Bacaro Introduce
Tucked away on a quiet, winding street in the Lower East Side, Bacaro offers New Yorkers a truly authentic escape. This Italian restaurant is a hidden gem that feels like a discovery from the moment you step inside. The name "Bacaro" is a nod to the traditional Venetian wine bars, or "bacari," which are known for serving small plates called "cichetti" alongside an excellent glass of wine. This establishment beautifully captures that Venetian spirit, creating an atmosphere that is at once cozy, romantic, and effortlessly trendy. The ambiance is key to its charm; with soft lighting and a rustic, exposed-brick interior, it's a place that feels a world away from the bustling city streets.
Bacaro is a perfect destination for various occasions. It's a popular choice for a date night, with its intimate and romantic downstairs cellar space often feeling like a private hideaway. It’s also an ideal spot for a group of friends, with large communal tables that invite conversation and shared dining. As a proud women-owned business, Bacaro contributes to the rich diversity of the New York City food scene. It’s also identified as an LGBTQ+ friendly and transgender safe space, fostering a welcoming environment for everyone. This inclusive and inviting atmosphere, combined with a menu of traditional Italian comfort food, makes Bacaro a beloved local spot for both New Yorkers and tourists alike.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Overall rating: 4.5Super popular Italian place that seems to be best for group of friends or a date. Very tight on the main floor, but the bottom floor seems super romanticI went with a group of 6 and the underground feeling transported me. I had the duck cavatelli and it was good. But was it $$$ good. Eh. I’ve had better. The service was also a tad rough. They were very busy and it was hard to order, get a drink and close out. Not sure if this is the place for me.
August 10 · Olivia NA small restaurant that gives off a nice cozy ambiance. The food and drinks were good and reasonably priced. My spaghetti nero did not look like the photos but it tasted decent so I’m not complaining.
June 01 · L.My husband and I went for Valentine's day dinner to bacaro was nice I love the basement very cozy and warm romantic vibe appetizer was great the entre not so good maybe because of the steak was too fathy.
February 15 · iam ToussaintThis is one of the best Italian restaurants in the city. The food is fantastic. The fritto misto is a hit, and the eggplant parm is excellent. The salads are always fresh. Everything on the menu is good. The service has always been wonderful to me and my family. It’s a blessing to have a restaurant this good nearby. Many surrounding restaurants have wine lists that are heavily, if not entirely, focused on natural and organic wines. These are great for people who enjoy stemmy, funky, and fizzy wines. Bacaro, however, offers an extensive list of classic Italian wines, which is a nice change from the natural wine trend that has taken over the Lower East Side.
November 17 · carlos borgesI have been here multiple times but only ordered one dish: the squid ink spaghetti, it is the closest thing to the one in Venice. It was delicious. Will definitely come back for more. :)
