Shabushabu Mayumon Introduce
In a city known for its diverse and innovative dining scene, Shabushabu Mayumon offers a truly distinct and memorable experience. This Japanese restaurant specializes in shabu-shabu, but with a unique twist: it's served omakase-style. For New Yorkers familiar with traditional hot pot, this is an exciting departure. Instead of you cooking your own meal, the chef prepares each course for you, ensuring every delicate slice of meat is cooked to perfection and served at its peak. The name of the dish, "shabu-shabu," is an onomatopoeia for the "swish-swish" sound the meat makes as it's briefly cooked in the simmering broth. At Mayumon, this simple process is elevated to an art form, making it a perfect destination for a special occasion or an unforgettable culinary adventure.
The atmosphere at Shabushabu Mayumon is both cozy and trendy, creating a beautifully intimate setting. It's a place designed for a focused dining experience, where the attention to detail from the staff and the quality of the ingredients take center stage. The restaurant is particularly popular for dinner and solo dining, as its counter-style seating allows for a close-up view of the chefs at work. This immersive format creates a connection between the diner and the chef, making the meal not just about the food, but about the process and presentation. It’s a quiet confidence in its craft that makes this place so special.

## What is Worth Choosing
When you visit Shabushabu Mayumon, the clear choice is the **shabu-shabu omakase course**. This is the core offering and what makes the restaurant so special. The tasting menu, which can include up to 18 courses, is a journey through different cuts of high-quality meats, including both A5 Wagyu and premium pork belly. The most celebrated element of the experience is the meat itself. The **A5 Wagyu** is consistently described by diners as "truly melt in your mouth," a testament to its exceptional quality. The **Washugyu**, a crossbreed of Japanese Tajima beef and Black Angus, is another highlight, praised for its elegant fat and subtle sweetness.
Beyond the meat, the experience is enhanced by the careful selection of beverages. The **sake pairings** are particularly worth choosing, as they are specifically selected to complement the richness of the wagyu and pork. Customers have noted that the sakes pair "well with the heavy meat." For a refreshing start, the **yuzu sake** and **umeshu** are excellent choices.
While the service is quick, it is also highly personal and attentive. This is an experience where you can sit back and trust the chef to deliver each course at the perfect time and temperature. It's an ideal choice for someone who wants to try a different kind of hot pot, or who simply appreciates top-tier ingredients and a unique dining format. It may be a bit of a splurge, but for a memorable evening of high-quality Japanese cuisine in an intimate and trendy setting, Shabushabu Mayumon is a fantastic choice in New York City.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 118 courses - interesting experience as it feels like you are eating hot pot but in a more fancy way hahaa - perfect for the rainy/cold days. The meat truly melts in your mouth. They serve wagyu and pork belly. The only thing I didn’t like was the chicken rice (it’s quite dry and also not warm). Overall interesting experience. Pricing is quite high for the value imo.
May 28 · Lilly NguyenHad a very nice dinner here in an intimate and beautiful setting! It was my first time trying shabu omakase; they cooked the meat in front of us and placed each piece on our plate like sushi omakase. While the cooking is the fun part of shabu shabu and I would’ve liked to control the degree to which the meat was cooked (it wasn’t equal and I kept receiving the more raw piece), it was also pleasant to watch. The pace was a bit too fast for me, because we were the only party in the restaurant. It would’ve been better had they paced it like a full house instead of cooking the next as soon as the previous piece was gone from the plate. (I just kept half a piece on my plate so we wouldn’t get the next one so quickly.)We got yuzu sake and umeshu in the beginning as refreshments, then got sake for the course which paired well with the heavy meat. The A5 wagyu truly melted in my mouth, but I personally preferred the wagyu after the first bite bc it was less fatty. The whole course might be a bit too much of meat after meat, especially if you’re a smaller person (I couldn’t eat any more after 5-6 slices). Better pacing might have helped with this, or maybe it’s just a lot.At any rate I was happy by the end of the night and it was quite memorable. Just make sure you can stomach everything or bring someone who can take their portion as well as yours.
July 24 · L.Excellent shabushabu experience, you can enjoy fresh meat with carefully selected ingredients and sauce. Each piece is a new taste. I also like the Sawara, it is fried but not greasy.
March 30 · Yifan WeiDeliciousThe appetizers and dessert were ok, but the star of the meal is the shabu shabu and they’re generous delicious bites that switch up the sauces to keep it fresh each course. We were out by 7, and it was quick and efficient service, which I appreciated too!Reservations were easy to make - 3 seatings noon, 530, and 7pm(I think). We were running late and showed up ten minutes late to a 530 reservation on a Tuesday but the staff was super chill about it and turns out it was just us and one other guy.
May 13 · Grace ParkCame here on a rainy Saturday and had a fantastic lunch (same menu and pricing as dinner service). Every bite is distinct and thoughtfully crafted. Cant wait to come back!
