It's a spot that brings the rich, comforting flavors of Mexican street food to the city, all within a casual and welcoming setting.
Factory Tamal is a testament to the power of a focused and traditional approach to cooking. The owner, Fernando Lopez, is known for his dedication to making tamales from scratch, a time-intensive process that few other restaurants undertake. This commitment to quality is evident in every bite, from the fluffy and flavorful masa to the perfectly seasoned fillings. While the space may be small, the flavors are anything but, making it a beloved destination for a quick and satisfying meal. Whether you're a local in need of a new go-to lunch spot or a tourist looking for an authentic New York food experience, Factory Tamal is a place that delivers on its promise of deliciousness.

Factory Tamal stands out from other eateries with several key features that highlight its dedication to quality and tradition.
Authentic Tamales: The namesake of the restaurant, the tamales are a major highlight. They are made from scratch, with a dedication to the ancient Mayan process of nixtamalization, which results in a beautifully fluffy and flavorful masa. Options like the Mole Poblano with Chicken, Salsa Verdes with Chicken, and the vegetarian Rajas Con Queso showcase a variety of traditional and delicious fillings.
Unique Mexican Sandwiches & Tortas: Beyond tamales, the menu features a selection of Mexican-style sandwiches, or "tortas," that are praised by customers. Options like the Torta De Tinga and the Bowery Torta offer a flavorful and hearty alternative to typical sandwiches. The combination of ingredients, such as black beans, queso, and fresh avocado, makes for a satisfying meal.
Classic Comfort Food: The menu is built on a foundation of comfort food. From hot coffee and soups to Chips and Guacamole, the offerings are designed to provide warmth and satisfaction. The Torta Tamal, which is a tamal served inside a sandwich, is a perfect example of a unique and comforting dish.
Affordable and Accessible: The pricing is very reasonable, especially for the quality and authenticity of the food. It's a great spot for a quick and budget-friendly meal, making it popular with students and locals who appreciate value without compromising on taste.
Casual and Family-Friendly: The atmosphere is casual and welcoming. It's a place where you can feel comfortable bringing kids or simply enjoying a meal on your own. The focus on fast and friendly service adds to the easy-going vibe.

For any New Yorker seeking an authentic and delicious Mexican food experience, Factory Tamal is a clear choice. The main reason to visit is their singular focus on handmade, traditional tamales. In a city where many places use pre-made ingredients, the fact that Factory Tamal grinds its own corn to create a perfectly textured masa is a huge differentiator. This dedication results in a product that is praised for its "good flavor" and authenticity, making it a must-try for any tamal enthusiast.
Beyond the tamales, the restaurant is worth choosing for its diverse and flavorful menu. While one customer noted a sandwich might have had "to much mix greens and a little meat," this is not a common complaint and can be a matter of personal preference. The menu is expansive, offering a variety of salads, paninis, and tortas that provide a refreshing alternative to the standard fast-food fare. The unique tortas, with their flavorful combinations, are a standout. The "Torta De Tinga" with its chipotle chicken and black beans, or the "Torta De Longaniza" with its flavorful sausage and cheese, are hearty and delicious options that are hard to find elsewhere.
Finally, the combination of fast service, a casual atmosphere, and affordable pricing makes Factory Tamal a perfect choice for the New York lifestyle. It's the kind of place you can pop into for a quick and satisfying meal that feels special and authentic. The fact that it's a small business with a long history of serving the community adds to its charm. By choosing Factory Tamal, you are not just getting a meal; you are supporting a local establishment that truly cares about the quality and tradition of its food.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Decent spot for grab and go Mexican sandwiches and tamales. I had the option with longaniza and thought it was decent. Space is small so limited seating options are available.
January 20 · Rovik RobertThe Sanwich was good but to much mix greens and a little meat ! You don’t really taste the meet ! The tamal has good flavor but I think it was made in the morning that it was dry !
May 20 · JUAN CARLOS ROJASGlad I got to come here. The tamales and torts were perfect. I had a Tinga Torta and it was flavorful. Filled with jalapeños and sauce on the chicken that makes you smile with every bite. The tamales are moist and full of meat. They are so delicious and I would recommend anyone who wants a handmade tamale to come here.
December 03 · Orlando TrinidadExcellent paninis! The Black Forest ham has mozzarella, caramelized onions, and pickled jalapeños - absolutely delicious!! Don’t miss this little local spot
September 28 · Hunter CookThere is not much to this little hole in the wall except great service and awesome food.Cone for the tamales but stay for the tinga torta! If you are a breakfast person, I would argue there isn’t a better breakfast sandwich in town.Let me say this…there isn’t a reason not to come and try something. You won’t be disappointed
