Le Chêne Introduce
In the heart of the West Village, a new star has emerged on the culinary scene: Le Chêne. This intimate and stylish French restaurant brings a fresh perspective to traditional French cuisine, blending refined techniques with a modern, sophisticated twist. It’s the first solo project from the talented husband and wife team, Alexia Duchêne and Ronan Duchêne Le May, and it has already captured the attention of New Yorkers with its effortless charm and incredible food. Le Chêne isn't just a place to eat; it's a complete dining experience that feels both luxurious and welcoming, a true taste of Paris right here in New York City.
The ambiance is a key part of the experience. The space is described as cozy and trendy, with a design that is simple yet elegant. The art pieces on the walls, including an impressive Basquiat triptych, add a special touch and an artistic sensibility that sets it apart. The lighting is dim, and the dark wood paneling creates an intimate, almost cinematic atmosphere, making it a perfect spot for a date night or a special anniversary dinner. Despite its sophisticated feel, the restaurant doesn't feel stuffy or pretentious. It "doesn’t try too hard but nails every detail to make you feel like home," as one reviewer beautifully put it, highlighting the warm and genuine hospitality of the staff.
The menu is a masterful blend of classic French dishes and inventive creations. Customers rave about the food, with many claiming that every dish is "packed with flavor and beautifully presented." The "Amuse-Bouches" are a must-try, particularly the Sweet Shrimp Tartelette and the Uni French Toast, a dish so unique and delicious it's described as having "no words to describe" its flavor. The showstopper, however, is the "Spécialité De La Maison," the Pithiviers Terre & Mer. This puff pastry pie filled with pork farce and smoked eel is hailed as a dish that "completely stole the night" and is so good that one reviewer recommended using a side of fries to "mop up the Pithiviers sauce." The menu is a testament to the chef's technical precision and playful approach to French cooking, offering something truly special for even the most discerning palate.
Beyond the food, the beverage program is equally impressive. The restaurant boasts a "great wine list" with both French and other European offerings. The staff, particularly Ronan Duchêne Le May, is praised for their incredible knowledge and ability to offer perfect wine pairings. The cocktails are also a highlight, with one customer noting that the cocktails were "good" and a spritz was "bright and refreshing." The combination of an amazing menu, a thoughtful wine list, and a truly special atmosphere has led many to believe that Le Chêne is already a contender for a Michelin star, a testament to its exceptional quality and attention to detail.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I was waiting for few weeks to try Le Chêne after seeing the stories on Instagram and it finally opened in the West Village!!We tried the sweet shrimp tartelette (A Must to start), the uni French toast (No word to describe the Uni flavor paired to the Bone Marrow touch), green bean beignets (don’t skip the tarragon sauce!! I kept it to dip the fries later and it was marvelous), the œuf mayonnaise, crab thermidor, and finished with the Pithiviers, which completely stole the night! Honestly, ask for fries on the side and use them to mop up the Pithiviers sauce. It sounds simple, but it was magic. The vibe is relaxed, with amazing art pieces (incredible Basquiat triptych) the kind of place that doesn’t try too hard but nails every detail to make you feel like home.Cocktails were good (the spritz we started with was bright and refreshing), and we got amazing wine pairings recommandation thanks to Ronan ! Just ask him what works best with what you’re ordering. Trust him.If I could give six stars, I would. Le Chêne already feels like it could get a Michelin star. Just don't wait and go!!

May 23 · Paul PetreLe Chêne is one of those New York restaurants that you must go to just for the excellent service and experience alone! I must say the food was delicious as well! The aesthetic, attention to detail, and the authenticity of the French cuisine is superb. The location is also very well placed in the west village. My friend invited me to Le Chêne for drinks as she has built a great relationship with the restaurant. I was introduced to one of the restaurant owners, Ronan, as well as some staff. Everyone was friendly and really made the dining experience welcoming and exciting. First my friend and I had a special cocktail made by the owner that featured a cognac and I believe it was a French connection with black cherry cocktail and it was delicious. We also had the pâté en croûte, wagyu beef tartare, tuna tartare, potato chips, and bread. following this we had espresso martinis, dirty martinis, and a Chantilly to go with our chocolate tart dessert. We ended up being there for 4 hours although we intended on only being there for 2. Such a great time and I didn’t even remember to take pictures of everything. You have to add this to your list of places to try when in NYC!
August 17 · Tobias NewA spectacular new west village gem with excellent service, beautiful wines, and elegant but comfortable dishes. The yellowtail is not to be missed - a simple but exceptionally executed preparation that is so well balanced it should rank in the top ten dishes in New York at the moment. Le Chene will earn a Michelin star soon (the only real question is whether it will get two). This restaurant is hard to book already and that won’t change. I recommend visiting sooner than later!
May 24 · Lawson KuehnertWhat a special place! I had a wonderful time dining at the bar with Gavin who was very thoughtful and guided me through the menu for a truly memorable meal. Ronan came by to say hello and I really appreciated how intimate and warm the service felt, just like a dinner party which is never an easy feat to achieve in a city of millions. Each bite was complex and fun, from the Ouefs Mayonnaise - which I've never had like that before - to the Sea Bass with Scallop Quenelle and vin jaune (a sauce I am still lingering over in my mind). And I have to mention the beautiful design, plateware that makes you smile, and little details that stood out. Many thank yous for an exceptional evening!
