Papaya King’s legacy and unique offerings are its primary features and highlights. It is a historic establishment, and this sense of history gives it a special charm that newer restaurants simply cannot replicate. The fact that it’s still serving the same classic combination of hot dogs and tropical drinks that it did decades ago is a testament to its timeless appeal. The food itself is a major highlight. The hot dogs are known for their great flavor and satisfying "snap," a crucial quality for a good frankfurter. The menu is simple but effective, offering classics and a variety of specialty dogs with toppings like pastrami, chili, and coleslaw. The curly fries, tater tots, and other sides are also key components of the experience. The tropical drinks—Papaya, Mango, Banana, Pina Colada, and Coconut—are a defining feature. They are known for being thick and flavorful, providing a refreshing contrast to the savory hot dogs. While a customer review mentioned a negative experience with the papaya drink's flavor, another praised their banana daiquiri, highlighting that the drinks can be a matter of personal preference but are a central part of the overall experience. The casual, historic atmosphere adds to the charm, attracting both college students and tourists who are drawn to its authentic New York vibe. It’s a place that’s often talked about in the same breath as other NYC food legends, and its ability to serve a high volume of customers with speed and efficiency is a highlight in itself. The presence of options like a full menu of specialty dogs and a variety of sides shows that while they focus on the classics, they are also willing to offer new and interesting items to keep the menu fresh.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I haven’t been in years but I’m glad they are back. The new location is definitely cleaner, more efficient but also lost a bit of its charm from the old days. Thankfully the service is still great and the dogs are still yummy. The banana daiquiri is still my go to drink when visiting. I highly recommend!
August 19 · john MedelMeh - skip it and head south for more eats and sweets. The mustard was the best part of our hot dogs. Even the sauerkraut lacking in flavor and the papaya drink was colored and sweetened water completely lacking papaya flavor. We couldn’t drink it. Servers surely. We did enjoy standing and eating at one of the four tables.
July 14 · Linda BaileyAnyplace in NYC that hides the total cost in the register is a scam!$10 for one small hot dog and a 16oz drink. You can't see the total, They don't tell you the total they just ask you to tap. I had to also ask for my receipt...Apparently even if you take 2 dogs and drink deal for $10 it doesn't include saurkraut ...so it's like $12...yes it's $5 for one hotdog!!....they know their prices are high because they are ashamed to show you the total. You can only scam someone once.too many other better places like shake shack for same price.
July 01 · roodie dA little gem with lots of flavour! The papaya drink I had was so refreshing, and complimented the hot dogs so well. The prices were fair and I really enjoyed my classic hotdog and chili combo i tasted from my friend. There were no seats at the restaurant, but you could stand and eat at one of a handful of tall tables.
August 21 · Daniel BarberThey posted outside 2 hotdogs and a drink for $9.99 but inside apparently I was charged $11.99 plus tax, and when I asked why he said because I asked for the relish and the picture doesn’t show relish which is not included in the deal. Shocking. Scam. Shame on you. Also no screen to show the total before paying and the hotdogs were over cooked.
