JAMROCK JERK Introduce
In a city as dynamic and diverse as New York, the best culinary experiences can often be found not in a traditional brick-and-mortar restaurant, but on the very streets themselves. JAMROCK JERK is a perfect example of this. As a well-known food truck, it has carved out a loyal following on the Upper West Side by bringing the bold, authentic flavors of Jamaica to the neighborhood. More than just a place to grab a quick meal, this Black-owned and women-owned business offers a genuine taste of the islands with its signature jerk dishes, which are prepared using traditional methods over a charcoal grill. It’s the kind of place that captures the spirit of a street-side eatery you might find in Kingston, serving up comfort food that is both deeply satisfying and refreshingly simple. While its reputation is built on its incredible jerked chicken and pork, the menu offers a range of options that cater to different tastes, making it a go-to spot for locals and tourists alike who appreciate an honest, no-frills approach to excellent food.
The experience at JAMROCK JERK is distinct from a typical restaurant, and understanding this is key to appreciating its appeal. The atmosphere is casual and trendy, a reflection of the vibrant street food scene that makes New York so unique. The aroma of spices and charcoal often fills the air around its location, drawing in passersby with the promise of authentic Jamaican flavor. However, the experience of a food truck can be subject to the whims of the day. As such, some reviews reflect a high degree of satisfaction, praising the food as "unbelievable" and noting that it’s prepared "just like it is in Jamaica." These patrons often highlight the delicious, freshly prepared, and authentic nature of the food. Conversely, there are also reviews that express disappointment, citing the chicken as "dry" and "flavorless." This duality is a part of the food truck reality; the experience can vary. For the discerning New Yorker, this means that while a five-star meal is within reach, it's also worth approaching the experience with an open mind, as the flavors and textures can differ from one day to the next. What remains consistent, however, is the commitment to serving up the classics of Caribbean cuisine.
The menu at JAMROCK JERK, while focused, is built on a foundation of popular and beloved Jamaican dishes. The star of the show is, of course, the jerk. Diners can choose between the classic Jerked Chicken and Jerked Pork, both of which can be ordered as a full meal with sides or as a meat-only platter. The flavors are described as perfectly seasoned and marinated, prepared over a charcoal grill to achieve a smoky profile. For those who prefer a different protein, the Stewed Oxtails are a rich and tender alternative, slow-cooked to succulent perfection. The sides are just as important to the meal as the main dish. The menu includes staples like Rice & Peas and Fried Plantains, which are essential companions to the savory meats. Additionally, the Mac & Cheese is a comforting and popular choice. For a lighter touch, there's a fresh salad option. The menu also caters to a range of dietary needs with a dedicated Vegan/Vegetarian platter, a combination of the delicious sides like rice & peas, fried plantains, and fresh salad. The drink options are also a highlight, with a wide selection of refreshing and fruity lemonades, including unique flavors like Mango, Guava, and Passion Fruit, which provide the perfect counterbalance to the rich and spicy flavors of the main dishes.
JAMROCK JERK's place in the New York food scene is also defined by its accessibility and services. While it operates as a mobile eatery, its primary location at 775 Columbus Avenue on the Upper West Side makes it a familiar and reliable spot for many. For locals, this location is a key landmark, and it's a great option for a quick bite before heading to one of the nearby parks or attractions. Parking is available in the form of paid street parking. The services offered, which are well-suited to the food truck model, include curbside pickup, no-contact delivery, and regular delivery and takeout options, making it incredibly convenient. The "dine-in" option at a food truck translates to enjoying your meal at a nearby bench, or perhaps a leisurely lunch in a park, which for many New Yorkers is an integral part of the street food experience. The business also offers catering services, allowing customers to bring the authentic flavors of Jamaica to private events and parties.

What is worth choosing
When deciding whether to choose JAMROCK JERK, it's worth considering what makes this place truly special. It's a genuine slice of Jamaican culinary tradition in the middle of a bustling urban landscape. While the reviews offer a mixed perspective on the food's consistency, with one person finding it dry and another calling it "unbelievable," this speaks to the unfiltered nature of an authentic street food experience. The high praise from a customer with extensive knowledge of Jamaican cuisine is a powerful testament to the authenticity and flavor that the food truck can achieve at its best. The menu is simple but effective, focusing on doing a few things exceptionally well. The jerk chicken and pork are the main draws, but the stewed oxtails and classic sides like Rice & Peas and Fried Plantains are just as compelling. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I ordered the jerk chicken here, and I was extremely disappointed. The chicken was dry, flavorless, and the skin was pale—not the crispy, charred skin you’d expect from authentic jerk. It tasted bland and downright unpleasant. This is not what jerk chicken is supposed to be. I will never go back, and I strongly advise others to think twice before wasting their money here. Very disappointing.
June 23 · MarieJamrock Jerk is the best food truck I have ever experienced in my lifetime. Not only is the food unbelievable! The service is all the way 5 star! Speaking from someone that has spent extensive time in Jamaica before it became Americanized many years ago. The food on this food truck is prepared just like it is prepared in Jamaica.I really could not tell the difference. Only thing missing was the coco bread, and rum punch....but if you're watching your figure, who cares about bread.... (Shrugs shoulders)Definitely check out this amazing food truck. They are in different locations throughout Manhattan. You will truly enjoy the freshly prepared, authentic Jamaican food.
October 18 · World VlogsPurchased my food at Court Street and Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn. I see there are numerous locations, so this is an established enterprise. First I would like to say the food is excellent. I just had a few suggestions: the top of the box does not stay closed. Your advertising on the box and bag, Will help the customer remember the name of the eatery. My suggestion is, the boxes and bags can be plain. A big sticky label, with the name, number and Gmail would be suffice. If possible there could be a perforated tear off card on the sticky label for the customer to keep for future reference. Your marketing is a nice touch, but so much money would be saved with using the label, that would keep the box closed and have all of the establishments info on the detachable card. I cannot wait to purchase my next meal! Also, the festival Dance Africa, is coming up Labor Day weekend in Brooklyn, a three day celebration, with vendors outside. I did mention this to the young ladies who served me, last Sunday! Good luck to your future!🥰
April 18 · Rolanda SmithI would go with the jerk chicken. The stew oxtail was packed, but too heavy and greasy. It was pricey but a lot of food. I like the jerk chicken the best.
June 17 · Shane S.Ox tail is good, very soft and juicy. Jerk chicken is a bit dry.
