★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I didn’t want to give Salt Hank’s five stars but I had to. I’ll get it out of the way: yes, $45 for a sandwich, fries and drink is absurd, even for NYC standards. But then the food comes: a flavor bomb of incredibly high quality prime rib, perfectly caramelized onions, fresh baguette, and fatty provolone cheese. Combine with matchstick fries and their homemade limeade and you have a guaranteed Ratatouille moment. Staff was kind as could be, space is comfy and no frills, Salt Hank was there and doing hard work like everyone else. Highly recommend on a fall day.
August 21 · Jack BekosCame for the soft opening, at the time, the only sandwich on offer was the French dip. The sandwich was *phenomenal* and I’m not even a big French dip guy. Everything from the baguette to the Au Jus was outstanding. Definitely recommend splitting a sandwich. With fries and a drink it came out to $38. Quality is clearly high but hopefully they’ll have some lower priced offerings down the line. The fries were a little unusual on their own but made a great sandwich topping, and maybe that was their intended purpose. Some little touches I appreciated were the DIY takeaway station and the fact that they limited the number of customers inside so it never felt overly crowded or chaotic. And it’s always great to go to a place that actually makes you feel welcome.Looking forward to coming back!
June 22 · Owen HI loved it. The ribeye was tender, the onions were sweet, the bread was crunchy and soft, the horseradish aioli was strong and tasty, the fries were good. The limeade was nice, not too tarty and not too sweet. Made great friends in the line.
August 15 · Naldo SalgadoFor all the whiny peasants complaining about a $45 sandwich, fries, and limeade… I feel you. I, too, am broke, and that price does indeed not slap. But such is the toll of a trendy mangia moment in Manhattan these days. Still, the sandwich melted in my mouth almost as fast as my initial regrets. The jus, fries, and limeade in concert went down like a salve and quieted my inner accountant. No post-munch-clarity here - it was worth the price of admission. The space is simple and old-school, the staff upbeat and inviting. If you can stomach the cost (and the Instagram-induced line), Salt Hank delivers.
August 21 · Aaron StromThey’re just doing one thing, and doing it extremely well: the French dip. It starts with a French baguette bun that stays crispy on the outside, roasted garlic, shaved prime rib, caramel, onions, and provolone cheese. Best one in NYC by far. It’s $35 for the sandwich, which I felt was fair, given the quality of the ingredients and meat
