★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I don’t usually eat at vegan restaurants but the food and drink I had here were pretty tasty! The Thai iced tea was delicious! Was surprised how flavorful the food was and the dishes we ordered had the right amount of spice to them. The ambiance was really nice and the music was great. The staff were friendly and fast with everything. Great place for a quick meal and relaxing atmosphere!
March 20 · Jenny WFive stars based on just this establishment’s commitment to animal rights alone. It’s one thing to operate a plant-based restaurant, it’s another to advocate for the liberation of animals AND provide diners with tasty Szechuan delectations. The atmosphere is great: the place has it all, cute decor, throwback 00’s/10’s music on the sound system, cozy dining areas & a very large/inviting cafe side of the LARGE space that is Spicy Moon.We had the scallion pancakes & Buffalo wings as appetizers… The wings were a high point for the meal, not necessarily Szechuan, but on target for the menu & did not disappoint. For entrees we had the fried rice & general tso’s “chicken.” The entrees were dynamite, though we had ordered our fried rice with vegan beef & there were no noticeable protein bits in the mix.As an aside, as much as I love Toast & the handheld devices used by waiting staff for higher volume establishments, I do not care for them when receiving the check. If I’m spending 90 minutes at dinner & $120+ with tip, I’d like to review an itemized receipt & make a decision on tip a little slower than having to tap a 20% (or for me always higher) while the device is held by waitstaff. It’s a small issue but one I felt I’d leave in my review. Nonetheless, I will be back to Spicy Moon!!! 🌱🌱🌱
August 01 · Edward Gieda IIIWe had high expectations after reading that Spicy Moon was recently ranked apparently the third greatest Chinese restaurant in America. Now we know why!We ordered about 15 different dishes and drinks and honestly nothing fell short of WOW. Make sure you start with the crispy eggplant and taro fries which are MAGIC! So many other must-haves including vegetable fried rice with tender vegan meat that's packed with flavor. Generous portions too!The Spicy Moon beverages are the first we've found that are actually creative concoctions and not just glorified juice. The mango moon and Thai iced tea were just jaw-dropping.There was also an exuberant fundraiser for a dog rescue group, that featured actual adorable dogs on site as well as performance art that brought a smile to our faces. All the servers are chill and professional. The prices are refreshingly reasonable for NYC.And otherwise the atmosphere is vibrant with artwork and uplifting color.Seems to us Spicy Moon is a contender for the number ONE Chinese restaurant in America!🥇
April 03 · marni ugarI heard about this place on social media and it did not disappoint. Everything we ate was incredibly flavorful. The dan dan noodles were the all time favorite at the table. The general tso’s tofu was also perfect - not at all too sweet. Be prepared though many things are spicy, but you can ask your server for lower levels of spice. If you’re into spicy food though, this place is highly recommended! Will definitely be back.
May 06 · Sebastian MorrisSpicy Moon - Bowery exceeded expectations. I went a few weeks ago with some friends and we’re all still talking about it. I’m not vegan (though I do love vegan food) and will attest that this place is perfect for *anyone* that loves good food, not just vegans. Spicy Moon serves excellent food, period. The food: AMAZING and served family style (so great for groups). From the vegan calamari and crabless rangoons apps to the double cooked mushrooms and Dan Dan noodle bigger plates—everything was excellent and it is unbelievable that everything is VEGAN.The drinks: creative and delish. I asked our server for a surprise and he did a great job pairing drinks with my palate. There was one refreshing gin and cucumber that foamed up as if it had an egg white in it—but of course it didn’t—incredible. The atmosphere: As you can see from the lighting in the pic, the ambiance is a vibe. The music and the purple and pink lighting throughout gives lounge/club, but you can still actually have a conversation. The candles on the table add a nice cozy touch that’s perfect for bonding with friends or a romantic date night. The service: Excellent—the staff consistently checked in with us, came ready with recommendations for the group, and even brought our table over shooters from the bar.100% will be going back. Often.
