Old Homestead Steakhouse Introduce
When it comes to the iconic New York City dining scene, few places hold the same gravitas and history as Old Homestead Steakhouse. A true institution, this restaurant has been serving the finest steaks since 1868, making it not only the oldest continuously operating steakhouse in the city but also one of the oldest in the entire country. Nestled in what was once the heart of the Meatpacking District, Old Homestead is more than just a place to eat; it is a destination where history and culinary excellence converge. From its cozy, historic atmosphere to its perfectly aged cuts of meat, every detail is designed to transport you to an era of classic luxury and timeless taste.
The philosophy of Old Homestead Steakhouse is rooted in tradition and unwavering quality. The restaurant’s owners, the Sherry family, have been upholding this legacy for generations, hand-selecting all the beef and dry-aging it on-premise. This commitment ensures that every steak is of the highest caliber, a fact that has made them a favorite among locals, tourists, and even U.S. presidents throughout history. While the city has changed around it, Old Homestead remains steadfast in its dedication to a simple, powerful formula: the finest prime beef, exceptional service, and a classic, elegant setting. The atmosphere is best described as a blend of historic charm, romance, and upscale comfort, making it a perfect spot for a special occasion or a truly memorable dinner.
Old Homestead Steakhouse is located at 56 9th Ave, New York, NY 10011, USA. Its prime location in the Meatpacking District is both a nod to its roots and a testament to its enduring relevance. The restaurant is easily accessible by public transportation. The A, C, E, and L subway lines all have stops at the 14th Street and 8th Avenue station, which is just a short walk from the steakhouse. The L train's 14th Street station also provides easy access from Brooklyn and other parts of Manhattan. For those traveling by car, there are paid street parking and nearby parking lots available, offering convenience for out-of-town guests or those who prefer to drive. While the restaurant itself is noted for having a free parking lot, it's also worth noting the presence of many paid parking garages and lots in the surrounding area. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The food isn't expensive since and it's also not cheap. It's reasonably priced and you'll get your money worth. Gave service a four star because the waitress could have been more attentive. Overall good experience.
August 19 · Christian ChicaSteaks and chocolate cake was one of the best meals I’ve had in the city. Henry, our server, was a real treat. Made the entire experience worth coming back.
August 23 · Calen RiggsHenry was our server. He was the best server we have had in a long time. He made us feel welcomed and was very attentive to our needs. Henry reccomended the crab cake, which he said, “is the best in the City,” and now I agree. Unlike many other crab cakes these were made with large chunks of crab and were perfectly crisped on the outside. My wife and I both agree it was delicious! We also had the porterhouse for two and the crab-stuffed mushrooms. The mushrooms were very good, but outshone by the crab cake. You might want to get two crab cakes, if you have two or more people. The porterhouse was very good and we ate every bit. We also had mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. They are both delicious, but we didn’t have enough room in our stomachs for all them, including the Caesar salad.
June 20 · Missions MultiplierThe best steak I have EVER had. My girlfriend and I went for our anniversary and we were met with wonderful service, stellar appetizers and like I said- the best steak I’ve ever had in my life. We shared the 40 day dry aged porterhouse for 2. Worth every penny.
April 01 · Liam HeylI’ve been here many times. The kobe burger is definitely the star of the show. The mashed potatoes as well. The bacon wrapped fillet was four stars. The season potatoes that come with it, not the best. Also, note that the ginger ale that they have there is literally made with extra ginger in it. It’s not Schweppes. Make sure you get that burger. It is worth the money.
