Golden Bowl Introduce
In the vibrant and ever-evolving landscape of New York City’s Chinatown, where new restaurants emerge and old ones change, there are a few cherished spots that remain steadfast, preserving the authentic character of the neighborhood. Golden Bowl is one such place. Tucked away on a side street, this no-frills, cash-only eatery is a true testament to the "old Chinatown" experience—a place where the focus is entirely on simple, delicious, and incredibly affordable homemade-style food. It’s a genuine hidden gem, a spot that locals and those in the know frequent for an honest and hearty meal. Golden Bowl isn't about trendy decor or a flashy menu; it's about comfort food that feels like it was made with care in a family kitchen.
The atmosphere at Golden Bowl is distinctly casual and unassuming. The charm of this place lies in its simplicity. As one reviewer noted, it harkens back to a time before gentrification, offering a humble and authentic experience that feels miles away from the city's more tourist-heavy spots. The food is often served by a friendly staff of older ladies who, as a customer mentioned, may not speak much English, adding to the feeling of being in a genuine, community-focused establishment. It’s a comfortable space that’s good for solo dining or for groups and is even considered a place that’s welcoming for kids. The cozy ambiance invites you to slow down and enjoy a quick, satisfying meal that won't break the bank.
Golden Bowl is located at 51 Division St, New York, NY 10002, USA. This address places it in a slightly less-trafficked, but still easily accessible, part of Chinatown. Getting there is convenient via public transportation, as the area is well-served by several subway lines. For those navigating the city by car, it's worth noting that parking can be a challenge in this densely populated neighborhood, but the best approach is often to rely on public transit or to plan to walk a short distance from a nearby parking lot or street. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Golden Bowl harkens to the Chinatown before gentrification. It’s a very humble, no-frills spot where food is ladled by old ladies, hardly any English is spoken, and there are no tourists. $8.50 (tax included) gets you 4 dishes and rice. There are many choices, including a lot of vegetarian options. Canned soda is $1. Cash only.
March 21 · Augusto PaulinoA real hidden gem tucked away on a side street. Months ago I walked by Golden Bowl and saw the hot foods in front of the window and told myself I'd come back to try. Yesterday I was in the area and decided it was time. They don't have a menu, just a selection of the owners home cooking from that day. For $7 you get a plate of rice and selection of 4 dishes. All are fantastic. If you're an adventurous eater and support mom and pop shops, this is the spot. And if you've ever been to a Chinese restaurant and saw a dish that you'd be curious to take a bite of, but can't justify paying $17 for a full service - this is the spot to try as much as your heart desires for a couple dollars.
March 22 · Steven Petrillo$8.50 for 4 choice & 1 soupGood variety. The value here is very good. For the bigger fried pieces, they give 2-3 pieces like the whiting fish, salmon fried bones, etc. For the shrimps, I have seen them give 4-5 pieces. Rice is plentiful for what they give (like two servings). I was able to split mine into two meals. The soup is a seaweed soup that is common in these cai pan places. There are 4ish small tables against the wall for eating.Overall, I would go again for the value/variety. Places in flushing with this concept are around $9-11 for 3 items & soup so I would say this is really good value. This place is close to the Flushing CT vans (IYKYK).
May 21 · Cris JPrice is very good! & I chose shrimp, fish and veggies came with white rice. There amwere so much food in one box & I ate it in 2 days.
August 06 · Sophia ChizucoStumbled on this place by window shopping and craving for some take out so decided to pickup a delicious looking dinner box with pork, chicken and some beef. Just point to what you want and have your cash ready and you are good to go. Didn't pickup any veggies as it wouldn't be a value at the $7 price point. With 4 meat items, some decent tasting rice and a nice hot cup of seaweed soup to wash down the saltiness, you will have a fulfilling meal. Just watch the bones as there seemed to be alot.
