly praised and provide a delicious start to the meal. The classic Greek Salad, though priced at a premium, is known for its fresh ingredients. The "From the Land" section also offers great choices for those who prefer meat, with options like Grilled Lamb Chops and Prime New York Strip. The cocktail and wine lists are another reason to visit, as they are curated to perfectly complement the Mediterranean flavors. The fast service is a highlight, ensuring a smooth and efficient meal, which is appreciated by those with busy schedules. The overall atmosphere—described as cozy, romantic, and upscale—is a key part of the experience. It creates a great setting for a special dinner or celebration. However, it is also important for customers to be aware of a few things. The pricing is on the higher end, reflecting the quality of the ingredients and the prime location. While many people have overwhelmingly positive experiences, one customer review detailed a very negative and disrespectful encounter with the staff and manager, including issues with the quality of a dish and a refusal to offer a refund. This kind of experience is a serious concern and a potential point of caution for new diners. It suggests that while the restaurant can provide an incredible experience for some, there may be inconsistencies in service. For a place that positions itself as a top-tier establishment, a "subpar" dish and a "blatant disregard" for a customer's concerns, as described in the review, are significant issues. The review highlights that the perceived lack of care felt "targeted" and "discriminatory," which is a severe allegation that should be taken into consideration by potential patrons. Ultimately, what makes Avra 48th Street a compelling choice is its potential to offer an exceptional culinary experience. The fresh, authentic food and sophisticated atmosphere are undeniable draws. For those willing to navigate the upscale price and the possibility of varied service experiences, it can be a truly memorable meal. The positive feedback from many customers suggests that when the service and food align, it is a fantastic Greek dining destination in New York City.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Free, unlimited pita and hummus starters with the most heavenly hummus I have ever tasted. The sea bass was perfectly cooked (moist, fatty, and balanced) with a tomato sauce that gently complimented the natural flavors of the fish. The atmosphere here is great and the servers take their jobs seriously
August 17 · Really QueenDiscriminatory and Disrespectful Experience – Do BetterAs a person of colour who has visited New York for years, I’ve never encountered such blatant disregard and uncomfortable energy in a restaurant—until today. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was off. Staff members gave me dismissive looks and carried themselves in a way that made it clear I was unwelcome. Their interactions with me were brief, cold, and awkward—completely unlike what I’ve experienced in any other NYC dining establishment. To make matters worse, the food was subpar. My husband ordered a greek salad with an added chicken portion, which arrived rubbery, overcooked, and oddly, without any lettuce. When we raised our concerns with the manager, instead of offering support or even basic courtesy, he looked at me dismissively and asked, “So what would you like me to do about it?” When I requested a refund for the chicken, he flatly refused and walked away.Having worked in hospitality for over 15 years, I know the difference between a mistake and a complete lack of care. This experience was not just disappointing—it felt targeted. There was no attempt to make things right, and the manager’s attitude made it clear our concerns were not taken seriously. For a place that claims to be highly rated, this was beyond unacceptable. If you’re a person of colour, I would strongly caution you before visiting this establishment. No one deserves to be treated this way.
August 03 · LindaPlace is alot bigger inside than looks outside. Bread and hummus on the house was delicious - their olive oil has that perfect kick. Had the grilled chicken, octopus, calamari, oyster mushrooms and Chilean sea bass souvlaki and all of it was prepared, served and tasted to perfection. Great ambiance. Servers were on top of everything. Personally love it when any and every member of the staff knows exactly what is in any and every dish you have questions about. Don’t pass them up.
May 05 · Fatima SkornjanThe brunch was delicious and they also offer a prix- fix menu for lunch. Great selection for the price!
August 20 · Irene LitsasLove this rest. Fresh food, good service & very spacious with 2nd floor. Accessible to all attractions just across radio city. Our waiter was very nice & attentive, one of our friends came late & her food was served already. He recommended to keep it so it will ve warm. Never encounter such a nice gesture in other rest. Price is reasonable too for a prix fixe menu considered its in midtown, highly recommend this place.
