Heidelberg Restaurant Introduce
In a city where dining trends come and go, some places stand the test of time, becoming true institutions. Heidelberg Restaurant, a beloved Upper East Side establishment, is one such place. More than just a German restaurant, it's a living piece of New York's history, preserving the rich German heritage that once defined its Yorkville neighborhood. It's a place where you can relax, share a meal with friends, and enjoy a pint of beer in an ambiance that is a world away from the fast pace of the city outside.
The core of the Heidelberg experience lies in its commitment to authentic German food and drink. The menu is a feast of traditional favorites, with an emphasis on hearty, flavorful dishes. The "Sausages" section offers classics like Bratwurst and Bauernwurst, while the "Entrees" menu features the rich and tender Beef Gulasch and the iconic Sauerbraten. However, it's the "Schnitzel" that truly shines, with patrons raving about the Wiener Schnitzel's "perfect crunch" and flavorful veal. A customer review highlights the dish, noting how a side of Jägerschnitzel gravy and Spätzle can elevate it to a divine culinary experience. Another must-try is the Gebratene Ente (roast duck), which one reviewer described as "absolutely divine," praising its fall-off-the-bone tenderness and rich flavor. The generous portions and high-quality ingredients make every dish a satisfying and authentic treat.
As a bar, Heidelberg is in a league of its own. It's a destination for beer lovers, boasting a great selection of German beers, many served in traditional liters and pints. The staff, known for their friendly service and excellent recommendations, can guide you through the various options, from a classic Pilsner to a unique raspberry weissbier. This focus on a superb beer selection, combined with a full bar offering cocktails, hard liquor, and a wine list, ensures that every guest can find their perfect drink. The bar itself is a central feature of the restaurant, a place for serious beer drinking and lively conversation, whether you're a local or a tourist. The cozy, historic vibe makes it a perfect place to linger over drinks and good company.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Nice restaurant with authentic German food. The interior decor brings you back in time. We ordered the Wiener Schnitzel and the Pork Platter and they were both delicious 😋 Oh, and they have a raspberry weissbier that was also great!
August 02 · PAmbiance (5/5): The décor has classic German themes throughout the restaurant. Liters and pints of German beers to try! We sat outside, where there were several outdoor dining tables with some fencing to provide some boundary between the street.Service (5/5): Danny, our server, gave us the best recommendations (and some customization). Strangely, our waters came after the meal but we were helped timely with our drink and food orders!Potato Pancakes (4/5): I loved how the pancakes were seasoned with the onion and garlic tones. I wished they were slightly thicker to get more of a crunch. It needed a little more salt but otherwise served with the apple sauce was my preferred option!Gebratene Ente (Duck) (5/5): This was absolutely divineeee! The duck was cooked to fall off the bone, so tender and packed with flavor. I wished there was more of the gravy that it was cooked in so I could dip everything in it. This is a must have.Wiener Schnizel (5/5): Per Danny’s recc, we added a side of the Jagerschnitzel gravy and subbed the potatoes with spatzle. Wow, the gravy really gives the bite some extra flavor. The breaded veal was amazing—perfect crunch, nicely flavored, and still delicious reheated. The portions were generous! The spatzle is a soft and buttery side that goes well with the whole dish.Everything was great and can’t wait to come back!
April 25 · Steph WGreat food+ big portion. The only downside is the space. It’s little bit small. Will be better not bring too many people with you. I had a 10 people gathering here but the space was too crowded for us. Overall will revisit here!
June 08 · 陳奕婷The space is quite compact, and the seating arrangements are not ideal for a long, relaxing dining experience. We ordered two brunch items—the sausage and the house sandwich—but found the quality to be unremarkable, not quite aligning with the restaurant’s 4.5-star rating. That said, I was looking for an authentic German restaurant, and this one felt German enough for me.
March 17 · sunny sureWas looking for a new German spot in the City after my son said he wanted schnitzel, of course it would be in Yorkville. Had a delicious dinner in a great atmosphere with lovely service from Kailyn. Definitely plan to come back and explore more of the menu!
