Over The Counter Reviews
We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. We got a cup of chicken and wild rice soup, I got a pulled pork sandwich with fries, and my partner got an Italian chicken sandwich with fries. When the food came to the table both were missing the fries, so the waitress brought back two baskets of waffle fries and left. We both had high hopes for this place as most of the reviews were very positive; however, the food we got was not very good and mostly went uneaten. The soup was not hot, it was lukewarm at best. The bbq was room temperature and did not have much meat, the sauce on the side was cold like it came straight from the refrigerator. The bbq sandwich was mostly two large onion rings. The chicken sandwich was mostly lettuce and tomato. The service was pretty bad as well. We were mostly ignored, our drinks were left empty and only refilled once after the group of employees saw us looking at them. These employees were too busy eating, talking, laughing and playing on their cell phones to attend to the customers. The location was not busy during this time, there were the two of us, a gentleman sitting at the bar, a couple on the patio. The group of people sitting at the end of the bar shown in the photos were the staff and that was where they remained the entire time we were there. There was no reason for the service to have been this bad and very disappointing. Based on this experience I would not recommend this place.
Aug 02, 2025 · Alex AlfordOver the Counter is a great spot for brunch. The atmosphere is lively, the restaurant is clean and the staff is helpful. It is always busy when I come in. Came here on a busy Sunday morning, and I ordered the OTC breakfast with a Bloody Mary. Delicious. I have also had the burger here. Another great choice. It can be difficult to find parking in the main lot if it's crowded, but there's plenty other places to park around the restaurant on side streets. Thanks!
Feb 23, 2025 · Xavier CaseyCool place! It's a bit of a retro hip diner vibe. We had the veggie appetizer, which was really good with a lighter almost a tempura like texture, which I really enjoyed. They have mostly sandwiches, wings and salads. I had the Cobb salad with french onion soup. The salad was was crisp and cold and the ranch was homemade and really good. The toppings were fresh although fairly skimpy for a Cobb salad. The french onion soup was the star. It was savory, a touch sweet, a bit tangy, had abundant nicely caramelized onions topped with a nice crusty layer of cheese and crouton. I also tried the mac and cheese and it was creamy and the noodles were perfectly cooked. It has more of a Velveeta style cheese sauce which isn't my favorite, but I would absolutely eat it again. The service was good and was clean and very reasonablely priced. I look forward to going back to see what else is good.
Nov 04, 2024 · Perro MiramasAt brunch, my corned beef hash tasted only of salt. The over-easy egg whites were runny. The “bed of potatoes” looked like the frozen sliced kind. The “toast” wasn’t toasted.I don’t know how you make an over-easy egg with runny whites. When I make eggs at home, I flip the egg, and within a couple of seconds the whites are no longer runny. Some of Over the Counter’s whites looked like snot. The other folks at my table had nice looking meals. I didn’t stick around long enough to find out if they liked them.Between the undercooked food, the hard rock music at 10 a.m., and the too-cold air conditioning, I sent back my meal, said goodbye to the group and popped gum into my mouth to get rid of the taste of salt.I was with a large group, and the server said they were short a cook, so maybe the food is normally better. Portions are large.
Jul 20, 2025 · Arlene ArmstrongFirst off, let me say our server was great. She was friendly, helpful, and came to check on us frequently. So in that sense, the service was as great as she could make it. Unfortunately, the food took forever -- nearly an hour for two fish sandwiches. There was a party of 12 present that apparently held up the food for the rest of the restaurant, but tables were at less than half capacity, so the one large party should not have backed up the kitchen that much.I'd been here before a few years back and remembered it having a more cute retro diner vibe with brighter lighting. Since then, it seems to have undergone more of a "bar" (sports/dive?) rebrand that I don't care for. Music was entirely too loud and made conversation difficult, which became very apparent with the long wait.We tried the Amaretto & Grand Marnier cocktail and that was great. All of their cocktails sounded good.As for the fish & chips sandwich, it comes with one piece of cod that only fills half the bun, with the rest filled in with waffle fries. It comes with a side of crisps (potato chips, not the fry-chips you're expecting), but this can be substituted for more waffle fries, which I suggest doing. You get some cole slaw, tartar sauce, and a pickle spear, but it doesn't come with any lettuce, tomato, etc. (I should've asked for some, but I was so hungry from waiting that I just did without.) Everything was too salty and my mouth still tastes like salt hours later. I'd had the same item when I visited some years ago and remembered it being one of the best fish sandwiches I'd had -- this wasn't it.I don't know if they've since changed management or something. If you're in the area and want to swing by for a cocktail or maybe a light brunch, it might be worth a visit. For dinner, I'd give it a pass.
