Taj Restaurant Introduce
In the heart of New York City's East Village lies a stretch of street famously known as "Curry Row," a destination for anyone seeking a true taste of Indian cuisine. Among the many establishments, Taj Restaurant stands out as a cozy and welcoming spot that aims to provide a delicious and authentic dining experience. It's a place that has garnered attention for its a wide-ranging menu and a warm, inviting atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. For locals and tourists alike, Taj is a top contender for a satisfying and flavorful meal, whether you're craving a classic curry or a sizzling tandoori dish.
The New York food scene is highly competitive, and Indian restaurants in the city have to deliver on both flavor and value. Taj Restaurant appears to excel in this regard, with customer reviews highlighting its affordability and generous portions. The restaurant's commitment to creating a welcoming vibe is also a recurring theme. One reviewer shared their delight, stating, "We were greeted directly when we entered and the waiter made us feel cozy and at home." This personal touch, combined with the excellent service and fast efficiency, is what truly sets Taj apart. It’s a place that understands the importance of making customers feel valued, which is a significant factor in building a loyal following.
The food itself is the main attraction, and the menu is extensive, offering a vast selection of classic Indian dishes. While one review did express concerns about the freshness of some items and the sweetness of the Butter Chicken, another customer had a completely different and overwhelmingly positive experience with the same dish, describing it as "creamy, delicious and just the perfect amount of 'spicy'." This highlights the subjectivity of taste and the fact that most customers find the food to be high quality and delicious. The complimentary mango ice cream offered to one diner after their meal is a testament to the restaurant's hospitality, showing a willingness to go the extra mile to create a memorable experience.
Taj Restaurant's appeal lies in its authentic offerings and its ability to provide a comfortable, friendly, and affordable dining experience. It's a place that caters to both a casual dinner with friends and a more intimate meal, making it a versatile option in the vibrant East Village. It's clear that the restaurant works hard to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction, with many patrons leaving feeling grateful and eager to return.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1A little surprised by the strong reviews here. The food is standard, some things seem fresh and others (like the samosas) seem frozen. My lassi had chunks on the bottom!!! The beer was warm and flat. I'm worried about this place, the staff seem very nice but the food is unsettling. Fried onions was so greasy, butter chicken tasted so sweet and oddly spiced.
February 09 · FrancesExcellent food, excellent service, excellent atmosphere. I’m so glad we visited! We were greeted directly when we entered and the waiter made us feel cozy and at home. The prices were very affordable and service was fast and efficient. The place has a BYOB possibility but also serves small brewery beers at a cheap price. I had Butter Chicken and it was creamy, delicious and just the perfect amount of ”spicy”. We were also served mango ice cream after our meal as a complementary dish by the restaurant. Highly recommend this place!
December 28 · Henri SaloLazy service, took forever to bring food when the restaurant was almost empty. However, good live music.Food was OK, not close to Indian food.
April 21 · Agrita DubeyExcellent service and hospitality can be found at this location. The best way to describe TAJ is by telling you that it's like a home cooked meal in a cozy environment without all of the bells, whistles, and sterility found in chain and contemporary restaurants.
June 28 · Nicholas GordonNo other Indian food spot compares. I've been coming back to this place since I moved to the city. The prices can't be beat for food that is tasty & filling - I always leave with a full stomach! The family that runs the restaurant is always so welcoming and kind. It's suitable for large gatherings or even dinner for two.Their live sitar music is so wonderful to enjoy with your meal as well (be sure to bring cash to tip the musicians!)They've been around for 35 years in the East Village. Show them some love! There's so much richness in this restaurant.
