★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1It's a small-plates type place: the portions are quite small but the pricing is good. You definitely have to order more than one dish.I've been looking for a solid tuna steak since I came back from Italy and I finally found it here unintentionally. The steak skewer was juicy and flavorful. Cooked perfectly.I would come back but I wish it was open till 10.
July 17 · Michael RahmaniIt is a good day when I have 15 minutes or an hour to stop by and have a quick lunch at Messy.Messy is a warm and inviting space that punches way above its weight. The staff is so friendly and helpful. Each time I visit I like to try something new and for the last few visits I haven’t been able to stay away from the tuna sandwich - I was told the tuna was sourced from Greenpoint Fish.Nevertheless, the kebab sandwich, pork sandwich, addictive cabbage, and various skewers have all been so delicious.I also love being able to have a sandwich and a side of cabbage and get right back into work without feeling lethargic. The portion sizes are great and the prices are even better.Go to Messy. If you’re lucky to secure the outside table - you’re in for a wonderful moment.
May 24 · Tim HolyThe team behind Lighthouse (which I’ve also heard great things about) opened this casual Mediterranean spot a couple months ago and I’d been meaning to check it outWow, it was SO good, way better than I even expected based on the unassuming, hole in the wall vibes on Sullivan StreetThe chicken and steak sandwiches were both excellent: perfectly cooked meat (especially the chicken which was super juicy) and the other ingredients (salad, amba, tahini) all added a lot to the sandwiches. They also layer the ingredients in the pita so that you get a bit of everything in each bite which I thought was a pretty pro move. They’re not the biggest sandwiches but they pack a punch and at $11 each are a great deal. Beware that — as the name implies — they are a bit messy to eat.I also got a side of the “addictive cabbage” which comes in the bowls and I had high hopes for based on some reviews I read but I thought it was just alright (basically just lightly cooked, peppery cabbage)Pro tip: get a side of chipotle mayo, it’s better than average and really flavorful, perfect to add a bit to the sandwichesThe place is small but cute with a few seats both inside and outside, and Washington Square Park is only two blocks away if you wanna go have a little picnic like I did. The staff was also super friendly and helpful.Overall loved this spot and will definitely be back for lunch or a quick dinner soon!
July 06 · Jonathan Zingerwalked by this place in Soho ordered the chicken skewer platter. It came with rice, salad sauce, and one chicken skewer, which I didn’t think was enough so I ordered extra chicken. It was really good. super tasty salad, rice, cabbage, and hot pepper.
July 07 · Elad SchorI had high hopes, but the skewers were really disappointing. They were extremely watery, likely because the salad was served on the same plate—everything just blended into a soggy mess. The flavors didn’t stand out, and the texture suffered badly. On the plus side, the staff was friendly and welcoming, which I appreciated. The location is quite small—cozy, but also a bit cramped.Overall, not the worst experience, but the food quality needs improvement. I wouldn’t return for the skewers.
