Kaki is an absolute must-try for anyone in New York City looking for an exceptional sushi experience without the exorbitant price tag often associated with high-end omakase. What makes Kaki truly worth choosing is the unparalleled combination of outstanding value, remarkable food quality, and genuinely personal service.
The core of the experience is the omakase menu itself. Diners rave about the freshness of the fish, with some pieces flown in directly from Japan, ensuring a superior taste and texture. The chef's artistry is evident in every course, from the delicate preparation to the unique flavor combinations that make each piece a standout. One customer was "blown away" by the "13 course sushi meal," calling it "the best meal ever" and noting how the chef's handling of the fish was "almost like a poetry." This level of artistry and attention to detail transforms a meal into a memorable event.
Beyond the food, the service at Kaki is what elevates it from a good restaurant to a great one. The staff's welcoming and attentive nature creates an atmosphere that is both intimate and fun. One reviewer was particularly grateful for the personalized attention given to their friend who was a first-time sushi diner, with the staff "explaining every piece in detail and even showing him pictures of the fish." This level of thoughtfulness and care is a testament to the restaurant's dedication to its guests and a major reason for its loyal following.
Furthermore, Kaki offers an incredible value that is hard to beat anywhere else in the city. The ability to enjoy a high-quality, multi-course omakase for such a reasonable price makes it a standout option. It debunks the myth that exceptional sushi must come with an exceptionally high cost. The cozy, trendy atmosphere makes it a great choice for various occasions, from a romantic date night to a fun solo dining adventure. For a truly memorable and delicious dining experience in New York, Kaki is a place you will want to return to again and again.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Upon entering this restaurant, it may appear empty, but don’t let that discourage you. The experience is truly exceptional. I visited on a Sunday evening, arriving a little before my 6:15 PM reservation to enjoy dinner with a friend. The intimate atmosphere and attentive service made for an outstanding experience, especially since we were the only guests in the restaurant for a while. We received personalized attention, and I can confidently say the service was excellent. Our waiter was friendly, engaging, and took the time to converse with us, making the evening even more enjoyable. The sushi was absolutely delicious. I’ve been to multiple Omakase experiences throughout New York, and I’m thrilled to add this one to my list of favorites. Since it was my friend’s first time trying sushi, we made the staff aware, and they went above and beyond by explaining every piece in detail and even showing him pictures of the fish each piece came from. I am so grateful for that level of thoughtful, personalized service.I will definitely be returning and highly recommend this spot to anyone seeking a fun, intimate, delicious, and memorable dining experience.
April 27 · Jessica OKaki was amazing. Chef Eric made the whole experience super fun and welcoming. The sushi was really fresh with fish flown in from Japan, and every course was spot on. Honestly one of the best omakase deals in the city — 15 courses for $85 is hard to beat. Definitely a place I’d go back to.
August 17 · Ryan WattsAmazing omakase, been to at least 20 omakase spots in NYC and this one has the freshest cuts of fish. Simply prepared, classic with subtle additions. Fun atmosphere, BYOB, highly recommend. 1 hr 15 min seating, $85 for several courses.
June 17 · Maria YuWhat an absolutely incredible experience. I wasn’t expecting to be so blown away. This place offers a true experience, it’s not just the quality sashimi that makes it so amazing. The people behind the counter providing the service are all lovely, which is the cherry on top. The most moody, cozy LES hole in the wall sushi spot you can possibly come across. 10/10, can’t wait to bring loved ones!
July 11 · Jasmine DavOut of all the budget sushi spots, this and shinn east are the top two. The king salmon appetizer and indian-stylen corn fritter with chopped fish on the inside were innovative and delicious. Furthermore, each sushi piece was delicious. Highlights were the fluke and fluke fin fat, the generous piece of scallop with truffle, and the soy black cod.The otoro, chutoro, and wagyu pieces were top notch as well.As of this review, still BYOB. Highly recommend!!
