Tried the cured ham one at their stall in the Bryant Park Winter Village. The line was looong, and it took about 45 minutes to finally get the order. The staff was working as quick as possible though trying to keep up with the line. The price of 18USD for a sandwich with just melted raclette didn’t cut it for me. They said it comes with gherkins, mustard and spring onions but they barely put anything in the baguette. Wasn’t worth the hype for me. It just looks tempting is all. - Virinda Dembla Malik

What is worth choosing from this establishment is its unique and highly specific culinary offering. While New York is saturated with sandwich shops and a diverse array of food options, Baked Cheese Haus Raclette stands out for its laser-like focus on one exceptional product: the raclette cheese sandwich. The appeal isn't just in the taste, but in the entire experience. Watching the cheese melt and get scraped onto the bread is a spectacle in itself, a moment of culinary theater that heightens the anticipation. The quality of the core ingredient—the raclette cheese—is what makes the sandwich. It is a savory, earthy, and satisfyingly greasy experience that is unlike what you would find at a typical deli or sandwich counter. The simplicity of the menu is a benefit, as it allows the shop to perfect its main product. For many, the experience is also tied to the environment, particularly when they operate at a place like the Bryant Park Winter Village. There, the warm, cheesy sandwich becomes the perfect antidote to the cold weather, creating a memorable moment that goes beyond just a meal. However, it's also important for a customer to manage expectations. Some customer feedback has noted that the price point of around 18USD for a sandwich can feel high, particularly when compared to the amount of fillings like cured ham, which some have described as minimal. Additionally, a recurring theme in reviews is the long wait times, especially during busy periods. This is a testament to its popularity but also something a customer should be prepared for. Some reviews mention that the promised toppings like gherkins and mustard were barely present, leading to a sandwich that was overall a bit bland for some palates. This suggests that while the cheese is the highlight, the balance of flavors might not always meet everyone's expectations. The bread, while fresh, has also been mentioned as lacking the desired crunch for some. Despite these points, what is worth choosing is the experience of trying something different and indulgent. The raclette sandwich is not a complex creation, but a straightforward one that aims to deliver on a single, powerful promise: a satisfyingly cheesy, hot, and comforting bite. For those who love cheese and are curious about a unique street food experience, this is the main reason to give Baked Cheese Haus Raclette a try. It is an institution for a specific type of food, and for that reason alone, it is a culinary experience worth having in New York City.
