Melba's Grand Central Terminal Introduce
From the heart of Harlem to the bustling corridors of Grand Central Terminal, Melba’s brings a unique brand of Southern comfort food and hospitality to Midtown Manhattan. This outpost is a convenient and delicious extension of the legendary Harlem flagship, known for its warm, soulful cooking and equally warm customer service. While the original restaurant offers a sit-down dining experience, the Grand Central location is specifically designed for the fast-paced life of New Yorkers, providing a grab-and-go solution without compromising on flavor or quality.
The essence of Melba's is rooted in the passion of its founder, Melba Wilson, a James Beard-nominated chef and Harlem native who believes in feeding people's souls as much as their stomachs. Her commitment to consistency is a hallmark of the brand; as she says, "I don't care which location you're at—if you're here in Grand Central Terminal... all of our chicken is fried in the same seasoning." This dedication ensures that the signature flavors, like her famous fried chicken that "beat Bobby Flay," are just as good in a quick-service setting as they are at the flagship.
The menu at the Grand Central location is a curated selection of the restaurant's greatest hits, adapted for a fast-paced environment. It features classic comfort food staples that are perfect for a satisfying meal on the go, whether you’re rushing to catch a train or heading back to your office. This focus on a streamlined, high-quality menu is what allows Melba's to maintain its reputation for excellence, even in such a busy location.
More than just a place to eat, Melba's is an experience. The staff, known for their "amazing, enthusiastic" service, embodies the brand's philosophy that "you may go one time for the food, but you come back if you get great service." This commitment to kindness and hospitality shines through, even in a quick-service setting. For a taste of genuine Harlem soul food and a dose of friendly service, Melba's at Grand Central is a must-try for locals and visitors alike. It's a true "slice of Harlem" conveniently located in one of New York's most iconic landmarks, bringing a touch of home and culture to the city's main transit hub.
Melba's Grand Central Terminal is located at 89 E 42nd St, New York, NY 10017, USA. It is situated within the bustling Dining Concourse on the lower level of Grand Central Terminal, making it a highly accessible destination for a diverse crowd. The restaurant can be found between well-known spots like Magnolia Bakery and Shake Shack, which makes it easy to locate once you are in the food court area.
The location within Grand Central is one of its biggest advantages. The terminal is a major transportation hub, serving millions of people daily via multiple subway lines (4, 5, 6, 7, and S) and the Metro-North Railroad. This connectivity means that getting to Melba's is incredibly simple from virtually any part of the city or surrounding suburbs. The terminal is also fully equipped with wheelchair-accessible entrances, restrooms, and elevators, ensuring that the restaurant is easily reachable for all diners.
For those who are in a hurry, the location is a perfect spot for a quick bite before boarding a train or for a satisfying lunch to bring back to the office. The restaurant’s strategic placement within the terminal caters directly to the commuter demographic, offering a flavorful and convenient alternative to other fast-food options. The atmosphere of the Dining Concourse is lively and fast-paced, which complements the quick-service nature of Melba's. This combination of a central location and an efficient service model makes it a practical and appealing choice for anyone on the go in Midtown Manhattan.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Johnny was such an amazing, enthusiastic employee who exemplified customer service. One of my son’s ordered the chicken and waffle meal. My other son ordered the chicken tenders meal. I ordered the catfish plate. Were stuffed because we ate every bite of our delicious meals! This is a rarity since we are very finicky eaters. If you want the best customer service and meals, I highly recommend Melba’s! Thank you!
June 01 · Kathleen WoodOkay, the service here was wonderful. The young lady that took care of me was really nice because I was indecisive on what I wanted to eat and she was patient with me. Quick service is always great; however, there needs to be a balance with the level of salt and sugar. The Mac was great but elevated in salt. The fried chicken was most crunch and not much chicken. It was disappointing.
July 01 · pamela valdezI used to live around the corner from the original Melba's, which along with Charles Pan Fried, Sweet Chick, and Pecking House, is certainly among the elite New York fried chicken establishments.Melba's offers up truly delicious southern classics, and this outpost features the best of their sandwiches, sides, and comfort plates. I ordered the classic and spicy chicken sandwiches, served on potato rolls with optional pickles and extra sauce. Several factors make a great fried chicken, among them juiciness, flavor of both the meat and the breading, and the crisp crunchiness of the fried coating. Both handhelds came out quickly, and the chicken was hot, juicy, and fried to crispy perfection. On my first bite, soft potato bun paired with the shatter of fried crust, balanced with juicy chicken, pickle, delicious house sauce, and hot honey. Melba's nails it.Melba's sandwiches are perfect for the commute, too. While delicious and filling, they aren't messy. Good service means you're armed with a clamshell for the lap, not just a paper bag to balance while eating on the train. The Melba's stall is a much-needed addition to the Grand Central Terminal food hall, bringing a Harlem icon to a market that is home to takeaway concepts from other New York favorites including crave-worthy East Village borscht and pierogi purveyor Veselka and local staple Shake Shack.Excellent and well worth it. Five stars.
May 24 · Tys SweeneyI've been to this place a few times. After the second time the chicken breast was smaller (they cut it in half). I asked for a side thigh and it was the worst. They left off a piece of chicken and I tried sending an email to let me them but no response which I expected! I've been to Grand Central and their little location is always empty. I wonder why!!! OH WELL
August 06 · Felice BarrowMy first time at Melba’s , I was so excited to try it for the first time, i’ve heard so much about her Resturant and also watch her Appearance on the Food network….Where do I start? I ordered the catfish Meal It came with two sides And a drink, My sides were macaroni and cheese and sweet potato fries, I asked in advance if the food would be fresh because it was on the later side, he assured me that the food was fresh, and the catfish was made to order.I asked if I could taste the candy yams and the macaroni and cheese because I don’t play about my food if it’s not good I’m not gonna order….The candy yams were diabetes, sweets when I tell you, it had so much sugar in it, The macaroni and cheese tasted OKThey had lemonade and ice tea , I ordered the lemonade , He assured me that it was sweet. I asked him how sweet because I don’t like sweet, so I asked him if he can mix the iced tea with the lemonade to kind of Diluted itThat didn’t help it was too sweet to the point where I couldn’t drink it..At this point, I was skeptical about my decision, but it was already too late. I paid my $17 dollars and changeI’m waiting for my order..Let me say the guy that took my order. I didn’t get his name, but he was so nice.Got my order walked to wait for my train (lirr)The sweet potato fries were definitely sitting for a while ,They were all clump together , The catfish looks good, but it was overly salted the macaroni and cheese Also had a nice flavor to it, but it was Way too salty for my liking, I definitely ate a couple bites, but after a while, I couldn’t eat it, Very disappointed in my first experience at Melba’s I don’t think I’ll be going back… 3 stars I’m a foodie so I’m not trying to be harsh. I love supporting Women own Businesses, blacked owned Business , but I work very hard for my money and I love to eat and enjoy my meal Maybe it was a bad day. I’m not sure, but it was not good.
