John's Pizzeria of Times Square Introduce
## Introduction / Overview
In a city filled with pizzerias, John's Pizzeria of Times Square stands out not only for its exceptional pizza but for its truly unique and historic setting. This iconic restaurant is located inside a former Gospel Tabernacle Church, a 19th-century building that has been meticulously converted into the largest pizzeria in the United States. The interior retains much of the original church's grandeur, featuring high ceilings, beautiful stained-glass windows, and even chandeliers. This blend of history and comfort creates an atmosphere that is both cozy and awe-inspiring, offering a dining experience unlike any other. The restaurant is a women-owned business, a legacy started by Madeline Castellotti, who had the vision to transform this unique space into a pizza destination.
John's Pizzeria is known for its commitment to tradition, particularly its use of coal-fired brick ovens. These ovens, which have no thermostats and are operated by highly trained "pizza men," are the secret to their famous thin-crust, crispy pizzas. The ovens "season with age, making no two pizzas the same." The restaurant's popularity is evident by the crowds it draws, but the large space, which can seat over 400 people, is well-equipped to handle the rush. The service is consistently described as swift and friendly, ensuring that despite a typical wait time, the overall experience remains pleasant and efficient. It's a place where families, groups, locals, and tourists all come together to enjoy a slice of New York history and some of the city's best pizza.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Visited today at 5.30pm, and it was half empty. No queue, no issues, quick service. All was great! We were seated right in the middle, which was great, and had a brilliant view of everything going on.Ordered 2 large pizza for 3 of us and took lots home as they were huge! The food was quick and piping hot.No free refills on drinks, which is a shame, but we were given water upon arrival.Bill is slightly cheaper if you pay cash, around 5 bucks.Service was friendly and swift. Hit the spot after a busy day sightseeing with the family.Pizzas are around 34 dollars for a large, which is 8 slices.Highly recommend!
July 27 · Mrs FosterI found out about this restaurant in New York while planning my 5 days of New York vacation in Los Angeles. I decided to stop by at least once to have a good meal and find out if what was described and reviewed by others to be true.Warni g: The restaurant is crowded, pretty much at all times. But, after a typical 30-minute wait, I was escorted to a second level seating space. [I insisted to be seated upstairs for a bit more privacy]1. True: it is a converted church. The old church ceiling, the colorful windows, and the chandeliers are intact. Beautiful. Probably, there's only one of a kind on Earth.2. True: the food tasted delicious. Salad was fresh, the fried calamari was crispy, and the pizza was crispy and... great!!!.3. True: The service was good4. True: the restaurant is crowded and noisy....I didn't mind.If you are visiting New York, I recommend this place.
July 26 · Berge WassilianWe went to John’s after getting in late from a delayed flight. We got right in and had drinks and food within 20 minutes. The servers were kind of quick but friendly. I enjoyed the pizza ovens being within view. Salad was good, pizza was delicious and the building is beautiful. I liked that it was busy but we didn’t feel rushed. The inside is warm and stuffy, so just be prepared for that.
July 24 · Christina McClearyHad explored it in internet before going to NYC, and it was worth to visit, fantastic eatery serving exclusive thin-crust pizza in Times Square. The atmosphere in this old church building with views of pizza ovens is amazing & the pizza was the best, very flavorful and perfect crust! Not only did we get to watch all our food get made, the toppings were heavy, sauce just right, and crust was slight crisp without falling over. Loved everything and will definitely be back. my favorite-must-stop pizzerias in NYC!! John’s Pizzeria of Times Square is a must-visit for pizza lovers.
June 28 · Bhushan TimlaWhen we first arrived to the hotel, we asked one of the staff where to get the best pizza. He told us to go to John’s. We had no choice but to take his suggestion.Omgosh! As you can see I could barely get my phone out fast enough. The pizza was SO GOOD! The mozzarella was great, too!We loved it so much that we went back the next night.
