Perfect, cozy, traditional NY Deli food except better because it’s vegetarian! Excluding fish, which is pretty much my NY family’s definition of vegetarian too. Almost immediate service and later hours then you’d expect make this the perfect place to go if you don’t want cook but don’t want to make an ordeal of eating out. You get to play it like it’s 1950 at a very traditional NY deli counter and get all the Eastern European comfort foods like knishes, borscht, pierogi, fresh-baked challah, and blintzes. Also all the old favorite drinks like egg cream. Always satisfying and always tastes fresh and comforting.

B & H Dairy opened in 1938 and has been serving consistently delicious Eastern European comfort food ever since. It’s a vintage style, dairy kosher vegetarian lunch counter that’s open late. This place has been a favorite of mine for the last 17 years.I love the mushroom and sauerkraut pierogis. They are stuffed so full of well-seasoned sauerkraut and mushroom, you won’t believe they stayed together, but they always do. Pierogis come fried or boiled and with cheese, potato, or spinach and feta. They are served with sour cream or grilled onions - pay the extra $1.50 and get them both.The borscht (usually served hot or cold) is perfectly balanced - sweet, sour, earthy. All the soup is great, really.The challah has crispy edges and is fluffy in the center - slightly sweet, rich and just the right amount of salt, best served warm with butter. If you take it home, make sure to warm it up in the oven.The stuffed cabbage is Eastern European comfort food at its best. The filling has a deep flavor, topped with tomato sauce that is both slightly bitter and sweet.Finish your meal with a blintze - my favorite is cherry.I recommend eating in because the environment is fun, relaxed, and everything is better hot off the grille. They have a few tables outside, as well. The place is small, so if there’s not a seat, take out is still amazing - see photos.They always have daily specials and a fresh juice bar. While it’s listed as a vegetarian place, you will find fish on the menu that is clearly labeled.

-The narrowest restaurant in the world but who cares?-Hearty food. Fresh and delicious stuffed cabbage. Soups here are soooo good, especially Mushroom Barley which served with delight side bread.Been coming here for the past 25 years and its consistency is always there.

Soup is SOOO good. The lentil soup and the mushroom barley soup are the best I’ve had in the city (and I’m a soup fanatic). Very homemade tasting, perfectly flavorful and nourishing. Love that there’s so many different size options to choose from too. Vegetable soup is pretty good too- love all the cabbage and clean taste.
